I think the real bad writing for that mission is everyone acting like Mirandas sister is a still a child who can't decide for herself if she wants to stay with her family or be with her bio dad instead of the full grown woman she is.
If I recall correctly she's biologically 19, however when she was adopted by Miranda's father he rebuilt her personality. (yes I'm reaching to justify the bad writing)
That's because she is meant to be early underage or, as mentioned by the other commenter around the age of 18-20 years old. Not to mention that Miranda is hella overprotective of her sister. AND we have to keep in mind that BioWare during that era did suck at modelling and implementing real children characters into their games (look at Dragon Age 2s Emporium with the Child!). Much faster and easier to just copy-paste an adult NPC, give it some random clothes and have it treated as "the child" than actually investing resources, animation time and designer time into making a single NPC for a single story mission.
How naive do people actually have to be to think like this? She doesn't have a choice, her genetic father considers her his property...why would he even remotely care about what she wants? That's the whole point of the mission, he's sending mercenaries to KIDNAP her.

Maybe it was DLC in the original that I never got, but the only two options I remember were either the skin-tight classic white jumpsuit, or the skin-tight black leather jumpsuit. It wasn't badly written. The Alternate Appearance Packs DLC just neglected to remove the line if Miranda isn't wearing the same uniform as in the original game.

The only bad writing was the mercenary killing Niket if Shepard dissuades Miranda from doing so. Lazily eliminating the loose end while technically still being a Paragon choice.

Miranda have a nice character development, from the "perfect bitch" to understanding Shepard's advantages over her and why it's not always about "being perfect". But if a "nice ass" is all you can see, well then, jokes on you.
agreed, i tried only having Miranda and Jacob to be dead at the end of ME2 while completing all the loyalty quest, it was the most elaborate scheme i've ever pulled

it's not bad writing. it's game design and lack of attention to detail. I remember how in dragon age 1, if you undressed Alistair before he gives a speech before an audience, he will remark how strange it was that nobody laughed at him even though he gave the speech naked. I was blown away by how good that little detail was. it is very rare in games these days.
It's a good story and writing for what it was back when it came out. Nowadays standards are higher. But at the same time we really don't have any game studios making games like mass effect or witcher.

why is a puny Asari wielding a damn m300 claymore? a gun known for being near impossible for anyone but the strongest to handle? there's a reason why its primarily used by Krogan. i know its about the incredibly stupid comment but i cant stand it when they forget how their own weapons work. That is bad writing aswell! reminds me of that Andromeda cutscene that had a character wield a damn gun backwards.
