Clyde River

On July 26, thanks to the persistent efforts of Jerry Natanine and the people of Clyde River, the Supreme Court of Canada quashed the National Energy Board’s five-year seismic testing project of Baffin Bay and Davis Strait. When we visited this community of about 1,000 people on the East coast of Baffin Island, we were touched by the warm welcome we received and inspired by their commitment to protect the land. We spoke to Jerry, the former mayor of Clyde River, about this issue during our visit - have a look.

Lorsque nous avons visité cette communauté de moins de 1000 personnes, nous avons été touchés par l'accueil chaleureux que nous avons reçu et inspirés par leur engagement à protéger le territoire. Le 26 juillet, grâce aux efforts persistants de Jerry Natanine et de la population de Clyde River, la Cour suprême du Canada a annulé le projet quinquennal d'essais sismiques de l'Office national de l'énergie de Baffin Bay et du détroit de Davis. I'm from the other side of Baffin Bay .. always wondered who was 'over there' - I do have many close relatives throughout Nunavut - Glad I found this video :)

I was messing about with my steam profile and wanted to go as far north (for a steam profile location badge) through Canada and it got me here. This is quite the first peek into what goes on there. I hope life is well for them, bless their hardy hearts.

Congratulations, Jerry and the people that stood strong behind you. I may have known or met your grand father. I was in Clyde in 1967.
We landed at the Cape Christian military base, then a RCMP escorted me to the settlement by canoe, through heavy ice. End of July.
This was a tough ride, an experience that remains in my mind forever. I was the radio link with the civilization and a weather observer at the time, before the satellites era.
