As sri lankan we always tend to use tap water for drinking as it is certified and tested by water board in sri lanka
This is good to know! :) We just shared what our accommodations told us. Maybe they were just trying to be safe. We always prefer tap water!
Tap is absolutely fine. Aussie here who drank it the whole time and its just same as home water #haushusbands
Umm… as a Sri Lankan who lived in Sri Lanka for decades I never drank tap water, neither did my friends. Either boil first and then refrigerate, or use a water cooler.
@@waysoftheworld_ I have always water filter with me. It is very compact and it is able to filter all dirt and bacteria. It is not able to filter viruses but these are not easy to get from water they are able to live only with live host and without they will die very soon. I was drinking even from puddle and few times from very awful water source in nature in emergency. You can check sawyer water filter for example and you don't care anymore if tap water is drinkable or not :)
Foreigners tend to get more stomachaches and allergies than Sri Lankans.
There is a organization in Sri Lanka called Embark and they are helping abandoned and stray dogs find new and loving homes . They cant help all of them but embark is doing Wonderful and kind things to help pups in need😊

5:55 Electronic Travel Authorization (E-Visa for Sri Lanka)
I went to Sri Lanka, February 2023. When I appied for the e-visa, the first option was for 30 days. Natural tendency is to go for it because that is exactly what you want. But as you mentioned, for some reason if you want to stay a couple more days you have to pay extra and extend visa.
If you scroll down visa options you will find another one for *180 days with double entry* for the same visa fee. This is what I got . I stayed there for only 4 weeks though.

I too have fallen in love with sri Lanka and its people ( I've been six times) Your video was so infomativ and produced in such a wayit covered everything a new visitor could want. The only thing missing wre the trains. I cannot prais this way of travel too much. Better views than by car. Ealier this year I hiked the last 40 miles up to Ella, just booking rooms along the way. so easy nowadays. to think 30 years ago, all I had was a guide book. No phones/internet.and no language. I can mime in any language.😉

Hi! What a lovely and informative video! As a Sri Lankan, I'll be sharing this w my friends who plan to visit firm abroad! A couple of corrections, credit/debit cards are absolutely accepted in many parts of the country (mostly at commercial vendors). Most people in Colombo primarily use a credit card. But there could be some limitations where only local bank cards are accepted due to visa/master fees. Amex is not accepted. Additionally, Sri Lankan drinking water is safe to drink for short periods of time. Most locals boil tap water and cool it before drinking or they use a water filter. It is not dangerous to drink it neither will it cause any stomach issues. However, it is not recommended to drink it directly out of the tap more than a few times. :) Re Colombo, totally agree. As someone born and raised in the city, I entirely love it. But I can understand it's a complex jungle for someone visiting from outside. Highly rec following some local influencers from the city so you know what's good and bad. :)

Thank You for your final update regarding your Sri Lanka. Next time when you visit Sri Lanka, try and go to North East and Eastern Sri Lanka. Cities like Trincomalee and Batticaloa which have great beaches and lots of places to see.

we always used Booking, but Agoda works well in SL, too.
Great video! Just a heads up.. Google will give the Indian Tamil translation which is different than Sri Lankan Tamil. That’s why the locals were looking at y’all like that lol. I have made the same mistake myself 🥴

Yes I have to agree with you the suffering of street dogs are unbearable, very heart breaking. Few westerners ran shelters for them few years ago and I do not know what happened to them. Same goes to the elephants. Believe me or not they are the largest land animals / mammals on anywhere on earth and that little island is blessed with them. I could say the only island to have elephants is Sri Lanka. They live in large herds (families in our terms / sense) and need large areas to roam, not in backyards or temples chained up, for cultural reasons. Literally it broke my heart as an animal lover seeing the plight of them. I also do not support so called elephant orphanages, it is a sham. They belongs to the nature, their home, to their large extended families. Thanks for speaking for the innocent voiceless, the animals. I can assure you there would have been at least a dog following you as your friend, companion, where not a single human to be seen. Few times it happened to me, and I literally cried when I had to part with them. They never asked anything but they were my/our *safest* friends who walked with us and curled up almost touching up wherever we sat down, and got up and walked with us. They would have done it to eternity, without anything in return.

July in the southwest is monsoon season, so there will def be higher chances of rain, especially earlier in the month. Northeast beaches around Trincomalee will have the best chance for dry weather. If you are staying for an entire month, maybe you can keep some of your dates flexible and visit both, depending on the forecast.... they are far from each other, but you can always do a short visit to one of the central national parks 🐘
