    Never really knew about wedge until now. I would have bridged a single division and then added edge loops to it with edge flow. This is much faster and better results. Thanks!

    u can even go simpler and faster with wedge tool , u don't need to create cylinder all u need to do is select an edge (any poly edge) that exist vertically under the selected face and then wedge (u can snap cube there and select its edge), after that u can simply controll the curveture by selecting wedge node and changing centerY attribute in the channel box ,i saw ur 2 parts videos to explain why when selecting 2 edges of the cylinder gives u the expected result is that when selecting 2 edges maya use the middle between the 2 of them which in ur case directly under the face , the selected edge in wedge tool is a rotation axis for the extrude faces ,imgine selecting the face and changing pivot to the edge then rotate the face from there,that's how wedge tool work but with extruding new faces

      @malcolm341  Před měsícem

      Nice, your method is even faster. You could even just add a temp edge to your first mesh and not even need a second mesh to select the edge on. Great trick, thanks for sharing.

    I would just add an easier way for adjusting the pivot for scaling at the end. You can hold D+Ctrl and then the pivot will align with selected edge but will not change position. That way you can save couple of moves :)
    You can also change pivot position without rotating it with D+Shift and aim component with D+Ctrl+Shift.
    Anyway, great tutorial for wedging! Thanks a lot.

    I setup hotkeys to toggle cv's, verts etc. and also you can turn on face centers. It doesn't help the perfect right turn thing but you can snap then to face centers for instance the curve instead of having to sub divide the geo and then change pivot to there. Turn on face centers for that.

      @@malcolm341 I should find this useful while designing my cycle frame. like you said its important that there is equal measurements on both sides of things otherwise things go off whack. eye balling and drawing will not be so accurate and some models demand accuracy and symmetry. i play around with maya and often find myself lost in the mesh. most of the times i end up scrapping my work and starting over in a new file. another challenge i face is with applying boolean. some say maya boolean has bugs in it but when it comes to complex models. but boolean is another story. maybe you have explained boolean tips and tricks in another video ill check. • @malcolm341
      @malcolm341  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks a lot, I don't have a Patreon because I couldn't think of any perks to offer people. I think on gumroad I can set up a monthly subscription though, is this something you think people would be interested in? And as a subscriber would you expect extra perks or are you just looking for somewhere to give a monthly donation? In the mean time you can always buy more of my products if you want to give extra support. I plan to do some paid tutorials in the near future as well which would be project based and take a prop from start to finish. That will hopefully be coming sometime next year. To answer your question about the best 3D software, for me the best 3D software is the one you know how to use, period. I've seen amazing art come out of all softwares so just stick with the one you know, it's usually the artist skill rather than the software anyways. I know Maya the best so I can get my stuff done the quickest, so Maya is the best for me. I've also used Max professionally and the stack is amazing, but it's not worth me switching for since I'm just more comfortable in Maya. If I was going to switch to a new software for some reason I would seriously consider Blender, it is looking more and more like Maya with the latest update and it has the power of the history stack from Max, and it has a lot of cool plugins. Professionally it doesn't matter what software you know, most studios will train you on the software they use if you land the job. On the last game I worked on we used Maya exclusively, but we hired three Max artists and then they had to learn Maya, it wasn't an issue, they just had to give up on Max if they wanted to work on our game.
