My sister and I were at the taping of a network talk show years ago. We were about 12 and 13 respectively. Our grandma got us the tickets and we were excited to go. That is until a break in taping. The performers started walking around and we caught the eye of some C list celeb we recognized who was hot for about 10 minutes. We thought he was hot sh@t and enthusiastically jumped up and down and asked him to please sign our autograph books. He flipped his hands at us with this nasty look on his face as if he couldn’t be bothered then walked off. As kids we didn’t understand and were a little hurt. Well unknown to us Anne Meara saw the whole thing. She grabbed her husband Jerry Stiller and walked over and said something like” Hi kids! Would you like us to sign your autograph books?” They talked to us for a couple minutes. Signed our autograph books and made us feel special. Stiller and Meara. What class acts they were.

Valerie Bertinelli came to the local mall where I live when she was 16 and on One Day At A Time. My best friend and I were thrilled to see her since we were the same age and big fans. @@kln58cub my guess is similar to yours, but based on a different source of irritation for lucy. i really have met a lot of stars, billionaires, royalty, world class athletes, etc. from my work in five star resorts. almost every single one was pretty nice and respectful of me -- a working stiff. i think lucy was probably a generally unhappy woman because her marriage was always shaky and troubled. desi cheated on her throughout their time together and she was really hurt by that. also, she ran the desilu studio and was a mother, too. i bet she was always tired on top of being psychologically wounded. that doesn't excuse being rude to fans, so i think she bears some responsibility here, but even though she was a huge star, she had a tough life.

My cousin actually dated Dave Grohl between '97 and 2000 (they are still friends). He actually wound up at my 25th birthday party in '99. What a sweet guy. The first time I ever heard "Breakout" was Dave playing it on my guitar, on my amp, in my living room, singing it too me.
He also sent me a Queen, and Brian May CD's, that Brian had autographed after Dave had told him that I used mostly Queen music at my brother's funeral, who had passed in '98. It was Brian's idea apparently. They said he didn't say much, but he told them to wait, signed one CD to my late brother (that is someone who understands loss), and one to me. He handed them to Dave and said "Send these to Jason". I found that incredibly touching.
    Life is weird.

