I visited Guadalajara a week ago. While there I walked a lot. Twice, out of the blue, a person on the street shouted “gringo” at me. I’m 6’3, blue eyes and was wearing shorts (I didn’t see many men in shorts while in Guadalajara). Oddly, I’m Hispanic. My parents were Puerto Rican, I was born in Mexico. Go figure. I must walk like a gringo. I’ve lived in the US all my life.
Hola. :) I live in Guadalajara. They are happy, friendly, and love many things the Gringos have produced. Most prominently, the music!! 🎵🎵 I would think shouting "gringo" was more of a compliment than a put down. And yes, usually only the tourists wear shorts... Mexicans and Foreigners alike. I hope you have a wonderful visit!!
Thank you for sharing. It feels like you are just being in life with life. So happy for you. I'm going returning for a visit in Mexico early next year to look for places to live.
Spring became Summer, Summer became fall, and winter. And there are many fat cows and even fat deer because everything is so green (this is not every year, unfortunately). But rain every single afternoon is not normal, but people/animals benefit from it.
Hi. So enjoying your videos. . Are you still at Alexa and Henry's? I'm trying to keep your travels straight. Im so intrigued and impressed by your sense of courage and adventure. What area of mountains is this? And did it ever get warm enough to wear shorts and tank top? I have so many questions lol. Love your dogs. How old is Shephard? And is your 1 year old a bernese?
Yes he is. He just turned one year old yesterday! My girl Olive is about 5 years old. Least that's what they told me when I adopted her. Tho I just noticed her teeth are wearing away. Maybe she's older? We will be staying at Alex's for a few months I think. So far, it's not gotten warm enough for shorts AT ALL. Ha ha but it's great for the dogs and I can go to the beach any time. Thanks for your comment!

If you have a house built, be careful what archetict you use. I live in a fairly nice neighborhood on a hillside. A gringo friend of mine, had a house built in another part of the barrio. We have city sewage and drainage hookup here. And part of the deal for him was to connect to this system. He went back to the States for awhile leaving the architect to build the house. A few years later, the gringo discovered that there was some difficulty connecting to the sewer system which would need to cross other private property. So, the archetict put in a make shift septic system! Unbeknownst to the owner! Another very nice, expensive, large house was built on a property at the edge of the barrio. At the time, the sewer system had not caught up to the location. So, a legitimate septic system was put in. Except, I noticed it was on a property across the street. Seemed like a problem to me. So, I enquired of the HOA as to who owned that property and would it be a problem in the future. The HOA consulted the engineer who originally built the development and was assured there was no problem. Not too long after that, the real owner of the septic property decided to do construction work there. The septic system has been totally demolished and black water is now flowing into the small canyon next to the development! The person renting the property now, admitted it was not legal, but no one has ever come to check it out! It has been about 6 months!

