The main officer who was speaking to her was so kind and caring with her. We need more of him in this world
Of all the body cam vids I've seen, Columbus officers seem to be the most kind and genuinely caring. But they also seem to deal with more mental health related calls than the other channels
This officer was awesome he went out his way to take her to the hospital didn’t handcuff her which really made her trust him.
Yup. Officer Ben is good dude.
no to kind to the man though!
He’s absolutely the best with all mental health issues. He certainly gives his job and community so much love and compassion! 💜🙏💜
Mental Illness in and of itself is not a crime. This cop did a great job of communicating with her and displaying empathy. Great job. Hope she gets the help she needs.
Who said it is a crime? Ridiculous!
I wish we had more good places the police could take people who need help. Their loved ones should not be 100% responsible for them.
This is meth psychosis.....it's preventable....don't use meth
@@dystopian.. Untrained cops who are unable to notice or differentiate mental illness; tend to simply dismiss it as attitude problem and arrest the individuals. Not enough individuals within the police enforcement learn about mental illness and how to properly navigate the situation when it occurs.
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I hope the hospital treated her with as much compassion and respect as Officer Ben did and weren't judgmental.
I’ve worked in mental health for 15 years in the UK, this is one of the (sadly rare) best examples of empathy and de-escalation skills I’ve seen from the Police I’ve seen in a long time. Kudos to the officer, you can tell he was genuinely concerned. I hope Stephanie is in a much better place now ❤
You were so compassionate with her Officer Ben. I'll say it again: you're a real asset to the community.
Is the person who runs this channel the officer in the video??
@@AKbaby89 yes it is 😀
Wow I didn't know that!!! So do all the videos have him in them?

@@tasharosaya5494 I don't think they all are, but he's a lot of them.
Whether drug induced psychosis or mental illness, we seriously need better mental health and drug treatment facilities. That is someone's daughter.
This wasn't drug-induced. She was clearly suffering from a very manic episode. But you are absolutely 100% right that we do need higher awareness of mental health/addiction and better training for the officers across the country that handle these types of "calls". The CPD is doing it RIGHT; I hope other law enforcement are watching.
I think most people don’t realize, the Police are not social workers. They are here to maintain law and order. They don’t get paid enough as it is.
Imagine you picking a career where you’re one call away from being killed simply because you’re a police officer.
EXACTLY,but try and get people to vote, approve funding for it.along with stuffed to the gills jails, little care, most states, citizens don't care. 😢
Facts my ex had mental issues and I do too being in a better environment helps but accessing care is hard I got bipolar idk how my husband deals with just minor mental problems I have I always feel bad after I was never this bad but damn feel for her
@@amydavis4945They already said what you did. I’m kind of confused at the beginning of your reply because it sounds like you think they’re saying that it was drug induced when they said it was either that or a mental health issue. It’s just the way you worded your response is why I’m replying this way.
My heart just breaks for this poor lady. She is a tortured soul. I hope she gets all the help she needs
I'm 100% with you. This woman was being tortured in her own mind, and it's heartbreaking😢. I pray she gets the help she needs
@@ginapolman4968 Is it just me or could you see her mind going 100mph, trying to figure out where to start when Officer Ben asks her questions about when it started and if she could explain what's been going on? This poor woman needs a place of solace so she can take a deep breath, slow her thoughts, and get it all out. My hope is she finds the help and support she desperately needs and deserves. 🙏
Totally agree!💯
I agree..the poor thing. I can’t imagine what it’s like to hear voices continuously.
Love it to see a person gets a ride in a police car WITHOUT CUFFS OR CHARGES to get the help they need ❤
As someone with mental health issues, the way this officer handled this interaction with this lady was absolute perfection. Calm, quiet tones, empathetic, gentle, understanding. I hope he is used as an example for other officers in his station and helps to train others. So well done sir! Thank you for treating her like a person. I hope Stephanie gets well and feels better soon! ❤
Agreed ❤️
Absolute compassion and respect for this lady. Keeping her and him safe. ❤