Interesting stories! If I may, I've been a working actor since 1957 and I've learned that, "everyone can have a bad day." In other words, even nice guys get angry or don't seem friendly sometimes, although on most days they can be extremely nice people. That said, some actors are well known for being dicks, and others for being quite friendly and approachable. Here are my "Dirty Dozen" most memorable celebrity meet ups.
    1) Tommy Lee Jones. The absolute worst. Mean and standoffish, his cold attitude can ruin the entire atmosphere of a set, at least during my experience with "US Marshals." His co-star Wesley Snipes had major ego issues as well, only in a different way. A total prima donna, on stage and off.
    2) Mel Gibson. Just the opposite of Tommy, extremely warm, funny, and outgoing. His movies are always great to work on because of this. We were working in Chicago at the time on "Payback," and everyone from US Marshals would visit our set, but nobody ever wanted to visit their location, for the reasons mentioned above.
    3) Paul Reubens, "Pee Wee Herman." Quite the opposite of his screen character, like so many comedians I've met, he was quite reserved in person. He told me that he actually created SIXTEEN entirely different characters, but was disappointed that people only wanted to see Pee Wee. I have a theory that the reason for his public obscenity arrest is that subconsciously he wanted to kill off the Pee Wee character so he could pursue other roles, but eventually he made a big resurgence years later, and unfortunately just passed away at the age of 70. I already miss him.
    4) Kevin Pollak. Another comedian who has had an amazingly successful acting career. But unlike 99% of the comedians I have met, he is actually funny all of the time!! I think one of this greatest gifts is his ability to mimic other actors, especially his William Shatner imitation from "Star Trek." A terrific talent, all around.
    5) William Shatner. If you're a big star or a pretty girl, he can be the most animated and interesting man on earth. But if you aren't, you simply don't exist. That's why I have always referred to him as, "Captain Jerk." He's a good actor, but incredibly ego driven from Day One. His charm is entirely superficial.
    6) Heather Locklear. Very pretty, and very nice. I don't believe she was the best actor, but her sweet and easy going personality allowed her to work constantly. She was also Shatner's co-star on "T.J. Hooker," where I met them both. She was just like any young girl, no sign of a "star attitude," and a wonderful sense of humor, too.
    7) Rob Evan. Star of Broadway's "Jekyll and Hyde." Absolute sweetheart to work with, and one of my favorite B-Way voices. What I learned from him is that Broadway stars are entirely different from Hollywood stars in the way they work and are noticed by the general public. Broadways stars are much harder working, as they often have to perform eight live shows per week, every week, where Hollywood stars only work briefly and are recognized more more readily from their movies, with fans always mobbing them for autographs, where most Broadways stars are only seen on stage and largely go largely unnoticed. You could be sitting right next to The Phantom of the Opera and never notice, in fact, this exact thing happened to me.
    8) Andy Warhol. Incredibly quiet and shy, yet equally outgoing when he felt comfortable with you. Always fascinated and interested in anything new and innovative, this motivated him to be one of the most creative geniuses of the 20th century. I had him sign my copy of "Interview" magazine, and he was happy to oblige.
    9) Ray Milland. One of the greatest and most popular stars of the 30's, 40's, and 50's, even well into the 70's, he was one of my favorite actors of all time. But one day when he walked into my store, I nearly fell over because I had just seen him the night before in my favorite ghost movie of all time, "The Uninvited." I thought he might be happy with someone recognizing him after all these years (he had lost all his hair by this time), but instead he gave me a look of pure anger and hatred, a look that chilled me to the bone. I discovered years later that he HATED to even be recognized in public, much less spoken to, forcing me to learn an important lesson: The characters on the screen often aren't always what they may appear. Sadly, Milland was the single biggest a-hole I have ever met, anywhere, anytime.
    10) Jose Ferrer. Met him on the set of "The Love Boat," which featured all of the great stars of years gone by, usually just before they died of old age. I was so excited to see him after watching him on "Turner Classic Movies" perform the greatest role of his life, "Cyrano" in 1950, that I just blurted out, "Mr. Ferrer, you were the greatest Cyrano that ever lived!" He gave me a smile of appreciation that I knew came from his heart. Everyone likes to be remembered, especially when all the young actors on the set didn't even recognize him. A marvelous man and a tremendous actor.
    11) Donovan. Perhaps one of the greatest singer/songwriters of "The Swingin' Sixties," his only real competition was Bob Dylan. I met him in a camera store, not because I recognized him physically, but because of his lilting, distinctive voice. I inquired, "Would you be Donovan Leitch??" and when he replied in the affirmative, I asked him if he was in town to do a concert, and he said "No. I'm here to see my SON'S concert." It was nice to know that his remarkable musical heritage would still live on.
    12) Fred Astaire. The single greatest celebrity encounter of my entire life, and I'm 75. One day I noticed a slightly-built man walking across Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills, but only saw him from BEHIND. His walk was so distinctive I thought to myself, "Only Fred Astaire could walk like that," so again I blurted out, "MR. ASTAIRE???" The solitary figure suddenly stopped, turned around, and began walking directly back to me. In a sweetly soft voice, he looked at me and replied, "Yes??" That began a 20-conversation that I'll never forget, with me asking about nearly his entire career as MGM's greatest dancing star as he patiently answered every question that I could think of. When he parted and my heart began to return to normal, I realized that this was THE crowning moment of my acting career, just to be in the presence of this entertainment giant. I am glad to say that a more warm, outgoing, and humble man you will never meet, the living embodiment of "old school class." Until the day he died, he was always experimenting with the new, never dwelling on his past accomplishments, only looking forward with enthusiasm to the future (which is probably why he was carrying a copy of The Beatles "White Album" under his arm), and why he told me how very much he enjoyed traveling the world speaking to young performers. He was quite literally, "The Best."

He walked onto the set with two super models, one on each arm. It was quite an impressive entrance! I was far too intimidated to speak to him, but suddenly he approached me, looked at my bright red glasses and asked, "Did you get those at LA Eyeworks??" Being a poor actor, I answered that "I couldn't afford LA Eyeworks" and he seemed to understand, especially when people like Elton John bought their custom made glasses there. I just Googled the store and it's still in existence, a pretty rare thing nowadays.

