If you look at his entry wounds, Pac was hit below the door handle of the BMW (meaning he was sitting down when the shots were fired). 4 total. 1 in his right ring or middle finger. 1 in his thigh. 1 directly in his lung, from a straight parallel trajectory. 1 in his hip/pelvis area which travelled through his body, ending up in his upper torso... None of the shots were in his back. So this means, he was never standing at the time, or could not have been getting in the back seat because as Suge has repeatedly admitted since 96, he held him down during the gunfire... This means if Pac was being held down, he could not have possibly been Suge's shield. It was physically impossible.

The only discrepancy that I would disagree with is if Suge didn't see or could not recognize who was in the car, how could he actually state that it was Southside Crips? I do believe that he didn't see who was doing the shooting (from the back seat). But I think he either recognized the driver, the passenger, or both in the car.
