The Herd with Colin Cowherd:
/ colincowherd - Sport
Do you agree?
Colin Cowherd I disagree with YOU..im not a raiders fan.
I'm an oakland raiders fan
Colin, the Oakland Raiders are the Oakland Raiders, not the LA or LV or San Antonio or NJ or Brooklyn Raiders. They are the Oakland Raiders. Oakland.
raidernation297 I'm not a warriors fan I'm an oakland warriors fan...when they move to sf...i won't even watch the nba..when the raiders move I wont watch the nfl
I agree. I've always been a St. Louis Rams fan and when they moved I didn't care. It's still the Rams. But when the Seattle Supersonics moved I didn't become a OKC Thunder fan because I didn't feel like that was the Supersonics anymore. The Raiders will still be the Raiders, just a different first name
I actually do
It's more about being a fan of the team that represents the city I grew up in, not the franchise
Trevor Paolone agreed!!!!
I agree and I'm not from Oak Town it breaks me too with the move to Vegas. We are Raider Nation but it birthed in Oakland. I'm Die Hard, reguardless I feel for you Oakland I understand your anger as I would too if I was an Oakland native. I don't know how to feel but I know that I wish there was more to keep them in Raider City.
Trevor Paolone yes
Colin is right and dead wrong on this take. He is right that in this day of age, with the miracles of modern media in 2017 i.e online/social media, digital cable, smartphones, etc. if you a fan of any team in the '4' major North American Sports leagues, it's easier than ever to follow them even if you in a different part of the country. aka La Laker fan who's now living in New Jersey. Plus he also right the NFL is the most unique sports league anywhere, in which it's mainly A TV-centric sport. Whereby it has a huge national even international following, with fans around America and the world.
With that said Colin is wrong in that any huge amount of taxpayer should never be used again to build stadiums for Multi Billionaires other than for paying for infrastructure such as public transit and highways to get there. I know the Davis family,(Raiders)and the Spanos family (Chargers) are not as rich as say Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft. In that case IMO, 1)the Raiders should have stayed in Northern Calif and moved to the 49ers stadium in Santa Clara(until a new stadium in either SF or Oakland was built) 2)If the Chargers could not a viable location in San Diego moved to Anaheim not LA. 3)from this point forward no other city/region in America should every pay again most of the cost of building a new stadium for any sports team unless that city/region gets ownership share. 4)let the major tv and cable sports networks also start to pay for at least a portion of the construction of these new buildings since they already paying tens of millions in naming rights anyhow. Without TV, any sports league can not survive.
Just my takes. Private business footing most of the costs of new stadiums (ie NBC, Fox, CBS giving loans) would have allowed the Chargers to stay in SD the Rams in St Louis and the Raiders to stay in the Bay area. And 2 expansion team should been awarded to LA and another city i.e Toronto, Mexico City or San Antonio. That what should have happened. Instead Jerry Jones has his own way in being the 'real boss' of the NFL and not figurehead Roger.
AmericanGiant100 Raiders paid public $$ to get the team back from LA yet bellyache now about what Vegas is doing #hypocrites
yes you are less of a fan. how many people in Cleveland support the ravens? how many minnesotans support the lakers? ridiculous argument
Stephen Carter when did those teams switch? i guarantee you people that grew up watching the lakers in minneapolis liked the lakers after they left.
Cleveland has their own team now and most people who saw the Lakers in Minneapolis are dead
I don't know how you can guarantee that. but I can definitely prove their are no ravens fans in Cleveland, and there are probably no colts fans in baltimore. people's allegiances aren't to the franchise, they're committed to the city.
The "Browns" never actually left Cleveland. The franchise and all it's intellectual property were held in trust with the promise that it would be revived in a few years through an expansion team.
Stephen Carter I bet there is some Colts fans living in Baltimore.
Seattle isn't a Thunder town.
THANK YOU!!!! Cannot support them. They were stolen from us.
yup, I've watched no nba since the Sonics left. I was a fan of the SEATTLE Super Sonics, not the OKC Sonics/Thunder. if the Mariners left for Vancouver I wouldn't be a fan anymore because I am a SEATTLE Mariners fan, not a Vancouver Mariners fan.
superflyvc if it was the OKC Supersonics it would be different. Raiders fans outside of Oakland don’t care about the move. LA fans don’t care.
