My mother is an attorney and part-time judge. I can tell you with all certainty that lawyers are 100% affected by the things that they are forced to defend. Lawyers don’t get a choice, they must defend their client no matter how heinous the crime and how obvious the guilt. It is their legal obligation, and failing to do so could land them without a license

The other drugs he was on were valium (diazepam) and xanax (alprazolam). Both are benzodiazepines and have sedative side effects as well as lowering respiration, pulse, and blood pressure. I had a father who was creepy around kids. I've never got it. Sure, if someone's running around in a bikini, you're probably going to look, but once your brain registers that you're looking at a kid, your first instinct should be to look away and find a consenting adult to gawk at. There are cases, rare ones, where the girl looks like a 20 year old and she isn't, but in every one of these cases, they knew the "girl" was underage and many of them were sent pictures that strongly suggested they weren't talking to an adult. None of these situations were "mistakes." Usually the age of the person they were trying to meet was stated multiple times in the chat. Every single one of those guys specifically sought out girls who were well under the age of consent and once they established that, they started talking dirty. Guys need to start taking a hint from James Bond in For Your Eyes Only: "Yes, well, you get your clothes on and I'll buy you an ice cream." Even James Bond didn't mess with kids.

She goes insane with rage, burns her place down (she was probably on the verge of being evicted), breaks in and steals the neighbor's stash so they couldn't sell to anyone else, and then burns their place down. These people need to realize that when they choose to act on this and they get exposed, there's never any option to return to normal again. Having done work with a similar company that baits predators, but was only done on a volunteer basis, people doing that deserve pay. It's stressful, time consuming and honestly traumatizing. You need therapy on the side and even with therapy the burnout rate is incredibly high because of the horrifying stuff you encounter, hear and are forced to say back in order to string along a predator. I lasted longer than most I was working alongside because I had a stronger ability to compartmentalize, but even that had its limits.
The sad thing is, if you have the empathy needed to care about kids enough to do this kind of work (especially volunteer basis), you are more susceptible than average to the traumatizing stuff you'll see. Lots of CSA survivors would try it to stop anyone else from getting hurt like themselves but that meant they were always on a hair trigger for falling apart if they saw or heard the wrong thing.

Lastly, in my opinion, i think that his wife knew. How can you NOT know...considering as a counselor...and probably his...he definitely had to disclose this - not only that, but she would have gotten any reports regarding his past to better counsel him.
