    Nothing quite compares to being the sidecar passenger having full faith in the driver I tip my hat to those that race especially the TT

  • @goscootgo
    @goscootgo Před 11 měsíci +3

    I've raced F1 here in the US, as a co-driver. (also F2, and P3 Vintage) It is a MUCH smaller sport here, and kinda dying off. All classes are run on a single grid. For F1, we are allowed 1000cc motors. I miss it. Was on a team. We brought in a RSR chassis (basically and LSR) and spent our 1st season sorting the car, and learning to work together. We dominated for the next few years. Even began the process for going to the TT. Long story short, driver got a serious injury, and personality differences sent us separate ways. I always wanted to head to Europe, and see how I'd do over there, but I'm not so sure it is in the cards.

      The rider can feel the imbalance (in most cases) in that the handling of the machine changes, without the balance being maintained. Try firing one into a left hand cornr without your passenger. You'll know they are not there if you do.

      Its actually "easier" at race pace, to a degree at least. YOu can use the "flow of the machine" to stay in the sweet spot, as a passenger" to move about. Sitting there as Jamie did is actually the hardest work possible. But yes at about half speed, if that, Jamie was already feeling the "rush" of those fantastic machines.

      1000cc R1 Yamaha, 110mm off the ground, at 292 KPH at Monza. The sport decided to reduce itself down to 600 cc engines in the current days. But back in the day 1000cc ad 1100cc outfits were all the go. They are actually now runnig out of 600cc engines to use. So they have to come up with "something" to use for the future.

    There are two jobs in motorsport I wouldn't want - rally co-driver and sidecar rider - the first because you have to hope that the trees and rocks hurtling past you aren't going to hit you (and you depend upon the driver as much as the driver depends upon your pace notes) and the second because I couldn't imagine rushing round a track two inches off the ground and having to hold on against all the g-forces (give me a seat and seatbelts any day). The lack of control is the unifying factor.
    Good on you for having a ride - I know I'd be just as frazzled if it were me doing it!