Montana Roots I was a sonics fan.
Don't compare the Sonics/Thunder to thwe RAIDERS
Colin,, you probably speak for 0.01 percent of the oakland raider fans. your perspective is that of an NFL owner not a fan.
I'm a RAIDERS fan through and through. Oakland, LA, Oakland, Vegas...Just Win
Frank Javier Gonzalez rn4l
I'm with u on that brody
Ur wrong Colin. I go to the game for the experience. Tailgating, the black hole, the atmosphere. I could care less about money
Torres_Since94 yea I agree it's not the same.
Well that's great, but numbers don't lie, millions of other fans seem to think differently, so he's not wrong
I am pretty sure tailgating experience will still be there in Vegas. I can almost guarantee their will be BlackHole v2.0. I went to four games last year to Oakland. I live in Corona, CA. Now the Raiders are closer than ever and am super thrilled. I made the trip to support my team, in anyway possible. You can too. It's what you make of it. This is what's best for our Raiders. Like Colin stated, it will attract lots of FA's
pyrosaxplayer12 well see
pyrosaxplayer12 yea for sure. I'm gonna go tailgate in 110 degree heat wearing my black and silver jersey. smh
Here in Belgium they didn't even broadcast NFL games until the early 2000's, but there has always been Raiders Jersey/T-shirts/hats/memorabilia for sale. That's how well known they are. That white cap with their black and silver logo is legendary.
By Colin's logic, people in Philly should have been celebrating when the Warriors won a title. Cleveland fans should have celebrated when the Ravens won. But they didn't. When you root for a team, you don't root for them because you like the logo or because you just picked a name out of a hat. You root for them because THEY REPRESENT YOUR CITY. When your team moves from the city, it no longer represents your city. When the Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens, Cleveland fans didn't suddenly root for Baltimore. You root for the city, not the franchise.
Daniel Mears bruh I cheer a team from Toronto, Dallas, Saskatchewan, Victoria, Chicago and Georgia. I was born and raised in Victoria BC. I don’t cheer for cities (honestly I hate the city of Toronto). Cities have never and will never matter
This is so true. I was a Lions fan because I liked their play style and their underdog status. But when the Rams moved into town, I couldn’t help but slowly switch. Now I root for the Rams far more than the Lions, whether I liked it or not, because they represent my city.
Colin doesn't understand sports fandom at all. Most NFL fans are connected to their teams through the city that they're from. They don't care about how much revenue they bring in. I wouldn't be a Arizona Cardinals fan if they moved
AZCardinals 4 Life your name is literally azcardinals 4 life. how would you not be their fan if they moved? your name is that you like them for life?
AZ means Arizona
The Cardinals have moved more than any other team in the NFL.
You do know the Cardinals were once the St. Louis Cardinals and you were still a fan of the CARDINALS, right?
No, I'm in college and for my entire lifetime the Cardinals have been in Arizona, that is why I'm a fan.
The NFL made 14 billion dollars last year. You're trying to tell me they need public funding for a private investment?
Victor Ramirez they don’t need it.
Victor Ramirez exactly right
they just realize oakland no longer is a pro sports town
Seven Grand the Raiders realize that Nevada has no state tax and could save even more $.
As an OAKLAND Raider fan, I definitely care
Daniel Wiggins i feel for you buddy as a bills fan
Daniel Wiggins doesn't matter bud, 2020 head to Vegas or SF...
Did you root for them when they were in LA?
By 2020, the Las Vegas deal will be dead anyway. #OaklandRaidersForever
Daniel Wiggins As a LAS VEGAS Raiders fan, I support them no matter where they go. As long as they're getting better and closer to the Superbowl, I'm happy.
I was one of those 18 million that went to a game :)
Same, when they came to Wembley :)
same haha
Tyler B. me too...all the way from Southern California. and I brought my 1 and 7 year-olds...lol.
I went to the Panthers game @ Oakland when Carr hurt his finger. F-ing AMAZING when Carr returned to the field. EVERYONE in the crowd ROARED. I've never been in an environment that load before.
the reason people do not go to nfl games is not because they don't want to its because they cant afford it.
