I don't think that it's an issue with the belt. I have the revel visible V8. During assembly I hand to take all the parts and remove and sand smooth all the casting slag. This could be the issue that is causing your problem. In the video it seems like something is catching and causing the belt to jump. If you watch it seems to happen on a regular basis and not randomly. One way to help locate the issue is to count the crank rotation. If it does it every single turn of the crank, then the issue is crank, rod or piston related. If it is every other turn the issue is cam, rocker arm or valve.
This is a cool video. Did you notice that on the front side of the engine (where the button is on the base) the instructions for fitting the cams appear to be wrong as both valves open or close together, not in a cycle as they are on the back of the engine (i.e. the other bank of cylinders). Any idea what alignment the cams should have?
A very good model with a MAJOR flaw in the cam / spark timing area. There are 16 cogs on the crank pulley, 15 on the cam pulleys, thus it is constantly drifting out of proper position. Proper arrangement is crank pulley is 1/2 cam pulley, so if the cams had 16 cogs the crank would have 8. Believe it would be possible to have 18 on cams, 9 on crank and still fit insde cover. Anyone know how or where to find the correct parts to do this?
Once again, another cool model you won’t see on any other channel. I absolutely love the diversity of this channel. Great advice/techniques, great models - what more could anyone ask for? Thank you for sharing!
I would strongly advise that if you buy this kit you locate the two bags of springs and separate them as soon as you open the box. Mine got all discombobulated and I tried to locate replacement springs and could not. The Company was kind enough to replace the entire kit. They, of course, get a very strong recommendation from me. The kit is super fun to build!.
This looks like a great father and son or father and daughter project! Pretty cool kit where the parent could just watch and let them learn with a tad of help. Gets kids into building stuff...another nice build Chris!

Excellent video Chris, I have done this kit about 2 years ago its still together and runs perfectly its a good one to get you motivated and back into models. Many thanks.
Really cool and different. Great job, Chris. Yeah those postal clerks. I was in the US Navy for 20.5 years (December 85- June 06) I was a military postal clerk. A military postal clerk would never have done that to your box, only those civilian postal people would have done that. But seriously another nice build. Best channel on CZcams.
I got a Revell Visible V8 Engine Model Kit for Christmas in 1977. I put it together but I didn't think it was spinning fast enough. So I put 3 in 1 oil over every thing. Not sure if the oil attacked the plastic or that it was spinning too fast but my block broke apart. I tried to glue it back together but it didn't hold. The spark plugs lit up and it had valve springs and valves that worked also. I think that motor was based off of Chevrolet's 265 ci V8.
Awesome video. I bought this for my 4 year old who is very hands on loves tinkering and working with his hands. I know next to nothing about engines and me and him had it altogether in 5 hours. What an awesome awesome little project. Absolutely loved it. Definitely buying the flat 6 next year. Only downside was exactly like you showed the fan tips down and the gears skip a little so i will definitely take your advance and find something else to replace the belt. Again this is an amazing product especially the price rn was originally 100 i paid 60 bucks brand new and i love love it. And again thank you for the video best one ive found.
Cool! I did the “old crank style” Visible V-8 years ago and it too was very well made , everything was a perfect fit and it ran beautifully..... until my nephew cranked a little too fast and it blew a couple of lifters right into the valve covers! One thing I learned was that you have to deburr or get rid of all mold flashing and the little tips from the trees to make sure of no interference or bad fit
this is an awesome kit to do as a family build... it would be great for teaching the 4 strokes of an internal combustion engine 1/ intake 2/ compression 3/ power 4/ exhaust.... cool kit !!
Yes, very much so! You get the idea that a few others seem to miss in their inability to just enjoy assembling a fun model. It's a cool display model that anyone, young and old alike can build and enjoy while teaching basic things about engines as well.
Nice educational kit! There should be more educational kits like this for various different things... seeing something work makes understanding it so much easier than just reading about it in a book :)
Awesome build! I built up the Revell Visible V8 back in the day, i think I got most of it to work...*snickers* This looks like a wonderful educational kit, and a boon to those of us who aren't so automotive savvy! Now we need a visible turbojet engine for us plane buffs!

