My Ferrari 458 Speciale - The Car I Regret Selling The Most!

  • This is the story of my Ferrari 458 Speciale, the car that I regret selling the most, but not necessarily for the reasons you may first think! The Ferrari 458 Special is a near 600hp mid-engined V8 Supercar that became the last naturally aspirated V8 that Ferrari would ever make! Not only was the Speciale a fantastic drivers car but it will also go down in supercar history as a poignant moment in Ferrari's story and it is a car that became one of my personal all time favourite cars...

I'm a small-time collector lucky enough to own two of them and will never let go of either till the day that I die.
It was never the fastest car but it certainly stirs up the most emotion in me every time I turn on the ignition. Every car enthusiast has that one car that triggered him/her into loving cars and the NSX was the one that did it for me ever since its debut in 1990. Back then I was still a kid nowhere near old enough to obtain a driver's license and have had posters of the NSX all over my bedroom wall.

A 458 (Spider) is the best modern car I have driven, not a Speciale however....but it was sublime and the noise of that V8 just behind my head was sublime.....Lots of cars that I have sold that I have (kind of) regretted selling.....especially my 1983 mid engined 5 Turbo #1099. But I will never sell my E30 M3, apart from all the blood sweat and tears that have gone into it over the years.......as you have said......way too many amazing memories.....taking all around Europe visiting lots of circuits and driving on the Nurburgring etc etc etc.....plus many more amazing times. And yes, looking forward to the end of quarantine....!!!

I had a 14/15 BMW M235i that I bought after I had a great loss in my family and I said “fu** it no need to save money, I can be dead tomorrow” so I bought the car and started to travel a lot, do road trips, go to beaches and mountains, just drive it everywhere and at one of those trips I met the woman that is now my wife. We started a family together, we got a home and unfortunately I had to sell the car because of that but the memories that I have and how happy I am because of that car, in a way, are forever in my mind.

It may sounds silly but when I was a little child we had a VW Jetta 2 and at that time it was a normal car for me but nowadays I'm realizing how special it was due to the things I experienced with it.
But that's the point with car lovers: We all love cars and the experiences we had with them. Some love a Ferrari 458 speciale and other a VW Jetta 2.

  • @ScottLewis123
    @ScottLewis123 Před 4 lety

My 2010 Audi S4, in it's OEM+ state pretty much right before the Mechatronic unit started to fail (at 100k miles) and I bailed out of the car. It was the pefect (to me) one car garage. Big enough to haul the family and luggage round in comfort, whilst having plenty of power for the UK roads (440bhp) and nimble enough to throw about and have fun with. I did 12k miles in the first 6 months of ownership, touring Scotland every weekend. It then led me to meet some of my now best friends on a road trip. There were then many more road trips up and down the country, my favorite being the trip to Skyfall. We went to Porsche in the Glen in the moring, then on that finishing my buddy and me took our cars (he had a Cayman S) up from Glasgow towards Glencoe. The scenery, the cars, the roads, what a day! Even the inestation of miges when we got there couldn't dampen it. We go the classic photos, and then returned to Aberdeenshire, they're still on background rotation now. I have so many fond memories of being in that car, hearing the supercharger and feeling the bost building all the way to red line, shifting, getting the DSG pop from the modified back boxes and going for it again through the next gear. It just egged you on every time you changed up (to the pint it did et me in trouble once, but the Policeman was very nice about it).
Now I have an F30 330d, and let me tell you, it's no fun.
It may not have been a Ferrari or somethin exotic like that, but my experience says it doesn't need to be. Sometimes you're in the right car, sometimes you're in the wrong car, but how you view that car is often down to the exericences you have in it.
I wouldn't know the people I know, or have the job I have without that S4.
So, Ferrari, Nissan, BMW, Ford, whatever it is, get out (after lockdown) and make some memories, drive some epic roads (there's plenty of them in this country) and see what memories you can make with your car. If there's noting there, try again when you change it out. I never thought I'd have so much fun and have so many memories in that S4 - which is essentially just a fast family car.
Also, look outside of the normal for a car, I was single and mid 20's when I basically bought a fast famly car. I had no need for a car that big - but it was the right car at the right time.
Essay over, have fun everyone, and thanks for all the content Mr JWW!

100% agree. Go out there, and use it. I've road tripped my '07 350z to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, italy, sweden and norway over the passed few years. And while i've driven cars that where faster, better looking, and more expensive, nothing makes me smile like my Z. I love it because of the memories I've made in it. I have a 458 italia , not the speciale yet but I agree, I bought it to drive it and retain it because it’s something special. Just balance your usage and it should not lose too much, providing you choose the right car ;). The last of the naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari’s sounded about right to me. Nice content thanks!

Manual 2010 Audi S4 Stage 2, practically rebuilt the car myself and drove it on countless road trips, track days, nights out with friends, a lot of firsts in that thing... If only I hadn't sold it...

Hi JWW. Love the content you provide us with. One tip, when you start doing clips from the studio think about the rule of thirds. Dont put the face and body in the middle. It gets so static. Move the screen down on to the left or right. Also with a high resolution recording you can clip in to a closer frame of you in some of the clips in post.

Great video. I think selling “that car” resonates with so many of us car fans, regardless of what make or model the car was. Thank you for sharing your version. My dream is not necessarily a garage full of cars.... Just one perfect one, with (hopefully) the ability to bring it around to all of the best driving roads in the world... after a happy and healthy family, that is the ultimate personal dream.

Would love to drive my (second) 360! First one was so bad I got a complete refund for it. Second one has given me 8 months of near continuous issues so far. The kind of issues that have left me stranded numerous times, cut all power numerous times, the latest issue being completely random, electric shock-like CELs and misfires. The car also leaks in epic proportions (for a car with only 2 doors), required a new clutch, and has eaten through various sensors, an alternator, stinks of petrol after a full up and has attempted to set fire to itself by burning through one of its heat shields. But yes, the idea of driving it sounds splendid! 😉👌
(and yes, I did get the second car PPId)

Regarding this topic I was actually wondering what cars you own at the moment. Would definitely enjoin a garage update or during lockdown maybe even a garage tour, just if you’re comfortable doing one, but anyways would be interesting to hear wich cars are gone, there and potentially even coming.

Owned a Peugeot RCZ THP200 for 6 years that I today regret selling back in 2018. I didn't really have a reason for selling it other than "I wanted something new". I put 57k km on the clock, but today i kind of wish i did more special stuff with it, as I used it mostly as a daily driver.

That was a brilliant car, remember getting photos of it back in 2018 at Silverstone when Agera RSN turned up then luckily enough had the opportunity to ride in your speciale on track chasing Ollie Webb whilst he was driving an amg gtr , can say to this day one of my favourite cars I’ve had the opportunity of going in. Cheers JWW 😅

I'm not sure I'll ever top my RB320.
The Impreza was the poster car of the 90s so to own 1 of 320 of those things was a privilege.
Alas, I had to sell it when my son was born. There's no time for driving anymore!! Thankfully it's gone to another enthusiast with a slightly older family who can continue to enjoy it.

The content created by doing what you did back then was amongst the very best I’ve seen on any channel, I was a fan well before that but the Dubai content with the Speciale just made you and your channel my personal favourite, hopefully before long we can all get back to doing things like this. Dubai is such an incredible place, I was there in 2010 and saw the most incredible cars including my two favourites together on a photo shoot, the Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion and the Mercedes CLK GTR. God I love cars 😂👍