Curtis Friend EXACTLY!!!!!
Yup been watching the raiders since I was 10 grew up in the Central Valley California my parents never had the money to take me last year was my first raiders game
If the NFL has truly become a television sport, why do they keep building these massive stadiums and expecting the host cities to pay for them?
The Raiders have NEVER had their own stadium. What Professional franchise since 1960 has had to share their home arena/stadium? Its honestly a much needed move for them. The Oakland Colosseum needs to be torn down immediately after they leave.
The Swoosh the Lakers/clippers share one. a lot of professional teams share theirs with someone
carlos gutierrez the staples center has concerts the Oakland stadium is a baseball dump
MN Twins and MN Vikings shared the Metrodome from the 80's till a few years back. Vikings owned most of the revenue from it, but they shared the stadium.
A5harpie - True, I think that was a step up but everyone knew that they needed their own stadium at some point. Back in the day, The Giants and 49ers shared candlestick and now they have their own stadiums. It just happens.
Giants and Jets are sharing (yes same sport but still).
This has to be one of the weakest arguments he has ever made. Of course the city a team plays in matters.
Like he said, transplanted LA resident Steelers, Patriots & Cowboy fans are still fans, but only because they still represent the city they're from. These teams and their fans are connected to their city of origin. WEAK ARGUMENT COLIN.
idk man. me personally, the reason i root for a team is cause they're from where I'm from. like thats what connects me to that team. if my team moved to another state, they're not my team anymore how could i root for them?
Rice 'n Beanz exactly! If the Penguins moved to Kansas City like what nearly happened I wouldn't be a fan of that team because I'm a Pittsburgh Penguins fan
Yatu Sabe raiders are a worldwide brand bro
the raiders won a super bowl for LA in the 80's. LA and the bay area hate eachother. point is the raiders arent loyal to oakland and never have been.
I don't think most fans care about team revenue. They just care about their city having a team, and when they move to another city they feel betrayed.
That being said though, I can totally understand why the Raiders wanted out of Oakland. Las Vegas will be a much better city for them
These arguments are as insulting as they are upsetting, this guy is a prime example of why there isn't any integrity in american sports. The Bills are a huge staple of my city, losing them would be devastating, you can't claim that they are irrelevant because they are a small market team, if anything that's why they're something to cheer for.
ummm bills fans would just become giants or jets fans. it wouldnt be devastating at all. Getting cancer is devastating.
Bills are local city team Raiders are a global brand meaning bills most fans are from upper ny maybe the region Raiders like the 49ers cowboys are global brands meaning they have fans nationwide
The Browns-Ravens analogy was stupid.
The answer to that question is yes and some. Not only were Cleveland fans less of fans of the Ravens even before they got the new Browns, they hated the Ravens and still do to this day.
Right. Do Baltimore people still love the Colts?
Then the Packers must be an enigma because they're located in one of the most backwater and rural cities in the country but they've remained one of the most competitive teams for almost 3 decades now.
they are really miluakees team aka 10th largest market in usa
Nfl teams can still win games, even though they might be in a small Market town. Colin Cowherd argument is false in that aspect. It ain't like Green Bay's got a lot of money in their town. They keep on winning.
Good example, honestly.
I was actually fortunate to go to a packers game for the first time it was a great experience.
The Packer's ownership structure is VERY different from the other teams also.
green bays in the miluakee market which is like top 10 in the usa.
80 percent of colins arguments, he uses money as a simile #Facts
Colin is wrong. He's speaking from a business aspect. Sports is a business but teams shouldn't move. Especially the raiders with their history.
Nah, people (specifically most Oakland raider fans) didn't want them to move because the raiders did a lot for the city and they were prideful of them being in "your" city
So you think fans shouldn't be upset? Owners moving their teams are basically giving their fans the finger. Why support a team whose owner doesn't care about you? This is all about the rich getting richer.
