      @@drugfreebobbyIt's a web app. It works on basically any device on the planet that comes with a modern web browser. Whether or not it will run good depends on what browser you use and how new your device is. An iPhone 13 should be more than powerful enough to play everything in at least the free tier, especially if you use Chrome or Brave or any other Chromium based browser. Safari should work as well, but won't be as fast.

      And my very normally priced phone easily runs stuff like Genshin with very acceptable performance, it's pretty crazy.
      I thought I'd have to shell out like a 1000 bucks to be satisfied, but for the occasional supplementary gaming session on my balcony etc., this is incredible value and convenience.
      I just wish phones came with power and volume buttons in places where they'd serve as gamepad buttons so you don't need a peripheral as much, I'm surprised they haven't leaned into that as much with the rise of games such as the aforementioned Genshin.
      I also miss the popularity of the mechanism present in PSP Go etc., makes the phone thicker and complicates cooling, but I'd get tons of use out of a panel that has a gamepad and an actual keyboard I can feel.

    Another thing to consider is that when the EU also forces Apple’s hand to allow sideloading apps, retroarch is a perfect solution for the iPhone. What’s cool is if you sideload on iOS, you get pretty close to how many consoles android can work good performance. You talking about switch emulation is interesting because iOS now has a switch emulator that’s a port of yuzu. Since iPhones don’t have as much ram as androids. Really the 15 pro and above can only run switch with its 8gb ram. The app is called sudachi and it’s in its infancy and is not even a month old yet so it has problems currently but is getting better. I was able to atleast run Mario odyssey at a ok frame rate but crashes at opening door or beating boss because of hitting a memory limit which might be a memory leak of some kind. iPads with 8gb ram and above can run it too. I belive that started on m1 devices.

    I think it would be a good thing for apple to be more involved as a gaming platform. They certainly have powerful enough hardware. It's just a completely different infrastructure to the x86 stuff like windows and most consoles. And that takes it's own dedicated development time and development staff that know how to work on that. Arm64 is basically going to have to prove it can consistently run anything that can boot up on x86 and likely have some sort of emulation of x86, if that is even a possibility (I have an extremely basic and miniscule understanding of CPU architecture so this is as best as I understand the landscape), so development can be a smoother process all around and that can entice more development for Arm64 based hardware.

    It's funny how Apple is now trying to entice game development on their platform when gaming was new the devs wanted to develop on Mac but Apple thought it was beneath them/not worthwhile or something. MicroSoft invited game development on their OS and people often cite that as the reason why Windows became the dominant OS in the market.

    Theres a new version of the Backbone that supports cases. It comes wirh magnetic attachments that you can swap to use with and without cases. The packaging doesnt look any different, but you'll know its the new version if it says v2 near rhe SKU. Also, it should specifically say 2nd generation in online retailer's product description. Otherwise, its probably rhe older version.

    also worth noting that at 3:20 you should put the topside (camera) of the iPhone into the backbone first rather than the USB-C so you don't damage the USB-C header :D
    This is most important for the ProMax version!
    10:07 if you buy a Backbone USB-C now it comes with the firmware (I know you mention it a minute later, but just incase anyone clicks off). It also has support for cases, with a hotswappable adapter in the box. (Which isn't mentioned)

    You can run apps like this natively on an iPhone without jailbreaking it but you would have to use a sideloader like scarlet with no pc or on sideloadly with a pc. Both of these options aren’t great because you can only have a certain amount of time until you have to redownload the app. You can run the NES all the way up to the nds for free and no ads. There is also dolphin emulator but you would need a jailbreak for jit support 😐

    • @voteDC
      @voteDC Před 5 měsíci +1

      You don't need to redownload the app. If Sideloadly is running it refreshes the apps automatically over wifi, with no loss of games or data. You can also enable JIT without jailbreaking but to be fair it doesn't work on the latest versions of iOS.