I remember when I was young I always wanted toys like this Being still mechanically inclined, I realized that when you grow up, *the real thing becomes the toy*
It's too bad they got rid of the electric starter motor and replaced it with a hand crank. The original one did not turn over well with the supplied starter and 4 c cells I believe? A Tyco train transformer will make the renwall/old revell kit spin pretty good. But it didn't have sound and was difficult to assemble the multi piece crank if you were a kid. Same with gluing clear plastic parts with debtors glue without making a mess. I think this is a cool kit kids will love cause it actually works. Bonus on having sound too!
@@briancarsen6315 I cannibalized all of the electrical components and the transmission from an old Visible V8 that I built in 1975 and installed them in a new model that I built two years ago. The old, operational and new, "inert" pieces are completely interchangeable. The Frankenmodel runs well, the plugs fire, etc. and it's much better- detailed than the one I built when I was 15. This project took about 2 months to complete because of the detailing I did to it.
Been wanting to get one of these engines to do myself. Love how detailed you are with each process. If you're open to suggestion the opening to your videos showing each tree with every model and every part is the only slow part. If we can get to prep and the "sub-assembly showoff" a little quicker it would make the videos a lot more satisfying. Anyway, I love the channel and will continue to happily watch
Thanks for the suggestion Daniel. I've removed the parts look before and lots of people wanted it back so they can see all the parts in closer detail and everything that's in the box, especially on the 2n1 and 3n1 kits where I don't use all the parts. Thanks again!
The old v8 had little nuts to install like nut plates or captured nuts to screw into. Not straight into plastic holes. It also had a motor and distributor with the same two wires per bulb spark plugs.
23:10 I was thinking of getting about 3 of these for my nephews for their birthdays. but I have a problem: I don't see an exhaust stroke. the "spark plugs" seemed to be firing at all the wrong times - the pistons appeared to always be on a combustion stroke, and the spark plugs seem to be firing when the piston already half way down the cylinder, which means less psi. Not sure they can really learn with this DYI engine model kit.
This is so cool and I really wish I could find an affordable but fun engine model especially one with quite a bit of parts and not one of these really small one as in not a lot of parts
Do you have any suggestions for fixing the clunking that happens when the valves hit the pistons? We think we need to align the cams better but we are not sure how to go about it.
The valves shouldn't hit the pistons at all. Something must be off with the cams or the cam installs so that the valves are dropping into the cylinder at the wrong time. You'll have to reassemble the cams per the directions.

I have bought 2 of the revell V8 models over the years and I messed up both of them. I found it extremely difficult and I have built alot of models...but that V8 has me beat....so far....
Well you can always have fun with a kit like this and then go back later and work on the Revell which is a nice kit but has more parts and requires glue, etc.

It only has one speed. Slow enough to see how each valve works, etc. Stay tuned I have another model engine build coming very soon. Thanks for watching! facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
I came here to see if anyone else was getting the clunking noise of the valves crashing onto the cylinder heads and I see that I am not alone. The AABBCCDD cam locations are wrong. I believe the order should be DABCCBAD. But, it's ultimately irrelevant. After a lot of testing I discovered that the timing of the crankshaft and camshafts drifts. In other words, you can set this up perfectly but within a few cycles the crankshaft and the camshafts will get out of sync and the valves will crash onto the cylinder heads... and then it will drift back into sync again... and then drift out, etc. Also, because the lights (sparks) are sync'd to the camshafts and not the crankshaft, they also flash at the wrong time and not at the point of compression. The net result is that what looks like an impressive model which was initially fun to build, turned in a frustrating and ultimately futile attempt to make it work accurately and consequently it's educational value is lost. PS If you try the AR application, it is also completely wrong and shows both the inlet and outlet valves for each cylinder opening together at the same time!!
The people that designed this know absolutely nothing about automotive engineering Cam to crank ratio is 17:15...Impossible to sync! Cam lobes on left bank are all wrong! If this is what they teach kids in school now days....we're in big trouble! Save your money!

P...... ostal DIS-service. We have the same in Canada.
LOL, yeah they were rough on it for sure.

Sounds more like a brick in a blender than a V8. 😅
