    I recently purchased (2) GM-15 Pros and installed the Nagoya NA-771G on both. Achieved 6 miles of clear reception / transmission. Located in Central Florida moderately hilly, trees from backyard to a point 6 miles as the crow flies. Very pleased. Thanks for the video.

      Hi. I live in Central Florida and looking for a good GMRS radio that me and my wife can use. Your 6 miles transmission, is it simplex handheld to handheld radio transmission? I'm thinking of a base station and a mobile in with an 11-mile distance and if your 6 mile is HT to HT, I think my goal can be easily achieved (fingers-crossed).

    I was looking at this radio on a Prime Day deal. Yes, it's almost an exact copy of the GM-30, but the GM-30's biggest flaw is that it has an SMA female on the radio which is the opposite of 99% of other Chinese radios. Per your excellent images, the GM-15 Pro has the SMA male on the radio. Wish I'd bought this radio instead. 😕

    For this radio, can you go to channel 30, for example, by pressing the channel button, and then program the tones into the radio? I guess I’m not sure how this radio works, (for example), if you can only go to channels one through 22, but then you have to program the repeater channels into it? This may seem like an obvious question, but I’m visually impaired, I cannot see the screen. The radio is actually on sale for $20, for prime day. Thanks for any assistance.

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  Před 28 dny

      You can add CTCSS or DSC codes to either or both transmit or receive by channel as you described. GMRS radios have channels 23 through 30 as repeater channels so there is no need to figure offsets. Just remember TX is the code your radio sends out, RX is for what your radio receives. When dealing with repeaters, folks sometimes mix those up. Cheers.

      Are you sure you're not in VFO mode? A long press on the menu key (top left) switches between the two modes. If you have the voice prompt on, the radio will announce "channel mode" or "frequency mode." With a GMRS radio the channels are locked so you shouldn't see anything but the GMRS frequencies in channel mode - channels 1 - 30. and the DIY reserved channels. If that doesn't work, contact your seller. Maybe the thing's broke.

    The one odd behavior that I've found on this radio relates to charging.
    When you plug in the charger to the USB port, the radio stops receiving.

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I suspect this is because they don't want the lipo battery to be damaged during charging. The instructions mention this in section 2.7. Thanks for the information posted on the BaoFeng HT radios. I recently purchased the GM-15Pro, I downloaded the programmer software Prodioddity GM30. After installing the UART driver for the communication cable, it was an old driver but seems to be working on my Windows-11, when I launch the Radioddity program and load the radio information I don't seem to be able to expand any of the channel table columns and width, everything comes up collapsed on the display. Has anyone have had this problem? I can click and see the channel information screen just fine; this is the GUI box that pops up and I am able to set the settings with no problem. It is just how the channel table matrix being on the computer screen that it is collapse. Like in an Excel table one can pick a side and expand the height or width of the columns/rows not on this application though. Any suggestions? Perhaps is the old Windows driver provided by the Mfg that I need to update? Thanks

    Sma female connect on radio is backwards to most radios and makes replacement antennas harder to find. Real exotic high DCS codes can not be manually programed in to the radio and must be programed in via software.

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  Před 2 lety

      FYI, the radio has an SMA male or plug connector. You'll need an SMA female or socket antenna. Most Chinese radios have male connectors on the radio side. Japanese manufacturers such as Yaesu and ICOM have the male connector on the antenna.

      @2148aa Před 2 lety

      @Celtic Pride A year makes a difference. Last year State Fair time in Twin Cities everything was 141.3 Ctcss to talk on the systems. This year 2/3 of the systems. One has to beg permission for the codes and the two that sent me back the codes. Both were Split DCS. I don't care about the down link.
      I live 200 miles from Milwaukee/Chicago and sometimes around sunrise. I pick repeater Downlinks. When I look for CTCSS there is none. And DCS scans are coming up eccentric I351N or above DCS.
      I don't have the power or desire to get into these systems. And when that open/ The systems are overwhelmed with contacts from Michigan or Indiana. Hook repeaters to Nets and the system becomes more then a mess that the gate keepers find eccentric ways to keep commoners out. I have had more fun listening to farmers, businesses, and families go on about their lives on GMRS and FRS. The GMRS crowed has gotten stale. Then again I was the guy found 800MHZ analog cell phones and 47 MHZ cordless phones entertaining.

      Two primary differences. GM15 has more programmable receive only channels and 9R has a waterproof rating. The 9R will require a different programming cable and can't use most accessories like hand mics or wired ear pieces since it has a different, waterproof connector on the side. Check you firmware by turning off the radio, press the button below the PTT and hold it while turning on the radio. The firmware number will display for a couple of seconds. Write it down. You may have to do this a couple of times to get all the numbers right. Mine showed 06.03.006. On the download page I'd get the 210615 version that lists 06.03.006 as the matching firmware. When I tried downloading it, it downloaded just fine - for me. Let me know if I missed the point of your question.

      Many radios, both ham and GMRS, have a menu item for a setting called dual receive or something similar. You can choose to listen to one or two channels. Some will also allow you to select which register you transmit on.

      I'm not sure what you mean by locked so if I missed the meaning, I apologize. The * key on the keypad will lock and unlock the keypad with a long press so you can change channels, and go into the menu system, etc. The small icon is supposed to resemble a key. If you have the CPS, load the radio's settings into the CPS and on the General Settings Tab, uncheck autolock and reload to the radio.

      The UV-5 G Plus radio has some additional features like more channels. It comes in a two pack so total price is higher, but per radio the price is similar. Also two antennas. Otherwise very similar performance-wise. Styling might be your biggest factor. Take a look at my review of the UV-5G Plus czcams.com/video/7D5Fob77hHk/video.htmlsi=UOLkf0jniGrFy37_ Use the link in the description for a discount. Cheers.

    Good Morning Sir. Question regarding FM radio frequencies with this radio. I just picked up 2 of these for my brother as a gift, and one pf them can only recieve between 65 and 75 MHz. The other works fine and receives the full range of stations from 65-108 MHz. Is there a way to fix/unlock the rest of the stations either manually or with CPS? Or is this a defect I should return. Thank You in advance.

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  Před rokem +2

      In the US the FCC requires GMRS radios to only transmit on GMRS frequencies and doesn't allow users to input frequencies, even if they are the GMRS channels. You can only transmit on those channels which are accessed via channel mode. The FRS and GMRS channels are the same except for bandwidth and output power. Your FRS radios should work fine with a GMRS radio.

    Again I will ask on usb charge plug.
    How does a 5 volt cell charger charge a 7.4 vdc battery.
    Unfortunatly no community repeaters up on a tower so no repeaters in SW PA . So gmrs is only good for simplex which all stores are using outputs and you can't enjoy gmrs repeaters anyways.

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  Před rokem +1

      Duane, If your goal is to chat with others in the area, consider getting your technician ham license. About 30 to 40 hours study with free online study tools and you'll be good to go. Maybe less, depending on your background. 5 volts charges 7.4 because the 7.4 is actually two 3.7v cells. USB chargeable batteries have a charge management component somewhere in the circuit.

      You're using airwaves that are important, monitored, and used by various companies, agencies and organizations. A CB has no license...the GMRS has a "license" but no test and the amateur or HAM has a license AND test. Each of these I listed has more responsibility than the previous AND more capabilities to not only monitor but transmit on sensitive and important frequencies. So...the as the responsibility and ability goes up then...there is a need for acceptance of responsibility, training, and/or license. It's not a conspiracy. You need a license to drive, fly, practice medicine, and even fish... don't get carried away with the Constitution and wacky conspiracy theories. Crazy went out of style in 2020.
