- After many sleepless nights, we arrived at Great Bend, KS at 1pm for day one of RACE WEEK!
Aydan has been working day and night (ONLY STOPPING FOR HIS HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION) with Richie Crampton to get the Sh**box of Doom 57 Chevy wagon ready for Rocky Mountain Race Week and they made it with hours to spare. Tech finished at 3pm!
First Tom made a run in the car to make sure that it was handling correctly and that everything was functioning as it should (the last time this car raced was Hot Rod Drag Week in 2018, and it had extensive repairs after a road accident).
Then it was Aydan's turn to make his first ever quarter-mile runs on a drag strip!
There is a whole bunch of awesome people racing here including Cleetus McFarland and Derek from Vice Grip Garage, not to mention the PFISpeed guys!

The pressure on Ayden must be enormous, he has big shoes to fill. Not easy to follow the steps of a successful dad. At the same time he has the best teacher, a calm and loving one. Best of luck for your first drag week Ayden.
Hopefully we get to see the kid grow to become a comfortable/confident racer by the end of the week, hats off to you Tom 👍
He’s Toms kid. No doubt he will!

This is the best story of race week right here. Proud Dad moments. Looks like Tom is smiling the entire video. Awesome.
Can you imagine being Tom’s kid? He did great.
“What was your 60’? 2minutes” had me in stitches
Safe travels on the drive today and kudos to Aydan for his wiring skills, everything worked and it passed tech. The driving part will come. Gonna be a helluva week!
Aydan looks like a relaxed and focused youngster, the 57 is awesome and in no time this will come together!
Tom was absolutely glowing after both Aydan's passes ,,,that gentlemen is the look of a proud father !
Good job to both of you and all who helped in this project !
Making those memorable moments.. Priceless!!
just like the old man, leaving the line with his visor up ;), congrats guys, looks like fun!
Aydan is going to be a good drag racer n the future ...That ultra cool headed approach he has is what you need when you get to real high power stuff , and we all know that's where he's headed with Tom
Don't care who you are, getting behind the wheel of a drag car the first time takes cajones. I'm lucky to see his first run of a career that looks promising.
Especially one with that kind of power and build out. Most people start in some crappy old beater that can barely make a sub 20 second pass LOL
@@phoenixrising4573 right? I’m pretty sure this car has been 7s!
@@SamWilliams78 No Sam it hasn't, this is it's maiden voyage. Dennis Taylor barely finished the build. As Tom says, his Son installed the items they've talked about.
@@quickdeuce two different cars. This car was built a few years ago by Richie Crampton and Johnnie Lindberg I think. It ran 7.10 at 203 with johnnies top alcohol drive train in it a couple years ago! I saw it at drag week in 2019 and it’s a super nice car.
Ayden, you did great for the first passes, it will only go faster as the week ticks away and races happen. Take care.
That is truly how you teach your kid how to race. Public service announcement I'm not talking about race what color you are. I just don't want to be cancelled awesome job kid!! Good luck riding with your dad:-) :-) :-)
So impressed in what I just watched, you did great Aydan.
Tom, there's nothing like bringing new blood into the sport that we all love so much.
Congrats to you guys, well done.... 👍👏👌
AWESOME video!! Just the Proud Father and Son part! Definitely Son got himself a outstanding Teacher. Good luck on bringing home the win!!
Heck Im proud of him, I can only imagine how you feel.
What we see here is a young man with knowledge and respect for what a real race car can do. A car with power. He is feeling his way along to being comfortable with how it launches, reacts, and pulls. He knows these things can switch their mood in an instant. Good job. Get some.
"What was your 60 foot, 2 minutes?" 🤣🤣
My whole life I've wanted to build a car with my day and go racing, but he never bothered to care about my hobbies or anything really. What you're doing with Aiden is awesome. I'd love to have the opportunity and the involved parents that he has.
shtbox is beautiful, Congrats Aydan on your graduation, enjoy racing and learn from your pops, loved Toms smile after the run
Great job Bailey Boys, looking forward to race week.
Rocky Mountain race week. getting your NHRA license! Pretty damn cool senior trip!
Ayden, congratulations on a great couple of rips! I can only imagine doing what you are doing 50 years ago. So good, thanks papa.
I'm happy for Aydan; three weeks of hard work, and many dreaming about, finally hit the paddle for the first time following dad's steps! Great life story! Thanks.
Tom looks so happy teaching and watching his son going down the track. Great father and Son moments
That is so awesome Tom, do memories of your first trip down the track float through your mind as you watch your son take his first trip down the track?
Congratulations young man the first of many more to come..
May the Lord continue to bless your journey amen
You have a pretty smart kid right there, I'm 52 and wouldn't give anything you've built a full send, keep teaching him the safest way to race!
It is really awesome to see young people learning. I am sure with Tom and the crew teaching him he will be a comfortable confident racer by the end of the week!!
