Remember when you would watch Fansub and they would explain that Amaterasu is the God of the Sun and Tsukuyomi is The God of the Moon? Official releases lack on that part.

Almost all the Mangekyo techniques are based on Shinto gods.
Tsukuyomi - God of the moon
Amaterasu - Goddess of the sun
Susanoo - God of the storm
Those 3 are central to Shinto religion and the offspring of the creator god Izanagi (another mangekyo technique), Izanagi's wife Izanami died, and he went to the underworld to save her but she had already eaten food of the underworld and thus could not be saved. After fleeing the underworld he decided to purify himself by bathing in a river. The 3 deities were born of him as he washed, Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo came into being as he washed his left eye, right eye, and nose respectively. Interestingly naruto switches the eyes. Another thing worth noting in shintoism is the tale of Susanoo slaying Yamato no Orochi, a giant eight headed snake, and he did this with the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi (sound familiar?). After killing Orochi, Susanoo found the sword of Kusanagi (Orochimaru's Sword) in Orchi's body. Though in myth Kusanagi is stronger than Totsuka unlike in naruto. Also in the Susanoo story there is a jewel (Yasaki no Magatama), which is also a technique in naruto, and a mirror (Yata no Kagami) again something in naruto related to the mangekyo. In Shinto myth the sword of kusanagi, the yata mirror, and the magatama jewel are considered the three sacred treasures and are also the imperial regalia of japan.
Also if you're familiar with Okami the game a lot of this will sound familiar as well, especially since yamato no orochi is literally in the game and there's also a uh certain rendition of Susanoo, and the wolf character you play as is literally Amaterasu. Also the weapons you get are the imperial regalia, a mirror which the game calls reflector, a sword, and beads or jewels you can use as a whip.
Going back to naruto stuff though, Kotoamatsukami is also the collective name for the first primordial gods in shintoism that came into being at the beginning of the universe. The only one that isn't directly related to shintoism is Kamui, which is a reference to Kamuy, a spiritual being from Ainu mythology.

I used to stay in japan. The sharigan or "tomoe" are carved into the shrines, referring to the god of sun. It's cool to see.

Actually amateraasu doesnt mean goddes of the sun, amaterasu IS the name of the goddess of the sun, the whole series doesnt have elements of shitoism and buddism but is actually heavily based in gneral shitoism foklore, from the firt episode of naruto to the last, and it brings together most stories in many literal ways, also the sharingan of "tomoe" is not technically a thing but each one of the tomoe is actually magatama stone which is a part of the 3 sacrred treasures, something that next episodes will touch, the mirror the sword and the stone

What r you on my guy he needed the fire jutsu to get storm clouds because he was too weak to actively draw lightning chakra of that magnitude from his own self. Furthermore he was at full strength when facing naruto and he has mastery over lightning to a considerable level and can cover his body in it on a molecular level shown in his fight with deidara and later on against ayy so don’t waffle like sasuke really has to shoot fire balls in the sky each time he wanna use it like like if that’s the case then why would he be so confident to use it against naruto fr r u tapped 😂 the only reason he didn’t use it is cos orochimaru said they need them to clear more akatsuki members for them not even highlighting that sasuke couldn’t do the jutsu which knowing his personality first hand he would have let him attempt if he knew it wouldn’t work just to make sasuke feel as if he has more to learn playing in to orochimaru’s hands perfectly

Amaterasu is the Japanese goddess which the Japanese imperial family has claimed to be decedents from and is the oldest continuous monarchical family in the world.

I cannot even imagine how hype it would’ve been if there actually was a ‘Sakura Shippuden’ where she just had her own arc not tethered to Sasuke or anything. That would’ve been amazing but
Sakura had more than enough potential to be a great character. Kishimoto screwed her over. I wouldn't mind an entire arc dedicated to her with the version of Sakura we saw during her fight with Sasori.

Kishimoto don't know/don't like writing female characters, unfortunately. She had a lot of potential, the times when she gets some appropriate focus are really cool(like the fight against Sadori or when she fights Shin in Boruto).
In Itachi's left eye is the shinto god of the moon and in his right eye is the Shinyo god of the sun

These three episodes are a turning point, from what we knew to what we know, from how we saw the world to how the world is (and nothing will be the same again, seriously, when I first saw this fight and what followed, I was like "everything I knew about Naruto and the world is wrong, it's just wrong" and having gone back to watch previous episodes again, I see it all so different)

y'all still don't seem to understand each mangekyo sharingan is different and only bestows one ability. Itachi is an exception being able to use Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu. Sasuke can't just do it if he "tries hard enough"...

Amaterasu is the Shinto goddess of the sun and one of the three primary deities of Shinto myth, alongside her brothers Tsukuyomi - god of the moon - and Susanoo - god of the storms. All three were born from primordial deity Izanagi when he cleaned himself after leaving Yomi, the Shinto underworld, having failed his attempt to reclaim his wife Izanami from there before she ate food from there.
You see, each individual Mangekyo Sharingan grants a unique power, so Itachi has 2 Sharingan powers - Tsukuyomi, the perfect genjutsu, and Amaterasu, the unblockable Fire Style ninjutsu. We have seen these black flames before, even Jiraiya could only seal the flames in a scroll because they burn straight through chakra, these are flames that can't be put out. The backdrop of such brutal power though is that it extremely strains Itachi's eye, to the point of bleeding
Sasuke though has used the fire to his advantage, hoping to pull off the finishing blow

Well Suraj, Sasuke is able to move around as he pleases since he is not currently affiliated with a hidden village. If it were the other way around, Naruto could have also had top tier fights back to back.

Itachi used Amaterasu to escape Jaraiyas' jutsu. Which Jaraiya said was supposed to be impossible.
This battle further showcases Saukes' genius in battle (even though Itachi is no where near 100%). Just like we saw his growth when he defeated Deidera.
For anyone confused on what Amaterasu is spoiler free, Amaterasu is a Mangekyou Sharingan power that produces inextinguishable black flames from the eyes focal point of where it's being casted from, it's as hot as the surface of the sun and cannot be extinguished by anything, it will never stop burning except for when the user of Amaterasu stops the flames themselves by putting it out from burning or if they casted it and then die right after it will slowly go out, it is also the highest level of Fire Release jutsu a person can preform in the Naruto world to date, it's so hot it can even burn through other flames and pretty much anything, also it is pretty much impossible to dodge it since when the user does cast it they have to look at you meaning it's casted instantaneously so yeah
Do you guys remember the first time when Itachi used the amateras when it was when Kisame Itachi tried to escape from Jiraiya's jutsu in the first part, but it was not explained. You can check in episode 85 of the original Naruto
even with such a handicap Itachi is still a formidable opponent :)

Amaterasu is the main god of Japan's national religion Shinto. She's the goddess of the sun I believe. Also all of the sharigan abilities are tied in to Japanese mythology, specifically around their pantheon of gods.
