      BartendingPro hey can you do a video on getting fast. Especially if you get hired at a nightclub and need to deliver. Looking confident organizing, your bar, counting money. I'm still trying to get faster as a bartender but if I get hired to a severely high volume bar I haven't beem able to impress yet

    • @taylorwhite636
      @taylorwhite636 Před 4 lety

      @@redwolf481 the only way to get fast is to start slow, learn the pours/recipes accurately, and then to just do it.
      Accuracy first, and the speed will come. It's always faster to make a drink correctly once than it is to remake a correct one.

    Yeah, i typically never had problems when I refused service to someone because they were inherently drunk to a degree that I didn't feel comfortable. The ones that gave me the biggest problems were the ones that were hammered. Although, they are hammered, I never took it personally if they got upset because I know that they are hammered. Me simply saying it's against the law for me to serve someone who is intoxicated and saying it's no big deal, feel free to come on back another day or offer them a non-alcoholic beverage in a cup relating to what hard drinks are served from so they don't feel out of place in their social circles. I'm also a beast in stature so people don't throw their arms up in protest. These are great videos you put out.

    This is helpful! I was used to working at bars that were more lenient and just kind of let people party, but now I work at a casino and they are very strict. We really can't let people get drunk and I have to cut people off all the time, and I hate it. I feel bad. So I wanted to see what you said in this! I think it's definitely a good idea to say it nicely instead of acting tough and possibly embarrassing them. Thanks for the video.

    I generally don't enjoy cutting people off & it can be awkward, but it's liberating in some instances if the customer is loathsome.

    If someone comes in drunk, it’s easiest to cut them off before they get started. Most of the people I cut off started somewhere else. If you give them one drink and then come to the conclusion half way through that drink they need to be cut off then it’s 10 times tougher.

  • @pabsrea5998
    @pabsrea5998 Před 3 lety +3

    My way of cutting someone off is when they ask me for a drink and i hand them water and smile at them and say , have some water and then let me know how u feel and most get the hint . Sometime i will just cash them out since they are obviously wasted and or acting like drunk assholes

    Always go with your gut feeling! It's always a smart procedure to try not to give them the receipt. A receipt says everything about what they drink and who their server was. Hopefully it's not your name as their server. another way around this is if you can add how many guests to a table always do 8 or more. Hopefully someone benefits from this are actually understands what I'm saying. let me work Jason been falling for a while. I hope you don't mind me spitting some knowledge.

    How do you approach a single person or a couple people in a group when cutting off? Do you call the other person to the side to make it more discreet? I find that the most challenging because you don't want to embarrass that cutoff person in front of the group. Any help is appreciated.

    • @TheDutchking90
      @TheDutchking90 Před 8 lety +3

      +dingdongdirtbag Good question.. I would assume that if they're getting cut off, then the group would understand why anyway and the person getting cut off would probably be too drunk to even care or control their emotions either way... I could easily see pulling them away from the group and talking with them "person-to-person" making things even more awkward considering you are still singling them out. Sometimes I believe that you just have to "call-it-like-you-see-it" even if there are witnesses around to notice and possibly cause embarrassment to the individual. Fact is, if you don't want to be embarrassed, then know your limit!!! haha.

      +Mark Osterhout But, us as bartenders we need to be cautious when cutting someone off, because as a customer, there is nothing more frustrating than being cut-off before youre actually acting intoxicated. However, the way I look at it is, sort of like Beer Pong rules. In other words.. It's House Rules, meaning that customers should always give bartenders the respect that they deserve, because in those moments we as bartenders have the authority over them as Judge, Jury, and Executioner. You dont like it, then take your business elsewhere!

      Once i was alone in the bar at a usual monday evening, at about 1 A.M. 35 german drunk kids came into the bar and started to all grabbing my attention and being quite the challenge, in that situation I had to cut off alcohol for everyone to avoid having called the cops on the bar for being to loud and misbehaving. One guy at that evening drafted his beer when I was busy doing something else and bragged in front of his friends, I did call this one out in front of his friends and told "if im seeing you one more time doing something like this im kicking you out", i didnt like to be that guy in that situation but sometimes if it gets overly busy you need to make decisions that focus on the well being of everyone and your bar.

    if somebody does get cut off is it more about how they might be acting or how much they really drank?

    • @BartendingPro
      @BartendingPro  Před 9 lety +3

      +royalblue1193 Acting, unless like I mention, there is an ESTABLISHMENT based rate, like X# of drinks limit. Otherwise it's how someone is tolerating, or more specifically not tolerating their booze. Hypothetically, someone with a low tolerance can be done after like a beer a couple shots, vs someone with a huge tolerance might be able to put back 5, 6, 10 drinks before they get sloppy.

    • @TheDutchking90
      @TheDutchking90 Před 8 lety

      +BartendingPro Can the bartender still assume responsibility if a person with a high tolerance leaves the establishment, gets pulled over by an officer, and blows over the legal limit? Are we to make sure that the customer doesn't have too high of a blood-alcohol level before leaving? Is it our fault if they do?...
