It was more because Shinee turned up in full costume to the SM Halloween party in 2012 when no one else did 😂 (they had a fan meet before the party in full costume too lol) That's when the trend started and when also SM started to give prizes for the best costumes.

I know others have pointed it out already but I just want to say more accurately that it’s because they always go 100% full on extra on the costumes every year while the other SM people used to just do something low effort like cheap store bought costumes and cat ears. Shinee upped the costume game and it became a thing! Everyone in the group is extra but Key and Onew like to go 200% - their McDonalds and Colonel Sanders fight will go down in SM History as the best cat fight ever. Key wins best costume most years and Onew won last year, definitely check out the costumes 😆 they deserve the wins!

The "bride" is taking what she considers are the best parts of each member and stitching them together to create the perfect "groom": Key's head, Taemin's eyes, Onew's nose, Jonghyun's lips, and Minho's face structure. You see her prototype at the very end within the title. Due to its macabre but funny concept, the August 2015 MV quickly became the ultimate favorite Halloween bop for Westerners. "View" introduced the Tropical/Deep House genre to Kpop. The concept was that SHINee was being kidnapped from their very busy, hectic schedule to go on a fun vacation with those very lovely Thai girls. The entire MV was shot in Thailand. This is a very popular ad beloved SHINee song. Another unique thing with SHINee is that they often do MVs with girls whereas it was frowned upon and not a popular option in very conservative Kpop. SHINee's "Married to the Music" was released in 2015 and it's supposed to be fun and upbeat, because they are "Married to the Music." The MV has a very "Rocky Horror Picture Show" vibe, and it's just about as iconic of a cult classic as that movie as well. In the MV the girl in the wedding dress was collecting the best body parts from each of the members to create her ideal man. She burned Minho's head because what she wanted was his body. She used fire because Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma" because of his passion for life and sports and his need to always win. Minho has the best body of the group so, she took Minho's body, Key's head, Onew's nose, Taemin's eyes and Jonghyun's lips (for obvious reasons. LOL). Then at the end she spliced them all together and formed her perfect guy. If you notice, in the end credits you see a person that has been created from all of the members' body parts which is supposed to be the guy the girl created. In other words, music is a very fickle girl and she controls your life by picking and choosing the best parts and mashes them together to create the perfect song. LOL. We now know where Key gets his sassy personality from because we discover he is full of lemons. And when she takes Onew's nose we see Onew's blood is orange like nacho cheese because he is known for his cheesy jokes, as the "old man" of the group, etc. LOL. Their outfits and hair are supposed to look like they are dressed for a retro Halloween party. You should watch a live comeback stage, and if you do, you might notice their bow ties look like bats and their hats have witches fingers, etc. It's supposed to have that fun, campy horror/comedy look and feel. "Married to the Music" is considered a Halloween must watch within the fandom and most of us make this MV part of our Halloween tradition every year. However, this song and MV came out in August, nowhere near Halloween. Halloween isn't really a big deal in Korea and it has only been in the last few years that Koreans have started to celebrate Halloween by holding costume parties. Halloween in Korea is pretty much a western culture transplant. But, the middle of summer is horror season in Korea. Koreans say they like to watch scary movies and shows in the summer because it gives them chills which cools them down when it is hot. So, that's probably why they came up with this concept for "Married to the Music" as an August comeback theme. SHINee really are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee where designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to come up with a style and sound that has never been done before. And yet, it still always ends up feeling and sounding like SHINee. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will NEVER hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. May I suggest a dance focus for your next SHINee reaction. Try some mv's where you can really see the complex, innovative, choreo they are renowned for, and appreciate what superb dancers they are. Everybody is the famous iconic one you absolutely have to do first. And then I highly recommend Your Number dance version (Black). They are so handsome, elegant and sexy in that mv and the dancing is out of this world. You won't know where to look, your eyes will be on swivels. After you watch that you REALLY won't be able to pick a bias. And Onew will kill you at the end, Ja. If you are doing 3 mv's in one reaction, then add Dream Girl or Sherlock. You must watch SHINee world 4 concert. That's a whole different level of Concert. Queen of all concerts. The setlist is top notch... Their performances are on another level. Just words aren't enough to describe it. I might have watched it more than 30 times and I can't get enough of it
NCT's whole group concept is based on dreams and dreaming. So most of what they do has something to do with some aspect of dreaming or being in a dream state. So in NCT-U's "Boss" MV, what I think you see being depicted in the ceiling of the dome is something to do with the fact that it is all a dream, as well as pretty much everything that is happening in the MV. It all has to do with a dream. As you saw, "Boss" has 7 members -- Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas and Mark. "Boss" came out in 2018 and this was Lucas' official debut as a member of NCT. This is how he was introduced, and, at the time, everyone wanted to know who the cute blond rapper was -- the one who tips the chairs. But for us fans who have been following NCT since day one, we already knew Lucas. Lucas was actually first featured as an extra in Ten's "Dream in a Dream" solo MV in 2017 and we had seen him as part of NCT's SMRookies activities as well. The concept was that SHINee was being kidnapped from their very busy, hectic schedule to go on a fun vacation with those very lovely Thai girls. The entire MV was shot in Thailand. This is a very popular ad beloved SHINee song. Another unique thing with SHINee is that they often do MVs with girls whereas it was frowned upon and not a popular option in very conservative Kpop. However, SHINee was so known for their very clean and non-scandalous image. Plus, they are very close to their female compatriots in SM, especially Key. It was common to see them interacting with female artists. Therefore, they could get away with what was considered racier MV images than other groups.
For SHINee, although they had quite a bit of creative license before this, 2015 saw them really go full-blown with that license. The album, "Odd' included "View" with lyrics written by Jonghyun, the title track, "Odd Eye" was written and composed by Jonghyun, and the fashion design was done by Key, who subsequently also became an actual fashion director for SM. It also included a new sound for SHINee - which is a common occurrence for SHINee because they are a contemporary and experimental group.
"Odd" became one of their top selling albums. It ranked first on the Gaon charts, in the top 10 on Billboard's Heatseeker Albums chart, and #1 in Billboard's World Albums chart for 3 consecutive weeks. "Odd" was also THE ONLY Kpop album to be listed for the "Albums of Glory" by the Arena Homme+ Magazine. "Married to the Music" was the title of the repackaged "Odd" album.
The accolades from music critics and awards that were won for this album/songs just further proved that it was best to continue to let SHINee make their own decisions and forge their own path.
Red Velvet debuted in 2014 and this MV came out in August of 2015. Usually, when SHINee came out with a new MV, the style would become a trend for other groups to emulate or borrow from. This is actually STILL going on. If you are a long-time SHINee fan, you can see previous SHINee concepts incorporated into many other stages, MVs, and performances from a myriad of other later groups. In fact, I could name one very big group that has used at least 4 of SHINee's concepts to great acclaim proving they followed the SHINee blueprint to success. This is just one of the reasons why SHINee are considered the biggest trendsetters of Kpop.

