    Anshuman Gaekwad.... great human being. Nobody could've put it better than Mike Holding.
    May his soul always in rest in peace.

      First time Holding is praising an Indian. He normally hates them. Used to criticize even tendulkar. And downplayed indias victories in aus in 2019

    An absolute great, Micheal Holding talking about another legend, Anshuman Gaekwad. That's the beauty of India and West Indies. Relationships off the field.

    I was there at KSCA Stadium in December 1978 when Gavaskar got out for the first ball edging Clarke to Gully. It was Anshuman Gaekwad who stood tall and scored 87 which helped India get decent score.

    "Check out 5:01" "Not the person who takes the most wickets is the best bowler, not the ones who make the most runs the best batsman, don't just take numbers into consideration, look at the people and you shall see class", for me it meant to look at a cricketer's videos and performance in situations. Rest in peace Mr Gaekwad.
    A very doughty opener who withstood the mighty West Indian pace battery, respect.

      Yes but Runs and wickets do matter after all you need them to win matches.

      @@Spiritkill1 fully agree with you. But during the mighty West Indian fast bowling era only Mohinder Amarnath and Sunil Gavaskar withstood the storm. I meant that there were times when there were flat pitches or rank turners, and we had defensive captains and administrators who developed them. That did not help Indian cricket.

    • @Spiritkill1
      @Spiritkill1 Před měsícem +1

      @@JituRawat_india Who withstood the storm has nothing to do with my comment you speaking in context of comment that batsman who doesn't make most runs or takes most wickets is not best batsman to which I replied that at end of day runs and wickets win you games... so figures matter... also you forgot Dilip Vengsarkar later.

      @@JituRawat_india The comment about pitches and administrators also does not have context to comment I made about runs and wickets.

    May he rest in heavenly peace. Michael Holding is a great human being and an intelligent person, always speaking sensibly. Remember him arguing against the fixation of current fast bowlers on building muscles. He said fast bowlers should exercise the muscles relevant for bowling by bowling more.

    One of my friend played local cricket for Baroda and knew Anshuman, he told me after 1976 tour he return home, he shown his shoulder and back, it was black ! he took so many fast balls on his body. Such a wonderful and brave player.

    • @davifdavid4347

      Celebrate your warrior and never forget his name. He withstood 100mph bowling from the quickest of them all, and he didn't shy away. India's players,today,would not have been brave enough to withstand that type of bowling without the body armour and slow pitches that makes them so fearless in the current era.

    You're wrong,actually!! If you read his autobiography, called Whispering Death, Holding writes about that bitter Test Match in Jamaica,in 1976,but then goes on to talk about the friendships he developed with some of the Indian team,including Gaekwad,Brijesh Patel,etc. Holding talks about the battle on the field, but that, once off the field, the battle should not be taken into the pavilion.As a consequence, there was a regular exchange of phone calls,birthday greetings and acknowledgement of each other's cultural celebrations. Do a little bit of reading once in a while, and you just might learn something