Priceless Memories! Good job young man graduating high school, your dad must be so proud.
I love seeing this man… proud papa and nervous son. As a son and dad both are emotional and it’s shows the love in there family. Good job Tom and aydan
The best drag week video yet! Seat time,..that's all. Congrats on the Graduation and the Shtbox is looking Fantastic,..yes,..it's nice to be proud Tom! The smiles say it all.
That Chevy makes me smile every time I see it
Love Watching this Father and Son Race Week Trip!! Making memories for a lifetime!! 👍🏻🏁🏁🏁
Its amazing to watch someone fall in love with racing. Sign the RPM act. Cheers Aydan!
Quality Time in America. Good Job Ayden! Dominate Drag week with Yer Pretty Cool Dad. Love Yer Show Gentlemen!
Awesome Dad mode Tom. We'll done Aydan, looking forward to seeing you enjoy all the hard work
We get to see the next generation from the start. great to see him following in your footsteps
Tom's kid: "hey dad I want to race cars too!"
Tom: Hell Yea! Ok let's figure out ropes on a slow "8 Second Car" and ease into it.
Man! This is going to be an epic series! Love it!
Now there's a positive dad son relationship!
I can’t wait for my kids to get old enough to get to drive a race car, going to be scary and fun helping them learn how to drive. Great job being a patient dad and letting him take it at his own pace!
It's great to see the nervousness of a proud dad. Priceless !
Awesome DAD teaching your son to race!! Happy Early Fathers Day!!
I learned to drive when I was 7, that's 52 years ago now...
Startred competition driving at 19, played with drags, rally & dirt speedway...
I have yet to do an 11 sec 1/4 mile.
Goodonya lad & Dad. cool af.
That car was a frame and shell few weeks ago. Mad dash is under statement. I call it miracle. Make them memories and keep sharing some of them with us.
Sounds like you need to slide the seat forward so it's hard to not be full throttle!
"What was your 60 foot, two minutes?" That's exactly how fathers are supposed to talk to their sons! That is so cool of you to let him get to experience this with you, I wish my Dad had an interest in cars.
Vise grip garage making cameos in everyone's vids lol love it
Nice to see father and son projects like this. Great work guys!
Aydan Bailey's DoomBox Or just Box of Doom 57 Chevy Wagon! This is Very Cool Tom Can't wait to see Father/Son Wagon and Nomad Running Side By side Maybe at 2.0. What life's about Family!
Congratulations both of you.! Thats gotta feel good dad!
He'll be running 6s before ya know it!
Everyone had to learn.. 👍 Great job.
Hard Working young man how refreshing!!! Good job Papa Baily!!!! Good luck and be safe!!!
Keep improving at this rate and Aydan will win the top rookie of race week award.
first pass in really capable car: sensory overload --- looks like he is well on his way... sure wish my dad did something like this with me...
Great job Aydan!👍👌🤙
2 down and you are well on your way.
Awesome to see father and son racing!
Hey Mr Bailey and Mr Bailey,i absolutely love that 57, i was born in 57 and grew up around cars like that, you're both doin a great job and iam routin for you and lookin forward to more video of you both and that 57.
Great to see a Father teach his Son the ropes. Good on you Mr. Tom Baily!
18:01 Tom with the what was the 60ft 2 minutes 😂 good job aydan keep it up
I remember my first passes going from a 13 second car (55 Chevy) to a 10 second car had me all kinds of flustered. Good job Aydan
Teaching the young fellow the right way awesome video Tom. The 57 is doing it well. 😂🤙🤙🤞✊👍👍💪💪🦾🤘
Yes sir, like father like son. Have a good week, quality time with your son. Cheers
It was so cool getting to be a part of this congratulations ! Can't wait to see the progress through the week. Best of luck!
I could just feel the nervousness in the young man !!!! Job well done 👍
Some quality father son time right there! Good job Aydan, my car wasn't that fast when I ran my first quarter...
Not a bad start to what should be a respectable race career. The trial by fire part is done and now its all growth and learning. Well done to everyone helping out to get Aydan off to a good start. Good luck guys.
Not even my Son but I'll admit I felt a few nerves watching him get tree'd up. Thanks for inviting us along for the ride Tom, get ready for the kid to out drive you in a couple of years :p
Way better than the worlds fastest street car. Time spent with your boy will never get broken.
It's awesome to see everyone let him go at his own pace. Watch out Tom in no time he's coming for ya lol.
Ayden's a chip off the old block - takes his racing seriously and knows his way around a racecar - with Tom for a mentor, he'll do just fine 👍
Nice job. Once he finds his routine and rytym. He will do awesome. Nice patience Tom. My old man hated us boys drag racing at 16. Always smiled when we won but never encourage us.