Jonghyun is highly respected as a singer/songwriter and he was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. SHINee were actually the ones to introduce deep house style music to the Kpop industry with "View."
"View" was even voted by the Korean public as one of the songs that needs to make a comeback in 2021, because it was so ahead of its time in 2015 that people didn't appreciate it for what it was. It has now become one of SHINee's most popular songs. Yes, all the members are adults in this MV. Onew is 25, Jonghyun had just turned 25, Key is 23, Minho is 23 and Taemin is 21.
As I think you know, Key is SM's director of fashion, and he often is the one that designs SHINee's outfits for their MVs and concerts. So, the look and concept for this MV was all created by Key in collaboration with their stylists. He decided he wanted their looks to emulate skater-boy fashion and in order to accomplish that they actually went to the local markets and purchased the clothes for this MV and their comeback stage outfits right off the rack. Which had them setting their own trend yet again, and doing something that no one else was doing at the time. (Everything SHINee does is trendsetting, including their fashion. They are known for their huge influence on the fashion industry in Korea. SHINee is the group that is known for being the first to do almost everything. They start the trend and everyone else follows.)
Fun fact: This MV was filmed in Thailand, so the actresses are all Thai. The funny thing is, the girls don't speak Korean.The SHINee members said they really didn't interact much with the girls when not filming because they couldn't communicate with them.
If you look up the lyrics for "View" you will see that the song is about being mesmerized and sort of brainwashed by the beautiful view as seen within a dream.The MV seems to be about living in the dream of being like a normal group of young men hanging out with friends and having fun in the summer without anything to worry about. However, SHINee have been kidnapped by the girls, and although they end up having fun hanging out together, I think why we hear the police sirens at the end is because the police are coming to rescue SHINee. If you notice, even though they are having fun most of the time, whenever the girls get close to them, SHINee pushes them away, or looks away.
So SHINee are not necessarily 100% OK with everything that is happening.

As someone who's gone through this "Heart eyes for SHINee" phase only 2 years back, it's really so sweet to see how much you love them already!! They truly have that effect on everyone. And, to answer your question, NO....they have no bad song, just songs that you maybe don't vibe to as much but love watching the live performances of nevertheless.
On that note, be prepared before you dive into their live performances.... those can change your entire opinion about songs!!! As a fandom, we shawols take real pride in their stage presence. IU, who you probably know, debuted in the same year as SHINee and mentioned that senior and junior artists used to watch rookie SHINee do their dry rehearsals for music shows, because it was so surprising to see a rookie group sing live and do such hard choreo. Also, one of SHINee's agency sunbaenims - Yunho of TVXQ (a group renowned for their live performances too) - apparently gives peptalks and tips to all his juniors before SMTown concerts. He and others have mentioned how he's never had to do that to SHINee because they are so good they don't need any pointers....rather, as a joke, he gets competitive over whose live performance is better - his or SHINee's.