I worked at a hotel back in the 90's and at that time it was the premiere (only) hotel in the area, so whatever "celebrities" were in the area, they stayed in the upper floor suites. I never actually saw him at all, but prior to him arriving at the hotel, Neil Diamond's handlers or whatever they're called actually held a meeting with all the staff, maids, etc. and we were instructed by them we weren't to make eye contact or speak directly to Mr. Diamond and were told by management that it was a fireable offense. I worked in the set up department putting the tables and chairs in the meeting rooms for wedding receptions and banquets and whatnot, we had to set up the smaller meeting rooms for Neil and they requested stuff like one room we needed to put a mini-fridge in and there were to be 3 Perrier waters in the fridge, 3 room temperature, 3 in a bowl of ice that was to be refreshed. He was big into ping pong too apparently and we had to move a very incredibly heavy ping pong table from the pool area to this meeting room and it wouldn't fit on the elevator, so we had to carry up the stairs to the second floor and it seemed like the thing weighed 400 pounds. Then the handler person came in the room to make sure everything was set up to his specifications and I remember her being outraged at the audacity that the paddles and balls weren't brand new still in the packaging. So we had to scramble around to find new paddles and balls. Someone finally found some at Sears at the local mall and they were to be left on the table unopened, so Mr. Diamond could be sure no peons had used them before he did. He requested a very large and expensive/extensive meat/cheese tray for sandwiches with fruit and vegetables in the room as well. Next day I go to work to take down the tables and he never even went in the room. All that food went straight in the trash and we had to carry that table back to the pool area with the still new in the packages paddles and balls. I always laugh when I see something on tv where they refer to Neil as "beloved" and "America's songwriter". And prick. Don't forget prick.

I asked if he was doing the Love Boat and they both laughed and said they were doing another project on the roof and if they had known the Love Boat was filming there, they'd have scheduled another time to be there. It was funny and we laughed. As brief as it was, he was very nice and I enjoyed meeting him.

Went to the browns training camp with my dad and we didn't have much money in the 80s so I only had an Indians hat and when Bernie came up to me to sign my hat he took it,looked at it and said,"I don't like the Indians " and just handed it right back to me. To this day I can't believe any sports figure would turn down a kid asking for an autograph.

That was very interesting, Jordan. I really enjoyed listening to your stories. One of the rudest stars I have ever encountered was actress Marisa Tomei. Me and my friend was waiting for her by the backstage door on Broadway. There was only five other people there. She came out and didn't say a word to anyone. She signed for everyone, except me. I was totally ignored, as if I didn't exist. No eye contact and she totally ignored my request. My friend caught up with her just as she was driving off. She told her we had travelled from overseas just to see her and asked if we at least could take a picture. She just laughed and drove off. I've met stand-offish celebrities before, but this was on a whole other level. I used to be a huge fan of her, but not anymore.

So I’m not at all surprised to hear this about her daughter. She was also my sister’s teacher in junior high, the same junior high, (Cavallaro in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn), I think it was a media class. By the time my sister had her as a teacher, marissa had already become well known and won that IMO very undeserved Oscar. He made a point to acknowledge her, she said it took her a moment until it occurred to her that it was Kevin McCarthy--doing a very everyday normal thing - pleasantly doing the shopping- she was struck by how down to earth that seemed.

He shook mine and I got to say thank you to him for an amazing show. I get why he’s so standoffish with fans especially considering the amount of shit he gets for a lot of his output post pumpkins. He’s extremely intelligent and just doesn’t put up with peoples shit. That said, Jimmy, James and Darcy all came out first and completely blanked the fans and drove off, at least Billy was cordial enough to say hello to people who had gone to the show.

Like you Jordan, I have met up with many old Hollywood people living in and around LA from the 60s-80s. In the 70s, I used to go to Billy Barty's Little Peoples Golf Tournament in Irwindale. I met so many celebs and all were very nice to me as a teenager too. I think I surprised them with my movie knowledge about them. As a child, I had a bone disease in my hips and was a Shriner patient. I found out many celebs were Shriners too and loved to talk to me. I could not move very far from my house except for school and watch a lot of TV as I would tell them. The best person I talked to was Alvy Moore...AKA Hank Kimball from Green Acers. I went over to ask for his autograph and then asked him, where did his character come from. He was surprised because I also said I remembered him in many movies he was in. He told me he got his character from one of the writers from the show. Sadly, I don't remember his name. Always going off from one tangent to another. We talked until it was his turn to tee off. Still one of my favorite autographs I have today. I never could find out about his epitaph, Mr. Wonderful of Hollywood, came from. He is buried near many of my family members in Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills. I would visit him, and say hello when I did my family too. Sorry for the long story. I have many more from that tournament and just meeting on the street.

Jordan, I managed a CD store from 1992-2001, and through connections I made with record labels, promotions and managers I got to meet, get autos, photos and sometimes even hang out with many many of my fave singers and bands. Literally the ONLY bad experience I had was in 2005 with Alanis Morissette, who was dating Ryan Reynolds at the time. He had done 'Blade 3' by then but he wasn't the household name he is now. At her show in Miami, my friend and I were the ONLY fans waiting for her before the show. Both of them totally blew us off. Their band came over and pumped us for info (where's the beach, where's the convenience store, where's the record store) and we helped them then told them we just wanted Alanis and Ryan's autos, and maybe a photo. Band promised to put in a good word. They didn't. After the show there were not even ten fans waiting for autographs and Alanis couldn't even be bothered, she and Ryan just got on the bus and drove away. At that venue I had met over two dozen bands. I don't know what the bug up their asses was that day, but some celebs need to realize that we commoners usually only have ONCE CHANCE to meet them, so please don't be a dick.