Another awesome video. I'm so glad you are happy! I can tell how relieved, astonished and grateful you are. That's so great to see. Is it OK to communicate with you as a friend?
I am Mexican, and while having lived most of my life in California, I’m still qualified to comment, from the perspective of a Mexican, who is allowed to critique Mexico, while IN Mexico. Only MEXICANS! From your vibe, I very much doubt YOU will get anything but love from my paisanos! 😁🙏
Another great video. As my wife and I research retiring to Mexico we often find "paid consultants" or "transitional consultants" on CZcams. I'm sure you've seen them. Some have some great informative videos. I was wondering how did you prepare and research moving to Mexico before your exploratory trip?
I’ve loved Mexico for many years, and have been here on vacations. I watched a lot of CZcams videos and researched online about renting, safety, driving etc.. I had an exceptionally easy time with getting a temp residency visa, unless you count the four hour drive there and back to the consulate 😉
Thank you for your reviews of Mexico cities. I’m contemplating about moving there so these are very helpful. Are there a lot of dogs barking and roosters crowing in the towns you stay at? Also are all the businesses loud with music. That would really bother me. Have you considered other countries in South and Central America? Why limit yourself to Mexico?
I'm listening to roosters crowing right now out in the country. There is noise, but it usually doesn't bother me. I did consider Uruguay and Costa Rica, but I needed to bring my big dogs and that meant driving. Also Mexico has a unique culture and great food! I've been to Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama and Brazil. I like Costa Rica but it's become too expensive.
what's the lake in the background? Patzcuaro? lovely! do you ever get lonely on your travels? are you planning to settle down somewhere? I'm worried about my dog being scared of the fireworks when we come....
No, I don't get lonely. I am planning to settle somewhere, now in Patzcuaro, later maybe somewhere else. There's nothing to do about fireworks. It's both delightful, and scary for the dogs. Actually, my other dog isn't bothered at all.
Hello Mora, thank you for sharing your experience (as a single woman moving to Mx). Are you there on a visa or ? A video on how you are staying there, if you are permanently relocating and how? Would be great! Pura Vida! 🎉
Hi I really enjoyed your video. I use a all natural drops that I buy from from my veterinarian. A few drops before a storm the dog will calm down and sometimes fall asleep. There are several varieties you can buy them at petsmart. They are very inexpensive.
I just found you and subscribed. I have been looking to move to Chiapas, Mexico for a few years now. Still working and saving my money. Have you been to Chiapas? Did you have any issues with the water there? Shaving, brushing your teeth, bathing, drinking, and cooking with the water?
I've heard of some sort of coats for dogs to help calm them in thunderstorms. Maybe Amazon has them or a vet would know what they are called? I wish I could help you more. Beautiful dogs.
Sierra Madre del Sur, in Michoacan. But I was in the highlands in Mexico State and it was also cool (not sure if that's the same mountain range). Both locations above 6000 ft.
Is understood what you said about some bad apples, but it does not compare to the apple trees from the US., It is a said in Mexico ., In a Country you visiting do what they do!., So many come and want to change other people home? that will never be accepted by the people that open the door in welcome. with lots of love from Mexico. ❤
Real estate agents in Mexico are not required to be licensed in most states. Be careful! When I bought my property, I had some advice. You need to acquire the services of a special lawyer called a Notario. These lawyers know the real estate laws and do much of the work that a licensed agent would do in the US. They give you official paperwork which gives you guarantees that the property is free and clear, for instance. The "Real Estate" agent for the seller advised me not to use a notario and save some money. No thanks, I went to a recommended notario and have had no problems!
HELLO, NICE VIDEO, they make thunder shirts for dogs-and calms them down a lot-I have them for my 2 Great Danes- in Florida we have lots of storms and they work, looking at Lake Chapala area trying to find bigger land, love the temps there -but the small lots with the block walls surrounding me is just to tight, are they having any water supply problems there ,I dont want to have to ship water in by trucks-Mexico City is having big problems, cheers
Great video! I hate the storms in Central Mexico! Loud and scary! I use Charles Schwab and love it, but you have to be in the States, have a US address and phone number to open an account.
Hi Mora! I have been "following" your trips for a while... I am a Mexican-American (Dual Citizenship) retiring soon. I have seen (mostly online) the "new generation" (young) posting "not so nice" comments on CZcams... These people are mainly "Keyboard Warriors" that in Mexico (and many parts of the world) are very active spreading a bit of frustration, and at times, they can be hateful. There is a growing "sentiment" in many countries about foreigners purchasing properties and when foreigners pay a higher amount when purchasing or renting, the markets tend to suffer gentrification. It does not hapoen in every city or town and I am positive it mostly happens in certain neighborhoods... Spain complaining of tourists for a while, has "echoed" a bit in Mexico and South America. Don't worry... You and "your kids" will be fine in Mexico. Personally, a couple of months away from selling my home in Houston and moving to Mexico City and then seasonal move to area south of Puerto Vallarta. Best Regards! - Ricardo
We're one of the most welcoming people all over the world... "Hostility" is not free or undeserved. We hate bossy rednecks who think that they're somehow better... American immigration is welcome, Karens and uneducated racists, are not
What? Have you ever tried it? It’s been going very well. They are my companions and just because Olive has to endure thunder, I would never leave them behind.
I have one grown son. We take turns visiting each other and now that I'm in Mexico I hope he'll visit soon. I also plan to go to California in the next few months. I miss him!
I was looking into Mexico but the Visa's require me to have a higher income than I have. I manage very well lin Phoenix but only because I own my home. I was wondering how you have been able to stay in Mexico.
I qualified financially. Every year the requirements become higher, so I say, if you qualify and you want to, do it now. Because later the requirements may be even higher. If I didn’t have the dogs I would have gone to SE Asia, where it’s less expensive to live. There are wonderful places there. I’m glad you’re doing well in Phoenix. Having owned real estate and being frugal are the reasons why I’m able to be here.
Thank you for your response. Your dogs are so sweet. I had a dog that would get so scared and would shake and pant during storms. She did better in a bath tub with her bedding and me sitting next to her What helped the most was melatonin given at the begin of a storm. After awhile she always fell asleep. You might check online how much is appropriate for your shepherd.
I will, thank you. She also likes the walk-in shower. lucky tonight we’ve had no thunder so she’s had a break. Thanks for your comment. Lem me know if you stay in Phoenix or try somewhere else.
Many reasons. I've had wonderful experiences here on vacations, I love the culture and food. The Mexicans I've met are good people. I can drive from the States, making it easier to take my 2 dogs. The cost of living is less than where I'm from. Adventure!
Mora, (2:45) you mentioned something about “a notorious example of foreigners behaving badly.” You didn’t reference any specific example. Nonetheless, the only specific case I’m aware of is one case in Puerto Vallarta concerning an American couple that filed a lawsuit against Gaby’s Restaurant “citing breaches of noise regulations.” “In October 2023, the Vallarta city council agreed and ordered Gaby’s Restaurant to stop playing both live and recorded music after acting on a ruling issued by a state administrative court.””Though Gaby’s owner, Julio Castillon, filed an injunction and won a reprieve to play background music, he has still not been allowed to live music for diners.” I have to ask: “HOW is asking your neighbors to abide by the relevant laws of your government “behaving badly”?! Moreover, because Mexico is uniquely situated between Latin America and North America, I believe it disingenuous to suggest Mexican culture is somehow unique from Canada or the United States, much less unique from its Latin American neighbors. Personally, I’m confident that our neighbors in North America and Latin America has far more in common than not. At our core is and must be our individual and collective adherence to established law. Any other behavior would be considered “behaving badly.”
I talked about exactly that case. Interesting you knew that without seeing that part of the video. If you don't understand what's wrong with that situation I can't help you.
@@MoraMargaret , I appreciate that. However, the “foreigners”, not the owner of Gaby’s restaurant, were abiding by local laws. The city and the administrative court agreed with the foreigners that Gaby’s restaurant was “behaving badly.” Nonetheless, I do appreciate your travel philosophy, and your fearlessness! 👍👍
I appreciate that, thank you. The city and administrative court are not necessarily speaking for the people, and that’s why so many came out in support for Gaby’s. If you required quiet why buy a property in that area? Because you think your preferences are more important, that’s why. But they are disturbing a local system that has been happy and functioning for decades. Not cool.
The Mexican authorities should laugh the property owners out of their office in Puerto Vallarta. Hopefully they aren’t US citizens because when I was in PV there was already a hidden bad feeling towards us. I was lucky enough to get to be there with a bunch of Canadians. So it did come out. But I love PV and would definitely go back. Lawsuit! That makes me mad. Thanks for sharing your most beautiful morning with us. Your a lucky lady ❤
Mora, That situation really is not unique to citizens of the United States living in Mexico. Mexican citizens living in the United States are known for the same cultural faux pas. Only difference is; they know better!
I’m sorry you had nasty comments but you should think that there is always an uneducated and intolerant people that they are not happy with their lives.

