Inside a Saudi Date Store!

- Today we visited the one and only Al-Jawhara date store in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Mr. Abdul was kind enough to show us around his store and tell us a little bit about the pricing and origin. Dates come from (you could've guessed) the Date Palm tree and grow mostly in warmer climates at temperatures around the mid 90s (Fahrenheit).
Towards the end Mr. Abdul gives us a quick run down of how to make classic Arabic coffee with ingredients such as Cardamom, Qassim, Arabica Beans, Cloves, and Saffron. All these mixed together give you a true taste of the middle east - and all that's missing is some Saudi Arabian dates... and he sells them!

we have like 200+ varieties of dates
they differe based on:
1- type
2- region of production
3- stage of ripening
4- after-production processing (compressed v.s non compressed or dry v.s slimy)
note: compressed dates neutrally produces molasses and has sticky texture.
my 2 personal favourites:
1- compressed Khlass from Hassa town: tastes like toffee
2- ripe non compressed Sukari from Qassim region: tastes like carmel (this one has to be stored in fridge)

I love dates. Dates are a big industry in KSA. I used to traveled to the Middle East and almost all of the date products I saw were from Saudi. Now they have chocolate covered dates, and some are stuffed with almonds and other nuts. Great stuff. Here in California we have dates, too, but not the wide varieties you see here in the videos. Dates are a good source of fiber.

Sesame sauce we make taheni with it and hale is cardamon. The pomegranate syrup we make a lot of things with like salads and we put some in dolma stuffing. I like all the stuff that they are selling in this store ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Im eating dates from turkey right now and its the best i have ever tasted... so fresh , like super candy , buttery , sticky softness
When I lived in Kuwait City, I often went the bazaar near the Avenues Mall and you could buy these dates by the truckload. Always imported from Saudi Arabia and they were amazing!
We grow dates in Kuwait but usually it’s so little that the people that have the palm trees on their land consume it personally, however if you were to go to local supermarkets, there’s always a date section and they should have some dates that were grown locally
Khalas is very very sweet. Remember more the honey taste than the caramel taste. Here in Brazil there are no date plantations. The only dates we can buy at public markets are medjool and deglet noor.
I’ve never had a date. I need to add this to my list of things to eat. This video was a big help in choosing.

I wish can try all the dates that he has shown. i usually get the majool dates from the grocery store, and they are ok.But I would like the try the dates that is in the store. I liked the videos and hope to see more. TN
I feel both persons have very pleasant voices. Alhumdulillah
remmeber before buying (these are tips from experts):
1\ pick ones of this years harvest.
2\ best dates are from Al-qassim region because there they have very strict quality standers for Dates.
3\ avoid dates with redish color as they have a harsh tast and low quality, unless the variety is red by nature.
4\ ask him, if he knows, from which stage of harvest these dates are picked, the begging, the middle or the end of season, and opt for the middle since the middle is the best harvest then comes the beginning and lastly the end of season. anything beforethe middle of august isn't that good.
5\ the best dates are the ones with thine skin, and not too soft and not too hard texture, something like turkish delight, and have a color which like blondish deep brown. it shouldn't have a harsh tast on palate and if compressed should have crystalized sugar (and that's something to die for).

I eat a lot of dates. I use to buy larabars but since i found a little Saudi Arabia store i buy fresh dates or packaged in a container. No cookies or cakes just fresh natural dates. ( Hey that rhymes) 😊
