No commentry for this one. I spent the day at Duxford Airshow so in this video some footage of the Sally B B17 and the Lancaster, followed by the Spitfire Big Wing flight. As a bones, we were invited to sit in a Spitfire. An opportunity not to be missed!

Very interesting!🤩...where else could we witness such an amass of present day wwII history !Would love to be there!... Who gets to fly these planes ?... is it the military or are they privately owned ?

I believe they are either privately owned or at least owned by heritage aircraft organisations (like the Shuttleworth Collection)

Awesome seeing those fighter planes flying in formation! (opinion) The B17 was a great bomber but not a match for the Lancaster! “She was built . . “ strange how these planes take the female pronoun? Thanks for great video !

They all looked amazing flying together! Do you think the planes were referred to as “she” because the pilots named them after wife’s and girlfriends?

I was stationed in England for 3 years at RAF Alconbury and loved every minute of the time I spent in England. However, to say the B-17 was no "match" for the Lancaster is insulting.

Yes, possibly - I guess they also “loved” the planes that that took them into battle and brought them safely back, and the crews had a special relationship with their aircraft.

The comment (as stated) was a personal opinion. That opinion was based on the Lancaster having a far bigger payload and the strength to also carry bombs the size of the Tall Boy and Grand Slam. The Lancaster could conduct altitude bombing and also low flying operations (e.g. Dambusters) while the B17 was a high altitude bomber. Both planes contributed to defeating Nazi Germany and both have their place in history. I accept people will have different opinions.

@@stevesp38 I believe they are two very special aircraft with one goal in sight…defeat nazi germany I love them both I think the chap meant payload but like I said to me they are both awesome I was amazed at Duxford how quiet the B17 was in flight over our Lancaster it was literally whispering along amazing. 🇬🇧❤💪🏻🇺🇸 keep well my US friend 🤟🏻
