Mastered mix from the new album, Kopolo. Out Now!
The Baka musicians from Gbiné have come a long way since the release of their last album Gati Bongo. Whereas none of them had ever performed outside their forest home before Gati Bongo was recorded, since it's release they have toured in UK, Belgium and Holland as well as around Cameroon and Congo. They have formed a tight rhythm section which melds with their polyphonic vocal harmonies to create their own unique style as can be heard on the new recording.
Although there is now keen competition at Gbiné to play in the band, the rhythm section has become a fixed line-up of Sangowé Elvis on drum kit, Ndia Arbitre on percussion, Barma Jean-Marie on bass and Ndeké Norbert on rhythm guitar. Pelembir Dieudonné is still the most prolific of the song-writers and dynamic of the performers, but others are treading on his heels including his son Freddie (who can be seen singing on the video of "Ewoundo". Mbeh Prosper again provides most of the lead guitar with a bit of help here and there from Baka Beyond's Martin Cradick, who also recorded it all on location deep in the rainforest near the Cameroon-Congo border and mixed and produced it at The Vortex in UK.
Although Baka Gbiné have been developing their performance of traditional music and dance, this album is another collection of contemporary guitar based songs guaranteed to get your body moving and your spirits rising. Gati Bongo has been in the iTunes World charts since its release back in 2006. It's sales have helped finance projects set up with the Baka at Gbiné and Global Music Exchange (www.1heart.org) which have really made a difference to the lives and social standing of the Baka. Every time Martin returns to Cameroon to continue work with the Baka he is asked when the next album will be ready. Well here's one track from it!
Am I the only one addicted to this masterpiece? Long life to the Baka people!

Vive l Afrique. Maman . Algeria verry good contry Well com whit Africa
Kamerun is beautiful! baka pride! Bikutsi pride!
it's really amazing how the guitarists never went to any music school, yet are able to play. besides, the lead guitarist is able to reproduce traditional xylophone sounds into a modern guitar.
Cameroon to the world ❤
They are the best musicians in the world. Each of them starts music training from childhood through manhood, practicing almost every single day under' moonlight, when it's not raining. true professionals then. besides collecting fruit hoiney, mushrooms, insects and hunting and fishing, they spend their time playing music and singing every evening. iMy tribe in Kribi, South Cameroon, Kwassio people and other forests people as Fang-beti and Bulu-beti we organise mortuary wake keepings inviting them to perform during whole night, and this was most enjoyment for children to watch when I was a child.
Mélodie immortelle. Nos origines africaines d'abord 🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲💪💪
🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲😭😭😭

J'adore mon AFRIQUE pur musique ❤❤❤❤❤
As a musician, I must recommend this, and pay due compliments to the high wuality and, to me, extremely advanced an sofisticated rhythm. This is a challenge as great and as inspring as anything I have dared open up to so far! I thank you for your existance, and for giving this music to me and the world, on CZcams, for free, if in fact you and not a third party did so. to the amazement and utter joy of millions of music lovers!
I hop all your inspired aspirations will become real, and I wish you peace, harmony and prosperity!
I'm so glad someone committed this music to audio in such a wonderful fashion. The audio is gorgeous. It's almost like really being there.
thanks. Your comment makes the hard work worthwhile
The only unique people that are united in the whole Africa i love baka people ♥️♥️♥️♥️💋🤗💋
They deserve a lot. You describe them perfectly just through this video..calm...shy..nice and kind so peaceful people. I have been acquainted to them since my childhood in kribi, South cameroon rain forest...we have been exploiting them for our evening celebrations..deaths rituals and weddings and yet depriving them of our common land.
Much respect for my brothers different sound 🤙🏾✊🏾
that groove is infectious
Milles merci ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Peace & Love to ALL my melanated brothers & sisters all across the planet 👑 I Love African polyphony music. It has become my new preference 👍🏾💪🏾✊🏾💯💜
I loooove the idea of a base drum by just stomping a stick against a tree.
The Baka people. An original people now forgotten living in isolation with their ancient knowledge in their DNA. I have not just enjoyed the rhythm, I have learnt that no matter your circumstances, no matter where you are living, what you know is forever yours. Baka will be Baka.
For the musicians here, I wonder if they are feeling the rhythm in 3 or in 9/8 (5+4)…
What a joyful amazing piece, played by people who suffer a lot of discrimination! Viva the Baka!
I think they feel in it 3. Nearly all their traditional music is terniary with either 3 or 4 sets of triplets, sometimes both at the same time!

That's poly rhythm. I don't even know how the person dancing finds a beat to dance when there's so many.
Ok a few familiar faces on here....who in this world can declare to have played the buttress of a tropical hardwood tree in a band. "What instrument do you play?"
"Buttress. Mainly"
"Cool"
God bless you brothers me Haitian
These guys are amazing ,
Protecting our forest is saving this legacy..we should
I like this music a lot and first heard Baka women's polyphonic singing in 1970. We live together in the Southern, Southeastern part of Cameroon.
why is this music not popular!! very beautiful effort and song.
@parlonsdetout2285 their music might not be popular, but the beat actually is. this beat is nothing else but the Bikutsi music of the forest people of Cameroon; from the center south and East of Cameroon.
Love it! I'm from PNG in pacific island
This music "connects" to my "caribbean soul". . .this is the music of my ancestors. . .we "feel" this music!! We do not understand the language. . .but we have ALWAYS known that beat/sound!!
it"s from Central Africa, South Cameroon rain forest...Pygmee people..
@sterlinggardiner489 this music is called Bikutsi. it's a beat from the forest people of Cameroon.
I miss Cameroon so so much
Thank you You tube and Baka Beyond that I get to experience this music before I die! I would have died a lesser person if I hadn't. Words cannot even express what this gift has done to me! Thank you, thank you, thank you. All I can say is that the Music plays these Musicians and not the other way round.....especially the rhythm guitarist...he just allows the music to go through him...its wonderful to behold!!
Cameroon❤❤❤❤
I love this song than the owners. Keep it up Baka, I love you all despite not knowing exactly the country you are all from
O berço da humanidade !!! African's LIVE
I am addicted to baka music since 80s when I knew the Musée de L'Homme records from the Bà-Benzele. Tks for support and spread all over the world this "hidden treasure of mankind." (Louis Sarno, in Bayaka)
A simplicidade da música me encanta tanto!

That's a really thick polyrhythm. Deceptively complex music, sounds simple and beautiful but has a lot going on. Great natural flow to this music. Loved it
From Kenya, I don't understand but like the beats
