  • I rode from Tokyo to Kyoto with two friends.
    Start: 17th Sep 2018
    End: 1st Oct 2018.
    Our Route: goo.gl/xkUJ8K (follow this at your own risk! We didn't really plan it.. there is probably a far better route with less crazy tunnels).
    Tunes: goo.gl/xhKUZz

    Just wanted to come back and thank you guys for making this video. This inspired me to get into bikepacking and I just got back from my first trip where I did 1000 miles across Japan. You guys lit a fire in me and helped create a new passion that I'll take with me my entire life. Thanks so much

    Very Cool Film!! Loved it. V different from what I expected. Looks like you guys had some fun there. Loved the high 5 scene with the elementary kids. And looking at your map I see you went up by Lake Okutamako which is one of my favorite go to places - I thought I recognized the video footage. Kudos to you all!

    No joke the fact that you guys didn't blab all over the video makes it super awesome. Many travel videos have so much talking...haha! Great job! Also...what camera thingy did you use? Such smooth video :)

    • @JohnBr0
      @JohnBr0  Před 5 lety +20

      dogbutts5000 haha! I agree. Hardly ever talk in my videos for this exact reason. Maybe one day if I have something important to say. This was shot on a go pro 6 attached to my handle bars. The image stabilization is amazing. Japanese roads are also very smooth 😉

      @@JohnBr0 I agree on the blabbing in general but some babbling is ok, actually great for the video if you do it right. Also you guys seemed to have some really fun moments and a great vibe in general. Would have been nice to include some of those moments providing some variation to the music at the same time. The music has to be amazing not to get tiring at some point. Loved it anyway 👍

    Nice! Great video and great tunes with no narrative - love it. Waiting for Japan to re-open and will live there 6 mos of the year. Skiing in the winter and hiking/biking in the fall. What Nav do you use when traveling on smaller roads and pathways? Thanks!

      We used maps.me and google walking routes. Google cycle routes still don’t work out there (I think?!).

    Dude, I did the same 2016! I know exactly what you did! ^^ And more. My route was pretty similar at first: Tokyo, Chichibu, Chino, Matsumoto, Takayama (you missed that beautiful town!, same climb to Hirayu-onsen though), Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa, Mikuni, coastline to Biwa-ko (but I chose Hikone, the eastern side of the lake), Kyoto. After that I moved on to Uji, Nara, Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, back to Kobe, Back to Osaka, Kii peninsula at the coastline to Ise, Nagoya, Shizuoka, Fuji, Hakone, Kamakura, back to Tokyo. But, and thats the truth, I carried my stuff all the way in a travelbag I modified into a backpack on my back. I used a great carbon road bike Hikaru Utadas father bought me after he crashed my previous bike. ^^ Thats also not a joke! It took me 90 days and I experienced alot of great stuff on the way, too, like festivals, great people and breathtaking landscape and culture! I enjoyed the ride like you did!Great seeing people doing the same stupid things like me. ^^

      Haha awesome! Did you make a video? 😁 riding with a back pack doesn’t sound too much fun but you got out there and did it! That’s what counts 😎 where are you heading next!?

      How do you find these routes? I lived in Japan for 10 years in the 1990s but have been back in the US for 20 years. I will retire at the end of this year and move back to Japan and I plan on doing a lot of cycling, but I have to be honest. I really suck at directions and if I tried a long trip like this, I'd probably end up in Burkina Faso or something, unless I had it mapped out for me on a GPS.
