I’m near 70 and wasn’t a fan of Queen when I was young. I watched Bohemian Rhapsody and fell in love with the story, the music and the message Freddie was conveying. Now I am a Queen fan… better late than never!
WOW--Same with me. I'm 67, always loved Queen's music when I was young but never really knew much about the band itself. BoRap had me in tears. I've watched it more times than I can recall and have been watching every video I can find on Freddie Mercury and the awesome band. My older son (35) is a huge Queen/Mercury fan!!
Same...fellow Michele with one L! And my son became obsessed after watching the movie. Now we listen to Queen together!
The movie definitely embellished heavily for the sake of making entertaining drama, but most of the bullet points were pretty spot on, and this scene alone had the highest priority for 1:1 replication out of any other section. This scene is probably the closest we'll ever have to Bluray quality recording equipment at the actual concert. There were straight up points in reviewing the footage from the real concert where cast and crew could not tell it from what they were recording for the movie, they were that specific about replicating it beat for beat.

Rami did such a beautiful job and definitely deserved that Oscar, I don't care what anybody says Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my favorite films and it's so beautiful and I may have dropped a tear or two when I first saw it

I remember when Freddy passed away - it was one of the saddest moments of my life. I didn't have the luck to listen to him live, but as long as there are people on Earth, he will be remembered!

I was driving to work and the radio station played 3 queen songs back to back,then announced that Freddie had died, I nearly crashed the car ,R.I.P Freddie,you will never be forgotten

I am currently 59 years old and grew up on Queen, Boston. Aerosmith .... you name it. (I also loved a lot of the up-and-coming bands that came out of Boston and the local areas.) One of my biggest regrets was not being able to see Queen live, in concert. It was always something: no money for tickets or couldn't get the time off from work. I was 21 years old and remember watching Live Aid on TV and just being in my total glory - I couldn't be there however that was the next best thing. Freddy was a real legend, and he is much missed.
We can't really compare ! Freddie had that unique charisma that just draws you in.

True. Nothing like Freddie. Same clothes, teeth (why???) and a good imitation of the moves that's all. Freddie was full of life and joy and that was missing completely.
How many times did Rami watch this very same live version to get each movement down like second nature! Great actor.
Agree and good to mention credit the other actors and impressed with the drummer acting as well in this video comparison.
I remember this entire concert, it was unbelievable. BUT, Queen owned it, Freddie Mercury was amazing and the spontaneity of the crowd interaction was something that Hollywood could only dream of concocting. People have their finest hours in life and this was Queens.

I'm not an emotional person but this raises a tear. Perhaps partly because I was lucky enough to see Queen at Wembley in 1986 supported by Status Quo. Freddie somehow filled the stadium with his presence. It can't be explained, it had to be experienced.

Thanks to the person who has provided us with a direct comparison of an historic concert with a filmed reconstruction of the same event. This has made me so much more aware of how skilled Rami Malek was in portraying such a dynamic character as Freddie Mercury. Today we are so cavalier about the intense work that goes into special effects and such but Rami had to study Freddie’s mannerisms to the enth degree to carry it off so perfectly. To those who criticize this performance … and how could you just looking at this great simultaneous comparison … just get over yourself! So there!
Absolutely! I understand that Rami even visited London , took voice/singing lessons and piano lessons. Learned Freddie’s movements.

The Live Aid section was the first thing they filmed during production, reportedly because they figured that if they couldn't get such an iconic performance right, the rest of the film would be pointless.

I regularly play my copy of my 4k copy of Bohemian Rapsody. I love it. I saw it the cinema and pre ordered it. I love watching the actual live aid version as well. I just love watching Freddie Mercury. He was amazing.

But I can understand why people always talking about Freddie Mercury and not them. He died at a young age because of AIDS and he announced that he had the disease only 1 day before he died. And he's the soloist of the group.
Thanks to whoever put this up. At the beginning of the Queen movie.I thought rami male was never going to work but by the end I could hardly tell the difference between him and Freddie. An amazing performance and what a tribute.

Something tells me that Freddie would be really happy and proud to know that this movie brought people’s interest back to his music and helped younger generations to get acquainted with the music and the band. I think hes smiling down on this and Adam Lambert touring with Brian and Roger.

I'm nearly 60 and saw the live-aid concert live on t.v. and still think Queens set was the best set in rock n roll history.
First, nobody will EVER be Freddie Mercury again. He is and will always be, the one and only. Second, this was a wonderful comparison. It was nice to see how great the cinematography was in the movie compared to reality.

I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody at the cinemas and I expected the film to be terrible but when I saw it I was blown away at how well Rami Malek played the role of Freddie Mercury

Other than the huge teeth in the makeup job which reminded me of Mr Wilson in the Dennis The Menace in the 1993 movie, but I'm sure he didn't do his own makeup. I think Rami did an awesome job with the music. I didn't care for the movie though, I thought it was just glorifying their chosen lifestyle but I wasn't commenting on the lifestyle while blatantly ignoring the risk of that lifestyle, I was commenting on the music and how he acted related to how Freddie Mercury acted while in concert. Have you ever seen Freddie Mercury in concert or met him in person? If not, then who are you to correct me.

I genuinely cannot tell a difference between Freddie and Rami's singing it's incredible. Rami did a stupendous job but you can't take anything away from the original which is obviously better cause it's Freddie and the guys and the originals are always the best
