Beginner Isometric Drawing Tutorial

This video for absolute beginners shows how to use an isometric grid to make 3D shapes. Specifically, you will see a simple square made 3D and learn a few common mistakes people make when drawing.

Isometric drawing is when all side lengths are equal to the front face - Oblique drawing is when we half scale the side length to the front face

I am having problems understanding constructing orthographic views from isometric drawing...the incline gets me...i don't know where to connect...i just don't get it...can you help me....maybe if i email you the work i'm trying to understand...gosh this is so hard...

I'm open to emails. When I make orthographic drawings, I focus on getting the width and height of each side correct first. In fact, I pencil in a little box to draw each side in. For example, if I'm drawing a staircase that is five boxes by five boxes on the jagged side, and two boxes wide for the steps, I draw out a larger box that measures the size of the entire side (5x5, 5x2, 2x5). From there, I start adding details and "cutting out" areas as I draw. That's what works for me. But I'd love to help if you have a specific question!