I have a mental illness. Years ago I started to have hallucinations about someone coming to kill me. I called 911 and an officer came out, she was so cold. She had me drive myself to the hospital and would join me there. What good was it to call for help if I had to handle it myself?
@user-jc5wh6ey4t I'm sorry you had such a scary and terrible experience. They should have sent you an ambulance, not an officer. Goodness!
The officer that took her to the hospital, did a wonderful job! He kept her calm, talked to her in a quiet manner and most importantly he kept her calm. Excellent job ! Thank you for all of your service.
He was indeed great
Almost like her saw her as… a human! 🤯
If more people in general treated mental illness like this we could genuinely help improve the quality of life for everyone. Imagine how much the poverty level in this country would drop if people were given assistance rather than being stomped to the bottom rung of society.
@@LadyCaspar100%!
Wow. These cops are just... phenomenal. Compassionate, trained, gentle... they deserve serious recognition!!
For doing their jobs?
@@phoebeb.332 So tell me, you don't agree this officer deserves a little recognition for taking the time to calm her down, talk to her in a way that's sensitive to her feelings, emotions, and mental stability, or lack there of? He doesn't deserve any appreciation for his empathy? I could list more but my point is, if that's how you feel, then there shouldn't be perks given out at any workplace. No raises, no bonuses, no promotions, ETC for anyone who goes 'above and beyond' their basic job description because, well, they were just doing their job.
@@phoebeb.332 Idk if you realize but law enforcement officers have a bad reputation these days. Seeing an officer like this who is kind and compassionate gives people hope that we can start to trust officers a little bit more. Any officer who offers that deserves all the recognition and respect.
@@sandrajaime6790 oh, I do know how bad it is. I can appreciate professionalism and kindness / but I see even the “good” cops as all complacent to what goes on in their departments. Plus, it’s their job. They choose to be police officers.

I don’t want to hear, any bad comments about our Police officers! This officer was a saint, dealing ,handling her !
Many officers would not of shown her this kindness they would have had egos blazing he was great
The officer was excellent with this troubled Lady. He should do a training class to show other Officer's how to handle people that need real mental help. So get violent because they are scared or many other situations. Mental health is like a blister or sore throat. I wish the very best Dr. For this Lady. I hope she gets a happy life. @Karen, They are not all like this one, he was awesome but the bad ones hurt the good ones
Well done to the police officers who treated her with kindness and understanding.
They did such a great job of not getting her worked up. And she was fairly nice and cooperative, but clearly needed help.
Great police officer, he kept her calm and did not talk down to her
This doesn't make up for the countless others where they just treat them like criminals
Even if it WAS drug related,-- he did a Remarkable job of de-escalation here.
So Well Done.
Very Impressive and Masterful job.
Excellent de-escalation techniques by this officer.
Poor woman, I hope she got the care she needed, I think she seemed a lovely person and the officer was so kind and patient with her. He was a breath of fresh air.
Ole girl been through a lot...but one thing i noticed, she never did cry.

Probably not drunk. Many people turn on the water works when they are drunk.
I had a really bad mental break down in 2007 and the police came to get me because I left the hospital. They were really kind to me and made me feel at ease. This is the way policing should be.
I had a breakdown back in 08. The economy crashed, I lost my great job, both my grandmothers died, & my abusive husband left & took my stepdaughter away from me. I tried, if you know what I mean. It took 5 years to rebuild my heart & mind. I am thankful too that there are caring people out there.

Compliments to the cop who talked to her. He is trained and compassionate enough to difuse mental health cases like Stefanie. I hope she is in a safe and good place now.
Absolutely. What a kind man. I, too, hope she gets the help. Poor soul.
I wish more people were like the way this officer was to her. I myself have mental health problems and actually in a partial Hospitalization Program right now. I feel i would have gotten help alot sooner if people would have understood and not have been so judgmental to me about my mental health.
I hope you're doing better. Everyone deserves to be well and happy. My brother -in-law suffered, but like many people, he would be feeling good and decide he didn't need his medicine anymore. He couldn't gauge the consequences of that decision, and he would have to be placed in a facility until he was on level ground again. It broke my husband's heart. We don't judge someone with a broken leg for not being able to walk. We need to be more benevolent with those who have a true illness that can stand in the way of how one moves through life. There is sunlight at the end of the tunnel. I will keep you in my thoughts and pray you find what works for you to have all the happiness you do deserve. Tell yourself so every single day. ❣️🕊️❣️

