I use Nagoya 771G antennas most of the time on my HTs. They perform great. I got a few Smiley Antennas too but i keep going back to my Nagoyas.

Though the NA-771 is a little better than the NA-701, at least with the 701, with the radio clipped to your belt, you don't run the risk of poking your eye out if you look down at the radio. Seriously, the shorter NA-701 ( or similar length ExpertPower XP-669) work pretty well. You can always screw on the NA-771 if things are really marginal.

You didn’t try the negoya tactical folding antenna for the ht that’s a really great option and durable

GMRS I did know what that stood for I have a set of midland walkie talkies I think they are GMRS with low band.

I can miss stuff. How far apart were you???? Was the better performance worth the pain in day to day use???? If you do start checking SWR with a ground plain plate at the base. The rubber ducky will be terrible. The 70cm/ 2 meter flex antenna can be cut shorter and can tuned for very good SWR. Wire up the middle is the director and the brading on the outside casing is the driven element. When you get it cut perfect glue the end so the wires don't touch. I'll give you clue. I cut mine to just under 11 inches from someone's advice. Any antenna that give you gain also becomes polarity sensitive. So I'm back to my rubber ducky because it is simple and I really get tired of holding the radio straight up and down to talk.
Don't be like me with two walkie talkies and a parrot repeater talking to myself seeing how terrain, foliage and water effects UHF.

A friend of mine is trying to talk me out of getting a Baofeng GM-15 pro and it's telling me that I need to get a $200 Wouxon instead. He said the Baofeng firmware is unreliable and can be wonky. I just want a capable radio that I can hit a few repeaters with. I'm also considering the Radiodiddy GM-30. I can get the radios and upgrade the antenna plus the license for less than $100. Considering that you have these radios and you have probably programmed them and programmed other videos, what is your opinion on the quality of the latest Baofeng models. I believe he only has experience with the UV-5r

Did you put any of these antennas on a analyzer to see if they were even close to being in tune for this band,, especially the telescopic one?
There's also the question of feedline loss on those garbage magnet antennas.
Buyers should also be aware that there are a lot of fake antennas being sold, on Amazon and eBay etc, labeled as Nagoya, comet, diamond, and several of the other reputable names. Some of these are way off frequency, want to just be straight shorts or dummy loads, and have a tendency to fall apart very easily.

Thanks for watching. The channel doesn't currently have an antenna analyzer but we do plan to get one. We're not like "some channels" that are sponsored or get products sent to us free. We buy everything you see us use and we do all our own stunts lol. Between full time railroading and everything else we enjoy making the videos.
... But you are correct we need an analyzer and we will look into getting one.

@@barrystamper528 if you want to start with something that is very affordable, simple to use, and very flexible - and something that many of your viewers can aspire to - I would suggest the NanoVNC which is currently about $60 on Amazon.

@@HarryHamsterChannel if simplex is possible, then yes. I've personally (with barely a year of hands on radio) noticed that the lowest amount of resource usage is best. You get more lifetime from not only the radio itself, but all the components including antenna, coax, microphone, speakers, etc. So, lowest power setting that can hear you clearly and simplex if possible as to not use a high powered repeater.