Right? Would be nice if people would do the same when they come to America

I am 60+ and also planning to go back to Mexico. I was born there but studied and worked in the US all my life. I am from the southern part of Mexico(Veracruz). It is even cheaper to live down there. Not many Americans around like in the northern states. I can't wait to move back there. I love the US but my retirement will go double down there. I will spend 100usd here but only 50usd in Mexico, not bad!
@@C_Bor ,
I spent three weeks in Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico. That is where I fell in love with traditional Mexico! I stayed at Hotel Lois where I swear, I must have been the only foreigner staying there.
Everyday, I walked the Malcom to the seafood restaurants on the beach where I became addicted to fish tacos, cold beer and beautiful families enjoying their lives.
Viva La Mexico!🇲🇽

@@cwisaac22 thanks for the positive feedback. Many years ago, when I lived in Puerto Rico, my teenage years, the word was an insult.
“I must walk like a gringo” I’ve heard similar in many countries. We must walk a certain recognizable way. For better or worse that’s the way we are.
That’s so kind!
There are tall, fair-skinned Mexicans in Jalisco, so it must be the shorts and your overall demeanor.
❤Nice video enjoy Mexico I will be back sometime 🎉🎉
I grew up in Burbank, Ca thinking Mexico was all like Tijuana. Later I was lucky enough to work two years in Guadalajara and two years in Mexico City. I also traveled extensively. Boy was I wrong. Mexico is amazing and only getting better.