To all of the bashers in the comments: Unfortunately, not everyone has the same up bringing. Try to be a little more aware that some people have different experiences in life. Everyone has difficult moments in life, sure; but not everyone has the same love and support systems. The sooner we can all understand that the better off the next generation will be. Regardless of what you think about people struggling like this, your sons and daughters will have to grow up and live in this world. It's a damn shame, but the only way to improve our communities is to change the way that we look at the less fortunate. Being kind is free; You don't have to spend a dime to make someone smile. We could all use a bit of joy every once in a while.
Judging by the way this officer handled himself in this situation tells me that at least he will understand this message. Good on you, Sir. Keep up the great work.

I am grateful for officers like this. My nephew Josh has been suffering with schizophrenia for years and refusing to get help, previously police have been called and left him after talking to him, they probably didn't realize it was schizophrenic behavior. Last Wednesday evening I was on the phone with him and he had a yelling and screaming mental breakdown in the middle of the street somewhere on the North End of Columbus (I live in Florida and haven't seen him in over a year. The police were called, and rather than give him a hard time, run him into jail, or just let him be, they recognized that there was a deeper problem and took him to Riverside. I was on the phone with my nephew and heard a lot of what transpired, and it was handles very well. He is thankfully still there and for the first time in years when I talked to him yesterday, he wasn't hearing voices or freaking out. I wish I knew who the officers were to thank them, but such is the nature of police work, they do so much for the public, and never get all of the thanks or recognition they so often deserve.
Just a question...why hasn't his family went to court and got guardianship/conservatorship over Josh so they can place him in a facility that can control him??
🙏🏽🙏🏽
You could call the department and tell them who your relative is/explain the call and see who the responding officers were. I'm sure they have records. You can then thank them personally (through email, pretty sure each officer has a work one).
I agree. You can also call the department explaining and ask for the officer to call you. It'll be a blocked or restricted number but that way you can personally thank them.
Sending love to your nephew.
During a time when we hear about so many police officers doing some terrible things to people and showing a complete lack of empathy for people it's so refreshing to see a police officer who does show compassion and empathy as well as respect for someone who is obviously in distress and unable to care for themselves. I too am Bipolar and although I'm well medicated and have been seeing a therapist for the last few years there was a time when I wasn't doing well at all and had to be hospitalized repeatedly for my own good and fortunately I too was treated well by the officers who took me to the hospital. There was an occasion when I was taken to the hospital because I was in the middle of a mental health crisis and I was extremely verbally abusive to one of the officers and he took it all in stride because it was obvious that I wasn't responsible for what I was saying. I wish I knew who that officer is so I could apologize for my words towards him when he was only trying to help me. Unfortunately not every police officer is so kind and caring and I know many people who have had horrible experiences when dealing with the police but it's the good police officers who should be applauded for their words and actions that people in crisis do remember and they should be recognized for their kindness and assistance towards people who many others ridicule and look down upon. To all of the public officials and medical professionals who treat people in crisis with respect and dignity Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are an example of how police and caregivers should be. And you have earned the respect of all of us who have been treated badly for something that is beyond our control and many times you are the first step in our receiving the help we so desperately need to get well and live happy productive lives. And you have no idea how many people you have touched when you gave assistance to their loved ones and helped them become the mother/sister/daughter/friend that they love. Thank you Thank you Thank you ❤

So sad. I hope she gets all the help she deserves. Horrible to have to live that way.
I love the way this offier speaks to her. Well done careing and compassion goes far...❤❤❤
This police officer did an amazing job working with her to get her help. He handled this so wonderfully.
That police officer should get some kind of humanitarian award. He was so sensitive to her mental health crisis. I wish all law inforcement officers understood that this is a perfect way to interact with someone in this condition.
I agree ❤
This one broke my heart! It was wonderful to see her treated with dignity and respect!
I so appreciate the kindess this officer showed her. 🥺
Way to go to the main officer talking to her! He’s got amazing compassion and deserves a raise!!!! He’s amazing and so kind! He is an amazing officer and what every other officer should strive to be like him! Good for you sir!
I think I want Officer Ben to talk to me when I'm stressed out 😊
Yes he should do talking books. 😂
