- Not very known, but not rare; not usual, but not too surprising either....
I never met or knew Freddie Mercury, but that's what I would think he was about...His music has influenced me more than anything else.
I wanted to say, 'rest in peace, Freddie', but I'd doubt he can...His extraordinary talent hasn't died...wherever he is .....

So talented for someone with no formal vocal training other than school choir. Truely a legend.
He's now teaching the angels to sing! His voice was perfect!

1983, Freddie finally agrees to go to the opera, persuaded by his personal assistant Peter Freestone, who is passionate about this genre.
Mercury sits in the armchair next to Peter; they are going to see the famous Pavarotti and one ‘Montserrat Caballe’… There are few words to describe what Freddie felt when he heard the voice of that soprano, now he had a goal in life, to know her. Somehow, the comments reached the ears of Montserrat Caballe. So, without thinking twice, he decided to contact ‘that British rock singer’ and try to do something together. Freddie, at that moment was in the studio working on his second solo album, when he received the call from his manager telling him that Montserrat Caballe wanted to meet him.
Quickly, he made an appointment at the Ritz hotel in Barcelona, to discuss the possibility of singing together. Freddie was more nervous than ever. Peter Freestone, who had known him for more than a decade, had never seen him in that state.
When Montserrat finally appeared, the universe became paralyzed; it seemed that everything revolved around her.
Freddie, very nervous, quickly said: "I have written a song for you ... do you want to hear it?" It was Exercises In Free Love, and Montserrat was amazed at Mercury's voice ...
She asked surprised: "Is it really you?" To which Mercury nodded. The singer wanted the song to be sung by the soprano; but she, very intelligently, wanted something more from Freddie: to write a song for her hometown, for Barcelona.
Mercury was stunned, but accepted the challenge without hesitation.
On his way home, Montserrat was going to give a recital at Covent Garden in London, and Mike Moran and Freddie Mercury were invited to go see her. Seated there, Mercury lost sight of Moran, and at the end of the recital, his fatigue partner at the time, appeared sitting at the piano on stage with Montserrat next to him. Together they performed Exercises In Free Love. Montsy (as he liked to call her Freddie) had prepared everything in secret to surprise Mercury.
After the piece, Caballé said that the architect of all that was his friend Freddie Mercury.
The entire audience attending the event turned to look at him, and they applauded him. Mercury did not fit in joy! It was the first time he received a standing ovation at Covent Garden

Freddie could have ventured into ANY musical genre and been wildly successful, that is the nature of the raw talent this man possessed. I truly believe him to be the most naturally gifted vocalist since mankind first stood up on two legs.

2023. The piano is too loud. Is there any way a person can reduce it and let the voice prevail. I feel he "could have been a contender," in the classical music field.

Don't get me wrong, I think Freddie was incredible, as both performer and singer, but this is not good. The voice is unfocussed and has a decidedly unmusical quality. He shows his potential in the performances with Monterrat Caballe, where, had he lived, he could have been writing and performing musicals (for example) far superior to Lloyd Webber, whose music is derivative (and he can't sing). Watch the 18-minute concert segment with Freddie and Caballe - this really shows what his voice could achieve.