Adam got in his blood brother... cool as a fan lol... you definitely got him hooked Tom
Great job Aydan, keep it up, you'll be in the winners circle in no time.
Best of luck on the father son journey this week . Awesome start Ayden
That's great. Your a good teacher because you stay calm. Both of you are pretty laid back
i can see the pride in your eye its nice when your kids make ya proud
Ayden has the best coach and teacher around. Looking forward to the future runs.
😲 wow me bailey, you look like a cranky bear. But you are such a nice guy. I'm new to channel. Came over from CLEETUS. Wow BROTHER you are a great teacher. Big heart BRO ❤️👍🇺🇲😃💪
Lucky kid. He seems to be into the the big picture. I wish I had a tom Bailey when I was 18. Looking forward to the rest of this week.
NICE. Thanks for letting us share the cherry-popping experience!
21:35 those somewhat worn rear tires caught my eye back on the hoist at the beginning of the video. It all worked out in the end. Something the "kid" will remember his whole life!
Hell yea here we go all the race week vids good luck and be safe guys
AWESOME! A new racer is born!!! Confidence will come.
You will have him on point before the week is up💯🇺🇸🔥✌✌
Awesome build..and great to see you and you're son living the dream 🙌
Great job guys!! Better watch out Tom, Aydan going to be after 1.0’s keys by the end of the week !!!
Seeing someone new learning how to run a car really reminds you how difficult it actually is to run a car and how amazing it is that people like Tom are so good at it.
Awesome to see the next generation roll into the beams for the first time. Every racer has been there, not sure what we're capable of, what the car will do. Just like getting that high school diploma, it's a learning process. If the car holds out, he'll be rockin' it by the end of the week, and I'll be here following it. Thanks for bringing us along.
He did great for a first half pass license run. Like anything else, the more he does it, the better he'll get. Give it 6 months and he'll be beating dad!!
I’m collecting pieces for my 55 Chevy wagon build with the goal to compete in RMRW next year.
I’m watching all these videos from different channels to learn as much as possible
Thank you for posting these
Seat time and opportunity. Aydan has both ! Good luck, he will be a shoe by the end of the week !
Hell yes! Well done man! Can’t wait to see those low 8 second passes 🤌🏼
It’s simple, Bailey notification comes, I hit like instantly and watch. Great job getting the shitbox finished.
Great father and son times!! My dad and I went to the local drag strip many times to watch and make some runs. We never had anything other than a stock Roush 427r Mustang though so it was just 13 second passes for us.
Scoot That Driver Seat Up Dad! Dont give him the chance to Chicken Foot! Lol Absolutely Love that Car and What and Opportunity for Him!! Good Luck and Safe Travels Boys!!
I’ve been around drag cars my entire life. I’m not a driver though. My brother has put me in the seat of his 9 second, wheel standing Super Stocker a couple times. WOW! I can identify with what this guy is experiencing. Everything in your mind is moving, racing much faster than the car. Your trying to remember your procedures and do all the things but then the senses kick in, this thing vibrates like crazy and the engine is WAY LOUDER then you’ve experienced before. Everything happens mush faster then you think it will. You want to do everything right but you don’t want to break anything crash anything. Everything about a pass in a fast car in sensory overload. Your mind has no comparable experience to reference to. The G force of the instant excelleration is INTENSE!!. Within a few passes his mind will settle, he’ll be comfortable and anticipate what’s next vs being surprised it time to shift or that the car begins to steer different under excelleration. It’s fun for me to see other new drivers as they manage this kind of experience.
I couldn’t help but smile when you were giving Ayden the final shakedown before his first run. He’ll be ok dad 👍
First time I met Elana was at the Bonneville Salt flats and she was with Don Prudhomme. Talk about a cool experience! Good luck this week guys!
Congratulations on your first "official" pass.
Hope you guys have a great week. Stay safe!
Awesome, love seeing the youngin's learning.
Well he helped build it so he absolutely will respect it.
Back in high school, I helped a really good friend of mine build up a 77 Camaro with a bunch of horsepower. We took it to the strip a few times after we finished it and we both turned 18. First time doing a real launch on the VHT was absolutely amazing and overwhelming.
When he was going off to college he sold it to help pay tuition. I know he hated to do it but needed to. The worst part is that about 1 month later he got a letter in the mail from the impound yard that his old car was there, the new owner had never re-registered it. So we went to go take a look. The 5 point harnesses looked like they had never been put on, there were 2 shoulder width holes in the windshield and the engine was sitting between the seats. The report we got when we did a records check was 2 teenagers a 17yo driver and a 16yo passenger were messing around on the freeway and put it into a concrete barrier. Neither was wearing the 5 point harnesses and were ejected through the windshield. I firmly believe that if they had put the blood and sweat into that car they would have respected it the same way we did.
Keep at it , Aydan , you're getting better !
Aydan has a great teacher , He will come around