I asked him to sign my 1967 Monkees comic and he said he'd never seen it before When I told him he could keep it he joked and said, nah its ruined, Mickey already signed it and laughed. Later when doing my genealogy I found out that Peter is my cousin! Wish I had known that then. But in 97, certain websites weren't around.

@@gailreese4102 It was a surreal experience. I was on the way back from a bachelor party in Vegas, boarded the plane and there to my left in 1st class was Davy. My mouth moved before my mind and blurted out “Oh hey, Davy!” He looked at me for a split second trying to figure if he knew me or should know me. He replied with “Hello…mate.” “Mate” came out sort of like a question 😂. Anyway, a guy in our party had been notorious for accepting bets then weaseling out them when he lost. He never learned that I never maid a bet I couldn’t win. So I bet him an impossible bet, I would get Davy Jones’s signature before getting off the plane. First off he had to buy the fact that Davy was even on the plane. Which he did NOT. None of the other guys believed it either. I think they figured I’d made a mistaken identity. I sat there drawing the Monkees logo on a plane napkin, trying to muster the courage to go back and get the autograph. Finally the pilot said it was the last chance to walk around so I went for it. Davy was listening to airplane headphones in a row by himself. I tapped his shoulder, told him I was sorry to bother him and asked him to sign my “art”. His eyes really lit up, he smiled and said, “man, that’s cool!” He then pondered what to write for several seconds. I was thinking “cool, he’s really gonna write something interesting”. I got it back and thanked him. When I got back to my seat, I looked at it and showed the guys. It said “Peace & Love” with his signature. Now the guy I bet claimed I had just signed it myself! I told him I would prove it when we got off the plane and spotted Davy at the gate. Of course, since Davy was in 1st class and we were in the back, Davy was long gone by the time we got off. Bastard welched on the bet - again! Anyway years later when Davy passed away I checked for his autographs on eBay out of curiosity. Guess what most of them said? “Peace & Love”!! Haha, I guess I wasn’t so special after all. 😂 Still, made for a fantastic memory and I still have the autograph. My Bill Murray story is even crazier…

Sunny Chaplin.. Lucky you❣️ Those DNA findings can be pleasantly surprising sometimes. I just found out a few months ago that Tony Sweet, a podcaster found in CZcams is my second cousin when I was notified by a dna test site. The Monkees have fond memories for me too. Time flies so fast.

Jordan, your channel is one of my favorites. I grew up in Hollywood/Burbank and watched filming at WB Studio from my second floor English class at Burbank High. Everyone I grew up with had relatives in the business. I worked at Universal and my favorite celeb was James Garner and the only one I asked for an autograph. (It was just understood you didn't ask so I envy you your collection.) Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn were also great people. I knew them before they met! My NOT favorite was Robert Wagner, but he had a really sweet wife in Natalie Wood. I won't say more on that. I read Shelley's wonderful autobiography probably before you were born. You were lucky to meet such an icon (and she was lucky to have you!). Rock on. ❤

It must be difficult to be 'on' all the time. It's a once in a lifetime experience for the fan but daily multiple encounters for the celebrity. Very interesting vlog. Thank you for sharing.

Eric Singer is one of the absolute most genuine, nicest, humble people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I knew the people who ran the Indianapolis KISS expo and one year we had dinner with him. One of my finest memories of meeting a STAR in my life. I work as Security for entertainers and believe me there are some real rude characters out there. Snoop Dogg was another fantastic guy, what you see with him is what you get, he is no BS and same as you would think he is.

I saw Kevin McCarthy riding a bike through the streets of New York City back in the early 80s. As you know he was a big man and he looked out of place riding a bike, but he smiled at me and gave me a big wave. Always liked him and his movies.

Very fascinating to hear about the different people you have met. It’s a good thing to remember to be nice to others so nothing bad is spoken about you.
We use to live close to a soul food restaurant and this one day we were out front and noticed this person turning into our driveway and realized it was Magic Johnson and he was so nice to take a photo with my son and sign an autograph, that was certainly a BIG thrill for us.
Jordan so happy to see our Jah, the sweetest dog!❤️
