Hey, I liked it.. was from the ground up and very informative and creative. I've learned however, when researching something like this and never having done it, to look at multiple sources to combine the wisdom of several sources. it's always possible for someone to forget something.. the internet is a wonderful thing! thanks for the great vid.

I usually use web taping on the seams of the cement board in case of movement.

i was wondering the same thing. i can see reasoning for not doing it and doing it. i got a shower to set up monday so trying to decide. i usually dont use a vapor barrier though. usually sure that nothing will get by the cement board and if it does any small amt will evaporate instead of turning to mold if the plastic was there. havent had a shower fail yet this way. but i always wanna give my clients the best so not sure wat to do.

@BillyJBitch Haha; that is definitely the FCP "Media Offline" screen. Though, had they edited it in Avid, they probably wouldn't have lost track of their media to begin with.

what are you talking about. cement board/ denshield do repel water and the walls arent in direct contact or under water. it doesnt hurt to use a waterproofing membrane but it is not necessary.

A very nice video, and probably very useful for people who are intresting on such installation. For myself it is kind of watching National Geographic movie about historic technology from the 19 century found in Mongolia.
We are now in the 21 century, and have new technology with many simple and easy ways to install "on shelf" ceramic or clay shower pans. So I wonder who still using such....
I'm writing those lines with no intention to insult or to hurt somone feelings, and my appolgy if I did.

I want to do this because the shower tile in my master bath crumbled. The stupid builder used sheet rock behind the tiles! I am afraid I will screw it up, but I want to try. I can't afford to pay someone to do it right now.

These guy's are great but I would glaze that cement before adding tiles and shoot the back wall with a wood glaze to stop future condensation from penetrating it over the years and foam it to stop eventual molding. I know it might take 20 years but eventually as you get old you might start to get sick and not know why.
    But excellent job

Please people, if you're a home owner this video is showing you the INCORRECT way to waterproof your shower. For you hacks that build like this and low ball a ligitmate builder you give all of us a bad name. However, I can't tell you how many bathroom remodels, subfloors you've given to me to redo. Its like you guys are job security

RE: dfried 97 - "ceramic or clay shower pans" ? This doesnt make any sense. Fiberglass maybe.
Yes, this shower is definitely not waterproof. Why not paint Laticrete hydroban on the cement board ? Why not use 6 mil plastic behind it ? Why not let niche flange overhang cement board so it doesnt drain behind it ? I hope the pan liner is glued to the drain properly. And last, the hole for the seat will leak. Better to just set a couple cement blocks in the corner and tile them. RESEARCH !!

  • @newlifetilecoreyvalentine2312

Well, what can I say that has not been said. I am not if favor of his system: there are too many mistakes made. This system does appear to be more accommodating to the DIYers, but Dang! Who do you blame for the problems that will follow; the guy in the video helping sell products or the Goobs who bought into it. I will say that I am now inspired to make my own video. Not so sure that I want to give away my trade secrets though. Hmmm, we'll see!
