Because of the continuing tension in the Himalayas on both sides, we are still an Army centered Nation, and given the current scenario both at the border and economically we will continue to do so. The Mig29UPGs are now capable of firing BVRs and lock on to multiple targets with the new Astra missiles, again they are as good as AMRAAMs and will be operational in around 1-2 years. Not even j20 can compete with Rafale. The most important part of an aircraft is it's engine. J20 is underpowered which heavily impacts it's aesa radar and ew suites which requires huge amount of energy.
J20 is powered by same engine which powers su30 mki and with 50% availability, iaf is hesitant to integrate aesa with this engine as power production for an aesa engine isn't enough hence it's either looking for gan uttam upgrade or a more powerful engine.
Hence, with Rafale e have clear edge over china as well.
But we need tejas mk1a, mk2 and mmrca asap

According to Russian aerospace engineers the J20 RCS is around 0.01 from the front due to its canards. Stealth doesn't depend on shape of the aircraft. Active stealth is much more effective and Rafale is one of the best if not the best when it comes to Active stealth. The two J20s stationed in Tibet don't even have radar absorbent coating on them. This info is already in the OSINT community due to the way they were draped. So, instead of rising to fake nationalism, think, visualise, read some more on the internet and then comment. But regarding the diverse weapon these weapon are meant for different objective in terms of tactical situation.
While economically thats a different ball game which i dont have much insight because these weapons are not purchased on one day basis rather over last 20-30 year.

IAF has been using c-130, c-17, ah 64, ch 46 and he 404 engine in Tejas. 26th Feb 2019: IAF Jets cross the LoC and launch Precision guided Munition on 3 structures located on a Ridge line called Jaba Top in Balakot, KP, located 50-55 Km from LoC.
Result: Targets missed due to the wrong GPS Coordinates. Tactically a failure but Strategically a very successful mission.
27th Feb 2019: A large PAF package approaches the LoC comprising F-16s, JF-17s and Mirage III. Mirage III protected by F-16s and JF-17s, are the closest to the LoC, drop their Laser guided Munition, at least three of them on an empty ground beside the Indian Army's Brigade HQ at Nowshera. At least one Munition does not explode.
Result: ISPR claims that PAF deliberately chose not to hit the Brig HQ while the IAF sources reveal to media that PAF missed the targets. Truth: ISPR version is true as PAF only wanted to demonstrate its ability of Precision bombing in response to IAF's action a day earlier.
Part 2, 27th Feb 2019: In another Sector on LoC, 2 PAF F-16s were engaged in a BVR duel with 2 IAF Su-30 MKIs. F-16s launched at least 2 AMRAAMs and went cold. Su-30 MKIs in response tried to launch R-77s but could not get the lock on due to being out ranged. Hence Su-30MKIs decided to take evasive measures and went cold.
Result: AMRAAM successfully locked on to SU-30s from the maximum stand-off range while the R-77 could not. Since AIM-120Cs were fired from their maximum stand off range, the possibility of a kill against a super maneuverable Aircraft like Su-30 is next to zero. As a result no Su-30s were shot down, the ISPR claim of shooting an IAF Su-30 MKI is untrue.
Part 3: As the package comprising F-16s, JF-17s and Mirage III was making its way back after dropping LGM, 2 Mig-21 Bison rose from under the Pir Panjal range and made a dash towards the 2 F-16s who were at behind escorting the package. Since the Mig-21s rose under the cover of Pir Panjal range, they did not appear on the Pakistani ground radar picture until the very late when they had gotten very close to the F-16s. One Mig-21 which was ahead of the other flown by IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthman chose to pursue one F-16 which was at the very behind of the PAF retreating package. While the other Mig-21 chose not to pursue and made a dash back. Within moments Mig-21 got close enough to lock one F-16 on its WVR R-73 missile, fired it and turned. At the same time, one of the other F-16s which was flying a little ahead was directed from the Ground flight controller to turn back and engage the Mig-21 which had come dangerously close to the other F-16 in a tail chase. F-16 turned back and fired its BVR AIM-120C at Mig-21. In the following moments WVR R-73 missile hit an F-16 and as the Mig-21 was turning back got hit by an AIM-120C fired from another F-16. Both Aircraft went down in a vicinity of each other.
Result: IAF lost one Mig-21 Bison and PAF lost one F-16. There were some reports in Indian media as to why the Mig-21 flown by Abhinandan did not turn back early enough as was directed from the Ground flight controller and instead chose to pursue an F-16 across the LoC. The reports alluded to the Radio link being jammed by the PAF Aircraft resulting into Abhinandan not being able to listen to the directions of the flight controller. While the reports could have been taken at the face value had the other Mig-21 also did not turn back and chose to remain in a hot pursuit which clearly was not the case. So, It's obvious that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthman displayed indiscipline and recklessness resulting into the loss of Mig-21 which was shot down and led to the capture of pilot.
Final Conclusion: ISPR may have initially denied using F-16 on 27th Feb but a couple of weeks later published a press release on its website issuing a statement which among other things had a sentence "PAF, in an act of self defence used all its Air assets." This sentence in the press release made an inference of an indirect admission about using F-16s. On the other hand, for IAF, the failure of R-77 against AIM-120 came out as a big setback. But it could be an equally big headache for PAF too as the PL-12 BVR missile that PAF uses for its JF-17 fleet is nothing but the Chinese cousin of the Russian R-77.
PS: The PL-15 that gets mentioned in this video is nothing but a scarecrow. It's not actually a BVR weapon in the true sense of the word. It's just an Air launched cruise missile designed for use against Large and slow moving Air targets such as AWACS and Tankers. Against fast, agile and combat sized aircraft, it is a dud and of no use.

Here we go again ... Please, Bhaartis, get a clue - war is not only about money. War simplified is about how much funding you have your military but on the actual battlefield, it's more about the people fighting. In this case, you were in the wrong. You have been torturing Kashmiris for 70+ years and every now and then, they take revenge against you. You falsely accused Pakistan and tried to take your frustration with Kashmiris desire to be separated from you out on Pakistan and you were humiliated. In Feb 2019, you had superior technology and a larger air force, due to 5 - 6 times greater funding than Pakistani Air Force, and still, Pakistan fought you evenly, approximately, with the minor victory of capturing your pilot, causing you great local and international humiliation. You can buy all the expensive jets you can get your hands on but it won't tip any scale - you are in the wrong and will lose again, this time with greater losses, InshaaAllaah.
