Word of mouth, met a guy at scheels who talked about the Balance Leech pattern and after walking over fly tying techniques he recommended your You Tube site on how to tie this balance leech. He was right about your method of instruction, so keep up the excellent work

Love the balanced approach Phil but I had far too many non-hooksets using jig hooks. I finally realised that one loses about 50% of your hook gap with them. I cured my problem by tying my leeches and other flys that I wanted to balance on regular hooks w/ a beadhead and throwing a riffling (Portland Creek) hitch on them behind the bead. Voila! Rarely miss a hookset now.-- AmosG
Thanks Amos, which jig hooks are you using and in what sizes? I have never had that issue with balanced flies before? I use them for a variety of species as well both on lakes and streams. I also use them with a traditional cast and retrieve flies with great results. I rarely tie leech patterns now in any other style than balanced. Thanks, Phil
Hey Philip, I love your vise. I have one of the master vises and the only thing I think could be improved is a slightly larger knob for the first adjustment on the hook. I don't have particularly large fingers so I think it is probably harder for others. I love your work, just bought one of your books. I saw the dvd on your site. Frankly, though I haven't tried yours, I am usually disappointed with the volume of flies on the DVD for the price. I do appreciate your expertise. Thanks Luke, this balanced approach to flies works deadly. Not only when hanging flies under indicators but cast and retrieved as well.

what size straight pin are You using? I've never seen one that big.