I'm a Raiders fan. Have been a Raiders fan forever. I've never been to a Raiders game in Oakland . I've been to Raiders games in other cities. I plan to attend Raiders games in Las Vegas, regularly. I just don't like being in Oakland. Sorry if this offends anyone, but I'm not the only fan who feels this way.
fans will boo a player if they leave, but then cry if the team moves.
When the fans (via taxes) pay for the teams home, they have every right to be angry. I dont see any owner to pay for the new suv of their suburban fan-families.
The reason (most) people root for a team is because that team plays in THEIR city or state. If given the choice between your team becoming an elite contender in another city or a terrible team in your city you pick terrible team because it's your team because they play in your city. If they leave, you have no reason to root for them because what drew you in the first place was the fact that they were the local team!
Im from New Jersey born and raised and I love the raiders never liked the giants and jets
As an Eagles fan, I can't relate to anything Colin's saying, maybe on the west coast it's like that, but places like Philly, New York, Boston, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh are nothing like this.
#FlyEaglesFly Great name by the way hahahahah
Spot on Colin! Strictly business decision. As a USC alum and I love my Trojans but the taxes are the reason I am leaving Cali and moving to Vegas. I will travel to LA to see Trojans home games and uber to Raiders games.
After the Rams moved I can no longer be a fan of them. I can't support a team with an owner who trashed our city.
M Ferry so you had no problem with GF taking shots at LA when she moved the Rams and when they won the SB?
@@rspister of course not but to m ferry LA is the devils city.
Seven Grand huh?
@@rspister can you read?
Seven Grand can you write a coherent sentence?
No other teams identity is more closely associated with their community.
Nobody would advocate the Raiders getting rid of the Shield. Oakland is just as emblematic of the brand as the Shield is.
The city of Oakland literally NAMED this team. Do your research. The colors and theme were selected based on Oaklands geographical location & climate. The teams personality was specifically designed as Oakland. Blue collar, rebel misfits that nobody else wanted. A team that isn't supposed to win but does. Legendary players were Oakland residents. They were part of the community.
I've been traveling from Jacksonville, Florida (grew up in Fla) to Oakland for Raiders games for yrs. I'm gonna miss it but I have family in Hayward & San Jose. I'll still go visit Ricky's in San Leandro. Don't care where The Raiders are, I'm there. It's a Nation. #RN4L
#RaiderNation
Ricky's is one of my go to's
your right about stadium situation in Oakland. Horrible place to play. The Raiders have been needing a new place for decades, now they got one coming in Vegas. It's just sad that they had to leave California. The Autumn Wind is a Raider, blustering in from sea! There is no sea in Vegas! Too much history in Oakland being left behind. And yes! I'm a Raiders fan living in L.A. who watches on DirecTV but loves to drive up the 5 north to see my team play.
I was born and raised as a Raiders fan. I was almost named Bo and Marcus if that tells you anything. Oakland and LA were fitting for the Raiders because the culture in those cities matched the way the team played and helped them earn the title of the bad boys of football way back when the rivalry started with the Steelers. With that being said, Sin City and Raider Nation just seem right. Of course the history of Raiders in California can’t be ignored but at least it’s Las Vegas and not somewhere out of place like Utah or Texas.
Yet Colin was angry with the chargers move
Eamon Cassels Yeah that’s a good point
Before I had money... I stood outside a chipotle as soon as they opened for 2 hours to get tickets to see the raiders. I want the organization to do better because I want to see them back in the playoffs but this still hurts. This does not feel good at all.
I am not a fan of the Dallas Stars even though I was a fan of the Minnesota North Stars. Hockey is and always has been my favorite sport, but I have never gotten that attachment to the NHL back. (I am a stubborn case though.)
7 years later and completely wrong. You know it doesn’t work when a team like the Vikings who’s fans don’t travel well take over your stadium
My Dad has owned season tickets for 10 years, it hurts for season ticket holders. The couple we sit next to has owned season tickets for 40 years. It hurts, trust me, it hurts.
It's about the team that represents the city/state, it's not about the brand of the team.
Although the moves sucks for a fan, Colin is right about the numbers here
When the Raiders win the Super Bow in 4 years, in what city will the parade be?
So it DOES matter where the team is!!!
wiggywil exactly!!!!
it will be in vegas obviously.
