Last I checked stealing something of value is still a crime (and don't get it twisted, a game worn QB superbowl jersey is valuable) and taking it into international territory is FBI jurisdiction. So, there's no "waste" of resources here. Clearly this is not just a one time thing but a consistent thing. Just cuz you don't like the Patriots doesn't make it not worth doing.

Sports memorabilia has sold for millions before, and I wouldn't be surprised if this particular jersey's value was in thay ballpark.
