  • I’m in Rajasthan India and after an amazing few days in Jaipur I’m taking the train from Jaipur Junction Railway Station to Jodhpur.
    This time I am travelling in train class AC1 and am lucky enough to get an entire compartment to myself.
    The journey takes about 7 hours and the train is an hour late arriving in Jodhpur. The hotel has sent a pickup for me but how do we find each other with all these crowds?

    I try to post new vlogs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

      Pedal Power Touring Glad I could entertain you! Vlogging in India is very different from anywhere else I have filmed, in India generally people rush towards the camera not away. Some days it seems like a constant stream of people running up and asking for selfies with me, but they are all very friendly so it's all good fun. Maybe they think I am famous?

  • @haemishkane5711
    @haemishkane5711 Před 6 lety

    Very good video Simon. Keep On Keeping On mate. I have been traveling in India for 40 years and having experienced ALL classes of train travel, once the novelty experience of a Third class sleeper having the 'experience of India' so to speak is worn off, you soon realize it makes sense to pay that little extra for the comfort and 'Safety' of 1st; 2nd and 3AC.usually Security Guards, no street vendors or 'hop on hop off travellers' are allowed to occupy seats. Middle-class family's travel in these classes and in this respect there is a good chance they speak English offering you the chance of interaction and therefore acquiring local information and interesting conversations.The most vulnerable part of travel in trains in 3rd class sleeper is 'getting on' and getting off' this is 'push n shove' time when everyone is getting to their seats of getting out of the train A little bit of chaos takes place and this is an opportunist for organised thieves to get into action.Hop on Hop off all the 'usual suspects. Beware if at this time if you put your bags down for convenience and you are distracted for some reason or you have just sat down and someone opposite starts a conversation to distract you, be alert till the train starts moving and you are settled. Yes, Indian travelers do chain their bags to the seats for a good reason so follow their example. Just a note, in sleeper class coach 72 passengers all windows with bars! and only 2 small 'escape windows' however, in AC Class the windows are made of 'perspect' and probably shatter, easier to break in case of emergency? The trains are 'long' so to get an idea where your coach is likely to be look up at the lighted signs or ask porters where your specific coach is likely to stop. Happy Journey.

  • @alpha-vs1fx
    @alpha-vs1fx Před 6 lety +4

    the problem up in the north is that the people arnt much civilized. North is full of chaos , although the whole India is chaos , the north India is just too much. i would recommend going to states like himachal pradesh and jharkhand for natural beauty.If you visit in south you have many choices like the whole kerela , karnataka state and so many more.if you plan going to the west which is a good part as well i would recommend going in Gujarat and eating some amazing gujarati food.they celebrate many festivals over there and its a slightly more civilized state than many others. you can go to Goa for the beaches and many more places. ( there are many tourists in goa) and then you have maharshtra state where you can go to mumbai which has a good connectivity to all over India. however if you go to east or north east they are beautiful as well and naturally blessed.thanks for visiting my country , cheers!

      Swim 4life you can book here ....www.irctc.co.in.....

    • @pontifixmax
      @pontifixmax Před 6 lety

      Use the IRCTC website to book e-tickets on-line, which you receive via your email and/or SMS message. Just print the ticket at home or screenshot it on your phone. First you'll need to create an account with IRCTC. The site can be rather finnicky but after using it a few times you'll get the gist.
      A few pointers:
      - There can be a number of stations in each city (depending on its size ) so its important to be aware of which station your departing from and arriving at when booking.
      - IRCTC only allows a maximum purchase of 6 e-tickets per month. This is to prevent travel agents from buying them all up to resell at a markup. That said, I got away with creating more than one account in order to purchase more, just for personal use of course.
      - The seeming lack of available seats or berths can appear daunting since Indian travellers reserve train tickets far in advance. That said, opting to spend a little more to travel in a higher class means greater availability and shorter wait lists. Same goes for taking overnight trains. Don't be afraid to purchase a waitlisted ticket, so long as the list isn't ridiculously long and you have a few days notice between when you book and when you intend to travel. If it doesn't get confirmed you get a refund, minus a few rupees. If booking a waitlisted ticket, I recommend using the Trainman app to predict whether it will be confirmed or not. Just just put in your PNR # and it will tell you the odds. its pretty accurate.
      There is also Taktal tickets which go on sale 24 hours before a train is due to depart but they are notoriously hard to get due to demand. They also involve paying a high premium.
      Finally, concerning payment, IRCTC accepts international credit cards through selecting the Atom Technologies option. Note that the Indian Rails phone app does not. While the app is certainly more user friendly than the website, it does not accept payments with international credit cards.
      Hope this info helps:)

    Thanks :)

      @TravelwithSimon  Před 5 lety

      Hi Georges, I would definitely book in advance if you can, especially if you want to get the first class (or equivalent) sleeper cabins. I booked through the IRTC website ( www.irctc.co.in/nget/train-search ), it was a bit of a mission at times to initially register and then to get payment through on some occasions since the payment gateway receives so much traffic it often times out. There is lots of good advice about booking your ticket here: www.seat61.com/India.htm

      Travel with Simon I loved Jaisalmer. Spent time in the fort of course. Its a living fort so there are lots of shops, restaurants, cafes etc inside to frequent we also did a camel trip to the desert and slept in the dunes under the stars. Our guides were youths who grew up in the thar desert so they provided an excellent interpretstion of life there. The stars at night in the desert were amazing of course. And the silence deafening

    • @TravelwithSimon
      @TravelwithSimon  Před 6 lety

      I know exactly what you mean about silence being deafening. Stars over the desert, just amazing, love it. Reminds me of Namibia, (southern Africa) another beautiful and diverse country which I love. There are more springbok there than people so it's a bit different from India! Are you still in India now?

      Hello Simon, I just found your channel just a couple of days ago and since then I've watched several of your videos and enjoyed them very much. Thank you for the reply and sharing your videos. By the way now I know why they are boarding the train from the wrong side...so they could get a seat or a preferred seat and the beat the chaotic crowd rushing into the train. But still not a proper way to do it.

    Also, any chance you might have any idea on extending the trip? My train is booked till Basni, but I actually want to get off only at Jodhpur Junction. It was the only way to get confirmed tickets.

      Display boards/signage boards are present at every platform giving information about train number, coach number. Coach number for eg. A1 or B1 something like that is displayed outside of railway boogie coach.

      @Lay Peng you need to buy ticket for further travel. TTE can surely help you but on safer side pls buy a ticket. Since you are visiting india confirm ticket is most probably you will get since railway authorities will ask you about your passport and all..
