Orchestre Baka Gbine are indigenous Baka hunter-gatherers living in the Cameroon rainforest. Music is central to their traditional beliefs and lives. To be Baka is to be a musician.
Nanga was recorded and filmed in February 2023 by Martin Cradick, then produced by him at The Vortex in UK.
"After hearing this song early in 2022 I wanted to get a recording with just the 4 core players and make a clean recording to help get them live work. I was meaning to release it in the summer and try to get funding to bring the musicians to Europe next year. Sadly Ndia, the percussionist, died in July. This took the wind out of my sails and I stopped working on it, but decided to finish it and let people hear it. I'll be making more Baka recordings available soon.
