In Godzilla's defense, he had been basically fighting non-stop for 2 days on top of searching for Mechagodzilla before actually fighting him, so at that point he was pretty tired. The director even said that Godzilla wouldn't have had much issue taking Mechagodzilla down if he was fresh on the scene

I love how Mechagodzilla gradually took Kong more seriously as the fight progressed when he was mainly focusing on Godzilla. In Mechagodzilla’s eyes Kong went from being nothing more than an inconvenience to a primary threat when he brought out the axe. 💀💀

Seeing the comparison to Vegeta makes the Godzilla x Kong trailer hit harder. They really had the same type of arc, enemies, to earned respect, to reluctant allies, to brothers. I hope it fulfills this arc in the next movie, and that we get to see more Godzilla and Kong together even after that.

Even though he is basically just a giant gorilla, he still put in work against a mythological creature that can swim, shoot lasers, and get stronger from nuclear energy. And Kong ended up saving Godzilla and destroying Godzilla 2.0. But even when he was hurt and had like 10 HP, Kong still stood tall when it looked like Godzilla wanted to run the 1's again.

Godzilla pretty much proved in 2 battles that he was superior to Kong, but Kong did fought better than expected both times, while also earning Godzilla's respect. Even though Godzilla in his weakened state needed Kong's help to defeat mechagodzilla, Godzilla still ended the film as the undisputed king of the monsters.

And the two part ways, though Godzilla will always be the King of the Monsters, he acknowledges that Kong, while not his equal in power, is his equal in heart and soul, they’re not equals, but they are willing to stand side by side

I loved the way this movie did the fights between these titans. Kong absolutely lost the first fight because he's fighting a _marine creature_ in the _WATER._ Kong can't swim, Kong can't breathe underwater, meanwhile Godzilla is at his most invincible.
Final fight, Kong is getting in close and hitting Godzilla as much as possible because if it turns into a ranged battle, Kong has nothing to counter atomic breath with. And when Kong tries for the Ol' Jawbreaker, he forgets that's where the atomic breath comes out of.
They gave each monster a fighting style that made sense for them, rather than just slugging each other until one goes down.
Godzilla only won because of a technicality in the contract this is why it was not a rematch between the toho version of KING KONG.
There really was not reason to watch this version of Godzilla vs KONG because it wasn't a rematch and they didn't stay true to source material the lack in viewings proves my comment factual

That's it. Him losing isn't part of the contract as toho doesn't care if he wins or looses. Legendary already had the rights to kong before the MV even existed and were working on a kong reboot with universal originally. They just moved the project over to Warner Brothers and fused it with their planned godzilla 2 sequel fo create the monsterverse.

It's actually Cannon that Godzilla had gained mad respect for Kong after his defiance, and left him to die a peaceful death. Obviously Kong ain't going to die on his back, so he keeps trying to fight, only to fall down and actually die. Of course, this is before the humans use the ship to revive him.

Honestly, I think that Godzilla was getting pummeled so badly because his fight with Kong used up a bunch of energy. Not to mention, Godzilla has been searching for MechaGodzilla for who knows how long, so naturally, he would be a bit worn out in some parts.
He also blasted a hole into hollow earth from the surface with his breath which used a up a ton of energy. I doubt Godzilla was even 50% power at hos point.
Apparently if Godzilla was fully-rested he would've won the beam struggle.
Considering an atomic breath powered axe melts M.G.. If Godzilla's Atomic Breath hit, it probably would've melted M.G's face off.

@@Cammy974 ya but that was inconsequential. Despite Kong swinging it with force, it barely penetrated the scales. And with Godzillas insane regeneration, that basically means the instant he pulled that axe out the wound would've began healing. The healing factor definitely would've used extra energy tho
King Kong should have won but was handicapped by the writers, King Kong had just been brought back to life and he killed mechagodzilla 98% alone, when written without the fear of Godzilla fans. The Axe is OP and Godzilla would have been killed.
Things to note:
1) HIM KONG in the water fight wasn't at his peak as he was drugged to all hell. Jia is the only reason he even went on the ship, and didn't just rip his chains of right then and there and make everyone there his PACK.
2) GODzilla is stated to only be POSSIBLY killed by the "Kiss Of Death" because Mecha G can't do enough damage to him cuz of his thick scales (bro barely got real wounds compared to what GOAT GHIDORAH did). He would have won against Mecha G's beam clash if he was EVEN close to full strength.
3) Mecha G wasn't at his peak because he did not have the Hollow Earth Radiation. He got what was essentially a imperfect emulation of it, not what for example Godzilla and others Titans have.
4) Despite me being a Goji Fan you gotta admit Bro could heart. He wouldn't bow down to Godzilla no matter what (which Godzilla respects).
Your last point is something ALOT of G fans need to remember instead of just bashing on kong for just existing. If G fans can respect gamera despite he would never win against godzilla (and lost in death battle) or anguirus/rodan despite both never won a single fight in this franchise then kong should get respect too. He didn't care about being king of the monsters, he just didn't want to submit, godzilla acknowledged that and respected that.
If godzilla can respect kong, then it's sad some G fans are incapable of doing that

@@yoshineitor The problem is people disrespect kong by acting like the fight will last as long as godzilla vs zilla where godzilla can just 1 shot kong and be done with it with zero issue. That's not a fight, just a slaughter. Even when kong fights back despite the odds are against him, you STILL got people (mostly fanboys) who say "this is unrealistic" or "why is this fight being dragged out, just end him goji" instead admiring kong for his bravery but nope. They just treat it as a sitcom as they enjoy seeing the ape get demolished and hope he dies.

Exactly the first fight ain't even fair. The 2nd is just barely fair if it weren't for the fact they made Godzilla faster then he'd EVER been on land in the previous 2 movies. Here the movie favors Kong in the story and Godzilla in the fights, while in the original was more of an even ground of sorts- Kong gave Godzilla much more of a fight there even before the lightning strike and him knocking himself out hilariously
