Actually, Shepherd is still technically the bad guy since he's the one who tipped off Makerov that Allen was an undercover agent, so that way Russia would declare war on America, then Shepherd would take down Makerov himself and be a war hero.
So technically this ending would have foiled Shepherd's plans.

This ending was the best scenario ever! The American agent's clever use of a water bottle at the airport gate was the perfect tactic for stalling the terrorists with the old "I have to deal with this uptight TSA guy, it will only take a minute" gambit to keep them in place as he causes an altercation that attracts the SWAT team. The elimination of the anarchists in the prison was the smartest option instead of the horrifying massacre of the game mission.
If Alan did this the game wouldn't be fun. No Russian is the most important mission in MW2. You can't just make it not happen. Also, if you are offended by this mission you can skip it. (I know i'm late btw)