SHINee's "Married to the Music" was released in 2015 and it's supposed to be fun and upbeat, because they are "Married to the Music." The MV has a very "Rocky Horror Picture Show" vibe, and it's just about as iconic of a cult classic as that movie as well.
In the MV the girl in the wedding dress was collecting the best body parts from each of the members to create her ideal man. She burned Minho's head because what she wanted was his body. She used fire because Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma" because of his passion for life and sports and his need to always win. Minho has the best body of the group so, she took Minho's body, Key's head, Onew's nose, Taemin's eyes and Jonghyun's lips (for obvious reasons. LOL). Then at the end she spliced them all together and formed her perfect guy. If you notice, in the end credits you see a person that has been created from all of the members' body parts which is supposed to be the guy the girl created. In other words, music is a very fickle girl and she controls your life by picking and choosing the best parts and mashes them together to create the perfect song. LOL.
We now know where Key gets his sassy personality from because we discover he is full of lemons. And when she takes Onew's nose we see Onew's blood is orange like nacho cheese because he is known for his cheesy jokes, as the "old man" of the group, etc. LOL.
Their outfits and hair are supposed to look like they are dressed for a retro Halloween party. You should watch a live comeback stage, and if you do, you might notice their bow ties look like bats and their hats have witches fingers, etc. It's supposed to have that fun, campy horror/comedy look and feel.
"Married to the Music" is considered a Halloween must watch within the fandom and most of us make this MV part of our Halloween tradition every year. However, this song and MV came out in August, nowhere near Halloween. Halloween isn't really a big deal in Korea and it has only been in the last few years that Koreans have started to celebrate Halloween by holding costume parties. Halloween in Korea is pretty much a western culture transplant. But, the middle of summer is horror season in Korea. Koreans say they like to watch scary movies and shows in the summer because it gives them chills which cools them down when it is hot. So, that's probably why they came up with this concept for "Married to the Music" as an August comeback theme.
SHINee really are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee where designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to come up with a style and sound that has never been done before. And yet, it still always ends up feeling and sounding like SHINee. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in.
With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will NEVER hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit.
Case in point, SHINee is known as one of the very first groups to ever dress up in full costume for Halloween. They first did it for a fan meeting in 2013 and then they decided to show up to SM's annual company dinner in costume. Which is what gave Lee SooMan (the founder of SM) the idea to hold a costume party. Now SM is known for holding one of the largest costume parties every year. (The event is like the met gala of Halloween parties, and is usually attended by some of the biggest name celebrities in Korea.) As part of the party there is a costume contest and, in the past, the person with the best costume has won an all expenses paid vacation trip. (SM Entertainment members are known for being some of the most competitive. They are the ones who go all out when it comes to dressing up -- always trying to outdo each other. So it's a pretty steep competition among the top contenders every year. And each year they have to come up with something better than what anyone did the year before.) Key is very competitive when it comes to fashion, costumes included, and the last time he attended the Halloween party in 2018 he won. He came as Voldemort from Harry Potter. May I suggest a dance focus for your next SHINee reaction. Try some mv's where you can really see the complex, innovative, choreo they are renowned for, and appreciate what superb dancers they are. Everybody is the famous iconic one you absolutely have to do first. And then I highly recommend Your Number dance version (Black). They are so handsome, elegant and sexy in that mv and the dancing is out of this world. You won't know where to look, your eyes will be on swivels. After you watch that you REALLY won't be able to pick a bias. And Onew will kill you at the end, Ja. If you are doing 3 mv's in one reaction, then add Dream Girl or Sherlock. Nope, SHINee does not have a single bad song. Not even one. As for M2TM, you should watch the dance performance MV!!! The choreo for this song is amazing! And just wait until you see Jinki’s special choreo moment-I have no clue how he was able to do that while singing, but he did it during live performances/stages, also. You must watch SHINee world 4 concert. That's a whole different level of Concert. Queen of all concerts. The setlist is top notch... Their performances are on another level. Just words aren't enough to describe it. I might have watched it more than 30 times and I can't get enough of it
NCT's whole group concept is based on dreams and dreaming. So most of what they do has something to do with some aspect of dreaming or being in a dream state. So in NCT-U's "Boss" MV, what I think you see being depicted in the ceiling of the dome is something to do with the fact that it is all a dream, as well as pretty much everything that is happening in the MV. It all has to do with a dream.
As you saw, "Boss" has 7 members -- Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas and Mark.
"Boss" came out in 2018 and this was Lucas' official debut as a member of NCT. This is how he was introduced, and, at the time, everyone wanted to know who the cute blond rapper was -- the one who tips the chairs. But for us fans who have been following NCT since day one, we already knew Lucas. Lucas was actually first featured as an extra in Ten's "Dream in a Dream" solo MV in 2017 and we had seen him as part of NCT's SMRookies activities as well.
They actually went all the way to the Ukraine to shoot the MV for "Boss."