Only thing that is going to bug me is now I am supporting a team that is no longer in California. I am from Cali and live here. I was hoping for a move in Cali still but Las Vegas is now closer to me from a 6 hour drive to now 2 hours. Just happy for my Raiders for having a home now.
How many OKC fans are there in Seattle? Joke is OKC stands for Originally King County.
I'm A Los Angeles Raiders Fan.
Always Have Been, Always Will Be.
People not from the Bay Area are dead wrong about the tarp issue.
It has nothing to do with attendance. The Raiders DECIDED to section off the tarp due to operational costs/liability based on the poorly designed deck.
Raiders have been selling out games for 13 consecutive losing seasons. Currently there are 20k on the season ticket waiting list.
I would go to my teams game because I'm 8 hours away but the seats are always full
You have a lot of bandwagon fans in the NFL because people move to the different cities across the United States but you can still root for your hometown team even if you live in another City
Agree, sometimes people forget sports is a business
I lost the Sonics :(....im not a fan of Thunder.
Jamison Saddler
Because they aren't the sonics. They are the thunder. Also because the sonics aren't remotely iconic compared to the raiders.
*_Colin your forgetting about the importance a city's identity has with having a NFL team attached to it's community. What about loyalty to that community who pay their hard earn dollars to have it represent them. Oakland will be forgotten over time and Oakland Raider fans shouldn't care?!? Give me that mic!!!!!!_*
100%
Value on the free agency market is pretty much my only concern now as a fan. They checked off everything else on my list.
I remember you in Tampa back in '94.... I still enjoy you Colin.
Maybe is Oakland actually got a new stadium deal they wouldn't leave. They have been stalling for YEARS and share a stadium with a baseball team yet it's ok....
I think Jon Oliver put it best: if taxes were all that mattered, then everyone would be playing for the Cayman Islands Conches. There's a reason we don't have the Cheyenne Patriots, the Anchorage Bears, and the Sioux Falls 49ers. (And the Rams saw fit to move from moderate-tax Missouri to high-tax California.) That said, I'm excited to see the Raiders go to Vegas, though I'm not a Raider fan or an Oakland-area resident who'll be personally affected. But it can be harder to see relocated teams on a weekly basis if you don't have Sunday Ticket, depending on where they move to.
Oakland has great potential as a city but it's taking big losses with the Raiders and the Warriors leaving.
I don't know about LA being a Raiders town. I was born and raised in St. Louis. I was stuck for 30+ years with the football cardinals. I left home in 1969, (drafted), and stayed in California after serving. I still followed the Cardinals because they represented my home town. When they moved to Arizona I completely lost interest. Over time I had converted to a 49er fan because they represented where I lived. I don't agree with the premises of this broadcast.
All relocations are a slap in the face for all the loyal fans.
Reason people don't want to watch football at the stadium is at home you can fill the ad breaks by doing stuff, at the stadium you just have to watch nothing
I grew up in LA, & haven't been there in 20 years. But to this day I'm still a Straight Up,Die Hard Lakers,Dodgers,Kings & USC football fan. That's where my allegiance lies & it will never waver no matter where I move to!
I agree 100%
Therefore, Stadiums shouldn’t be footed by taxpayers since , as he said, its not a ‘be there ‘ sport.
The only reason why the Raiders moved is that they will make more money in Las Vegas... heart broken .... :c
thats because people from LA are notorious for being bandwagon fans
Y'all are trippin your name and profile picture 💀😂
nah most ppl are raider fans since they went back to oakland. I can tell you this the traffic to vegas is going to be brutal on thursdays and fridays once they're there.. Because it already sucked its just gonna be a next level
yeah those with no allegiance, but there are so many raiders in the southland.. SD for years had a rule that if you wanted to buy a ticket to the raider game you had to buy a preseason game because half the stadium would be full of raider fans. I grew up in Baltimore and we'd fly to oakland, I now live in Long beach and flew up to Oakland twice a yr. but Now Ill fly to Vegas.. Theres so many ppl who are like me. We root for the Raiders not the city. Whatever is best for the Raiders is okay for me. I feel for Oakland fans especially growing up in a football less city of Baltimore until 1996.
