I Made the Backrooms into a VR Game!

- I created a VR game that makes them EVEN more terrifying. But how did we get here? According to an old forum post, you can end up in the back rooms by mis-stepping or falling in just the right way causing you to no clip out of reality and into the backrooms.
The backrooms are divided into thousands of levels, and according to this wiki, you’ll most likely find yourself in level 0, codenamed the lobby. It is particularly interesting because it exists in a non Euclidean space, which means that it’s possible to run in one direction for hours and still wind up in the same spot . I figured out a really cool way to code this to completely freak out the players, which I'll explain in a minute, but to start I had to begin by laying out the geometry.

The lore is literally the worst thing about the backrooms. It's like baby's first SCP. Good job on the game though.

@@TJGameDev I'm a big fan of SCP. But that suits the appeal of SCP. The appeal of "the Backrooms" and other "liminal spaces" is how dreamlike, nostalgic and surreal they are. It's the kind of horror that doesn't lend well to the specific over-catagorisation that works for SCP. Plus there are some real duds on the wiki. The skinstealers just entirely based on gore and edginess (which is why I said 'baby's first SCP' because it's written like an SCP if it was a teenager's first attempt at writing one). I like Kanepixel's stuff more than the wiki but even that edges more into sci-fi. It feels like people on the internet didn't really get the original appeal so they just jumped on making it similar to something else that was already popular.
Also - the locomotion system you used for your game is similar to the one I tried to implement in one I'm making - haha. I really like immersion in VR so I love how involved/immersive it is. Is it based on headset position where you swing your arms and it goes where you're looking or is it based on pressing the analogue stick/touch pad in a direction then swinging (so you can strafe)?
