Great detailed review. Don't forget there are 3 drive modes, Eco, Normal & Sport. In Sport you can squeeze out more performance out of the engine and CVT plus you have the option to manually "shift" through the simulated gears with the gear selector.
I have a 2019 C-HR XLE "TRD" version I bought new and drove off the lot 5 years ago. It is my daily and I LOVE IT! It has given me zero problems. The fact it is a higher riding vehicle means when I go to my mom's house to help her out I can easily drive her around because she can has no problem getting in and out of the car. She is getting older and getting in and out of my Civic just does not work for her.
I love the look of my C-HR and it handles great! I bought and installed the TRD Air Intake Kit to squeeze out even more horsepower from the engine along with another special mod I added to the engine and the TRD Lowering Springs make it handle even better and improve the overall stance and look of the car. I have not looked back since. Best of all, none of these mods void the warranty because most of them are genuine Toyota parts. My C-HR has plenty of get up and go when I am merging onto the freeway and it is really stable at triple digit speeds, just don't ask me how I know. I also fitted my C-HR with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
I am not a fan of the new C-HR in Europe. In my opinion, the new car has lost the sportiness and low cost that made this car appeal to me. The chief engineer for the C-HR was a race car driver and he improved the performance of the car after testing it on the Nürburgring in Germany. I think all that was lost on the new car. Too bad they discontinued it here in the US because a GR version with that 300 horse power inline 3 from the GR Corolla and a 6 speed manual version would have been on fire and would have been a great addition to the GR line up of cars.
I feel like with this vehicle there’s a learning curve to driving the CVT. If you just floor the peddle it feels a bit sluggish, but if you slowly apply the accelerator and let up just a tad at certain RPMs it will simulate switching gears which to me seems to get it up to speed quicker than just pushing the pedal down to the floor. I really don’t have a problem with the speed of the vehicle and of course with this engine you already know you’re not getting a performance vehicle so I wasn’t expecting it to takeoff like a rocket. It looks way better than anything else in its class.
Motorcycle commuter. 2000 SV650.. I have a 2020 C-Hr with less than 10K miles... love it for the things I cant do on two wheels. The 2022 looks fun.
I wish I watched videos before I bought my CHR. I was caught with the design. Had a corolla before and I miss it so much, the trunk space was so deep without having to fold seats. I definitely have to do more research next time.

Looks like this little beast has cup holders in the doors of the backseat to make up for the lack of cup holders in a rear-center armrest, that isn’t offered. Nice review. I considered one of these briefly a couple years ago. I drove it and simply couldn’t get into the CVT. There are better vehicles but I did like a lot of things about this Toyota. I ended up with a new Mazda CX-5. And I’m on my 2nd CX-5 lease

I had a 2018 Toyota C-HR, exact same blue color. It was my first car and absolutely loved it. Then at 80,000 miles the transmission went out and couldn't afford the $8,900 to get it fixed so I had to get rid of it. I really hope if Toyota is coming out with a 2023/24 Toyota C-HR it will be as I have been hearing, the CVT just gives me anxiety about getting another C-HR, or any car with CVT for that matter. I'm also looking forward to the Toyota Crown.
I’m surprised it wasn’t under warranty. I just picked up mine certified pre owned with 30k miles and a 100k warranty
@@pb4920 Was it a 2018? The problem with mine is that I bought it from Carmax (mistake on my part), and the manufacturer's warranty had 150k miles or 2 years. Since the car was used more than two years, I could no longer use the warranty for Toyota even though the car had well below 150K. If I do get another C-HR, it will definitely be new because that CVT is important to take care of and you wouldn't know how the previous owners took care of it. Apparently most 2018 C-HR's had transmission problems that I did not know about before buying it. :/

Sometimes, while in a curve, and the system detects a parked vehicle. It freaks out with the “Brake” warning and sound but does not break for me.
shame you don’t have the Hybrid!!
I test drove it, it seemed great, enough power but... the blind spots in the rear side windows was BAD. I would not buy this without the blind spot monitors. I ended up not buying it because of the blind spots.
Really not an issue once you get used to it.

For all that this car has going for it (per this review), the bottom line is that it has one of the lowest satisfaction ratings (per Consumer Reports) in all likelihood due to its woefully underpowered powertrain. The satisfaction level would have been greatly increased with a virtually no-cost modest power increase.
I still like my 2018 XLE. Just over 30k miles on the meter. Wish it was available with a real automatic transmission and not the K114 CVT. Keeping an ear out for any "humming" noise coming from it. Hopefully not, I have had the tranny fluid changed a month ago.
Sometimes, I forget that I left it in Sport mode (via switch mod).
The 2 litre hybrid power train we have available in UK / Europe really suits the C-HR.

Can't say I'm a fan of the design. It looks like a blob with a Honda butt. The name is rather Honda-esque as well, strangely enough. It seems underpowered and is rather fuel-thirsty compared to its competition. I can see why this vehicle appeals to young people though. It's stylish. It offers lots of options standard that young people want and it's affordable.

Too bad the performance is so dismal. It has been withering on the vine, and I suspect that Toyota will kill it soon with the Corolla Cross out, which is still lackluster but better than the CH-R.
Its an excellent vehicle. In fact the best in the segment. Chr will be back in the New Toyota BZ electric as per the concepts
Does every car have to be a performance car? All the CHR owners I know have said the performance is adequate as a daily driver. It's not meant for drag racing or the track.

@@braetonwilson4296 no, the CHR is not a track car, but still too way underpowered. Why Toyota gives it this outdated 2.0NA, and not the one with more power in the Corolla makes little sense. Around me, you need more power to get on the highway safely.
I stopped watching when I heard the power numbers and uninspiring mileage considering the former.
Strange. I have gotten up to 38mpg on mine. Mostly Interstate.

One of the worst car I own, bought it brand new, ofter about 40,000 mile’s transmission went out! It cost a lot to replace then at 130,000 miles I had to replace the front axle fell apart on me! Not to mention all the recalls shame on Toyota! Made a crap car! I wish a Toyota rep would contact me so I could give them a piece of my mind or give them their crappy car back!
Over styled! Not my cup of tea! I bet mazda cx30 handles and drives way better than this chr.