Fans of the Dodgers, Kings, Lakers, and SC football fill the stands regardless of record.
If you only recognise the 2nd part of a team name then it is not a issue.
I'm pretty sure Seattle fans don't really like the thunder since they moved. The reason people like sports is because hometown pride.
Colin you are dead wrong as usual. The Raiders in Vegas is the most idiotic relocation in history.
I'm a Boston fan and if any of teams left Boston there would be mayhem. If disingenuous to say that it shouldn't matter to fans where they play.
Lot of die hard Raider fans in LA are going to Vegas for the weekend to watch their team because the drive is half what it was to Oakland
Colin has a good point.
I live out of the country and I can get DirecTV where I live. I can stream college football on CZcams plus I can go to a sports bar and see these games.
I lost my team. Oakland California
If the city a team played in was irrelevant, then all of the sports leagues could simply do away with city affiliation, build a few stadiums around the country in major metropolitan areas for purposes of attendance, and have the Budweiser Browns take on the Coors Cowboys.
i'm 2.5hrs away from chicago (in indy) and i only root for the chicago teams
cool story bro
The Teams are rarely loyal to their employees (players)so fans shouldn't be so naive to think that loyalty is the element that drives the NFL.Especially Raiders fans that have dealt with the team moving once before.
Raider Nation is International. I'm a Raider fan and I really don't care where they're playing- and I live in California. I didn't want them to move, but now that they are, I'm excited for the Nation.
But as for Colin mentioning Raider 'fans' saying that they "lost their team"... I'm surrounded by Raider fans and I'm active on some Raider blogs- i heard NO ONE say that they aren't a Raider fan anymore. It just doesn't work that way. You're either disappointed and/or excited about the move.
I can see the point I live in Seattle and am still a 49er fan
That's what's wrong with US sports. You have franchises instead of clubs. Clubs can't move and that is good. I feel bad for Raiders fans.
Silvio Dante franchise is kind of synonymous with club here. The Hawks are technically called the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club
They will be fine in Las Vegas!
facts, im a die hard raiders fan and i think it will be better to move into our own stadium in our own city. it's still the raiders just a different place
to be honest if New England moved i would be heart broken... i feel bad for the other fans who teams have moved across the country
Teams are closely tied with the communities they represent. To truly understand this, you need to look further outside of the country to know the relationship between clubs and their communities. Look at the FC Wimbledon and MK Dons story and even the SV Austria Salzburg and RB Salzburg story. Teams are a representation of their communities. The NFL moves them because they don't actually care about the communities their teams represent or their respective cities.
Well said Colin, preach!!
I tend to disagree with Colin on football takes, however he knows his stuff on the business aspect
It doesnt matter where they move.....im a hardcore Raiders Fan.....and i live in Puerto Rico
People that say they won't cheer for their team if they move aren't true fans in my opinion.
I'd disagree cause when the Sonics left Seattle almost every former sonic fan hated the new Thunder
so true
The point that Colin is making, that everyone seems to be missing, is why is it okay for a fan to move away from the team, generally speaking for monetary reasons, but the other way around is seen as unacceptable?
I feel sad for you US fans. Swapping the city and the name just like that, LOL get rekked
I’ve been a jet/raider fan my whole life. Don’t tell me I can’t root for 2 teams. This isn’t politics. BUT. Oakland raiders/LA raiders fans are hardcore. I know it hurt a lot of fans for them to move from Cali, but we need to stick together and cheer for the black and silver !
Is Oakland going to lose the Athletics too? That would suck.
The Cincinnati LAKERS? 😕
Colin you live in the state of California? I had no idea I had never heard you mention that before
colin, alot of people don't realize that this will grow for the raiders not only that but the fact that were only 30 minutes away from the cali border, and 4.5 hours from SD and LA. this actually brings pressure to AZ, and cali teams. if those cities football teams dont step up, #HelloVegas..
I get what he is saying I live in South America and can still watch all the Lakers Games
But if you were from Argentina and Boca moved to Brazil, you probably wouldn't be a Boca fan anymore.
I have never been to a football game in my life and I'm a Raiders fan the live in Vegas, so guess where I'm gonna be at now on game day?
