You should all get out of your vehicle and do rock, paper, scissors to determine who goes first. Then the remaining 2 do it again to see who goes second.

No, when there are only two cars, the trafic rules apply.
But they are 3 persons. The rules for rock, paper, scissors doesn't work so well for three. And if they play it two at a time, which two starts?
No, better to fool the two others to step out of their cars to play, and then you drive. Problem solved!

Another rule that applies is that a car entering a zone takes precedence over those cars leaving it (the white and blue cars are inside next to the building). In case the three roads are of the same relevance and in a similar location, the car that stopped first has the priority and then the car to the right goes second.

    1. An intersection with no signs
    2. all 3 vehicle getting to the intersection at exactly the same time
    3. All 3 drivers using their turn signals.
    Reality,
    1. somebody is going to get there first, so they would have the right of way.
    2. At best only one driver would have the brains to use their turn signals,
    3. The vehicle going the fastest has the right of way.
    4. According to the insurance company's, in an accident the vehicle making a left turn is always at fault no matter what, so in this case of all 3 vehicle making a left would be 1/3rd at fault.
This is regardless of speeding and failure to signal.

I chose #4, because I was taught that most rules of the road are institutionalized politeness. So when in doubt it's better to be polite than "righf you look at the situation very carefully, you'll notice that the front end of the blue car is actually at the intersection while the other two are are a half-car back from it, using their entry roads as the metric. So so rationally, the blue car being "there first" should go first, then the white, then red.
That's the way that many drivers think. But from experience I'd yield to the white sports coupe, because the driver is more likely to be younger, more aggressive, less predictable. That's defensive driving, not DVM driving.

If you unravel this knot a bit, you will see that all three cars may make a "tangent turn". This is legal as far as I know at least in some states. To make a "tangent turn" pass to the left of the vehicle instead of crossing in frount and then turning left. To visualize this easier, imagine each car in the picture shifted to the left of the road. Then they simply take a left turn. Of course it would not be legal to start from this visualized position, but you get the idea. Using the tangent turn, there is no need for any order to be considered.

While the answer given is how it is decided, the white and blue cars should really consider their entrance to the intersection as having implied yield signs due to the building obstructing their view of the other roads. The red car is the only one with an unobstructed view of all three roads, and therefore should have right of way. Properly mark the intersection and place yield signs in front of the white car and the blue car.

The only vehicle in this situation that is actually making a 'turn', is the blue one. The red and white vehicles both have a 'curve' in the road they are travelling on. So the white vehicle has 'right of way' over red vehicle and red vehicle has ROW over blue vehicle, since blue is only one making a 'turn'. Of course that's just my opinion and how I see it, only because I tend to over think and complicate things. Of course Kendrick's solution is much easier and quicker.

    • @Anson_AKB
      @Anson_AKB Před rokem

where i live, it would be independent of angles, thus also apply to a t-intersection. but the others might chose to give up on their ROW since one car going straight would be the fastest to clean up the crossing, instead of the others turning around each other in potentially smaller roads.

I live in Rhode Island. Unless there is a stop light, traffic can only move by consensus regardless of who has a stop sign or who got their first. It's not the law, just the custom. Providence RI in particular has a plethora of two way streets that are too narrow for two cars to pass each other at the same time, so drivers are conditioned to working everything out with each other nearly all the time. Of course, that doesn't mean that some people can be jerks once in a while.

all such questions should also mention the country in which it happens.
where i live (germany, but also other countries in europe), most smaller streets have no signs (and "4way stop" is completely unknown), and "right before left" applies to all those small crossings, with no stop needed or watching for who came or stopped (which is not needed, or even could be seen as giving up on the right to go before cars from the left) first. in a situation like this, drivers have to find a solution by giving up THEIR OWN "right from coming from the right" and indicate to the car on their left that it may pass. they should and can not wave the car on their right since that one has a right of way anyway and it would cause confusion, but they only can give up on their own right of way.
in this specific case, the blue one would probably let the white pass first since the road at the red car is widest and thus this would allow the fastest way to clean up the crossing. next then legally would be the red one (coming from the right of the blue one), but that driver might wave and yield to the blue one since the white would be gone and thus it would be easiest for the blue to enter an empty street, with the red going last and thus then also being able to quickly enter an empty street. if the drivers are no selfish jerks, white/blue/red would be the fastest way, although there is no law who goes first, and legally red could go before blue (after white has left).