@@MoraMargaret Thanks!

Great tip! I wonder if it's ok to give them often. We're getting daily thunder here.
Liquid melatonin works well for my pitty. Even when there are fireworks.
Thank you. I will check that out 🙂
I just found you and subscribed. I have been looking to move to Chiapas, Mexico for a few years now. Still working and saving my money. Have you been to Chiapas? Did you have any issues with the water there? Shaving, brushing your teeth, bathing, drinking, and cooking with the water?
Sorry, I've never been to Chiapas. I'd love to though. Good luck!
I've heard of some sort of coats for dogs to help calm them in thunderstorms. Maybe Amazon has them or a vet would know what they are called? I wish I could help you more. Beautiful dogs.

- Ricardo
Thanks Ricardo! I think you are right about all of that.
The hostility towards foreigners are definitely growing in México, lots of them are too entitled.
We're one of the most welcoming people all over the world... "Hostility" is not free or undeserved. We hate bossy rednecks who think that they're somehow better... American immigration is welcome, Karens and uneducated racists, are not
It is their house so to speak,..but in the bigger picture, we are all just a guest on this space rock referred to as Earth...
Traveling with two big dogs. Not recommended...
maybe board them or leave thrm with friends? 🙂
What? Have you ever tried it? It’s been going very well. They are my companions and just because Olive has to endure thunder, I would never leave them behind.
Also do you have kids? If yes, how do you manage being away from them, etc:).
Also, if you can afford to live in Phoenix you can make it in many other places, I think.
@@MoraMargaret yes and I love your youtube updates. Looking forward.
Why did you decide to go to Mexico?
Many reasons. I've had wonderful experiences here on vacations, I love the culture and food. The Mexicans I've met are good people. I can drive from the States, making it easier to take my 2 dogs. The cost of living is less than where I'm from. Adventure!
Mora,
(2:45) you mentioned something about “a notorious example of foreigners behaving badly.”
You didn’t reference any specific example.
Nonetheless, the only specific case I’m aware of is one case in Puerto Vallarta concerning an American couple that filed a lawsuit against Gaby’s Restaurant “citing breaches of noise regulations.”
“In October 2023, the Vallarta city council agreed and ordered Gaby’s Restaurant to stop playing both live and recorded music after acting on a ruling issued by a state administrative court.””Though Gaby’s owner, Julio Castillon, filed an injunction and won a reprieve to play background music, he has still not been allowed to live music for diners.”
I have to ask: “HOW is asking your neighbors to abide by the relevant laws of your government “behaving badly”?!
@@MoraMargaret ,
I appreciate that. However, the “foreigners”, not the owner of Gaby’s restaurant, were abiding by local laws. The city and the administrative court agreed with the foreigners that Gaby’s restaurant was “behaving badly.”
Nonetheless, I do appreciate your travel philosophy, and your fearlessness!
Not cool.
Where are you living now Mora? The weather sounds wonderful....

I am, thank you!
Is Spanish one of them?
PS... whatever happened to Gaby's in Puerto Vallarta? Sure hope the newbies lost!
Last I heard it was still on-going. But the neighborhood, locals as well as foreigners, have come out to demonstrate and support Gaby's.
Spanish is hard to learn because it is a synthetic language rather than an analytical language like Ingles.

Mora,
That situation really is not unique to citizens of the United States living in Mexico.
Mexican citizens living in the United States are known for the same cultural faux pas.
Only difference is; they know better!
I’m not sure about that, but a faux pas is to be forgiven. It’s not intentional, and that really matters.
I’m sorry you had nasty comments but you should think that there is always an uneducated and intolerant people that they are not happy with their lives.
True.
