Matara is pronounced as Maaaa-tha-ra emphasize Maaa. If you see someone drinking from a glass bottle it does not necessarily mean they are drinking booze, people fill empty bottles with water to drink. I dont think people actually now fish from stilts they just pretend and ask tourist for money to photograph them!!
