That’s my hometown Philly baby!! I was around 7 then and I remember wanting one so bad. Crying and sobbing . My parents tried like these people and couldn’t get it. Then we went to a family friend’s house for a Christmas function and I was handed a present. I ripped it open and there it was! A pretty black cabbage patch doll with a yellow dress. I was so happy ! These were great times
People were literally fighting over these dolls when they first came out. Then in July 1996, Tickle Me Elmo came out and the same thing happened. Parents fighting over them to get for their kids. Weird how people do those kinds of things.
Straight culture is really messed up. They think we're crazy (in the LGBT). Lesbians don't do shit like this. We'd never be up at dawn to go fight over a doll. I'd fight like that over the last beer, though.
@@crazy8skml yep that too. And here recently, the Zhu Zhu pets. I remember when I was still working in retail, those things were selling like hotcakes.
I had no idea that Xavier Roberts didn't even invent these damn things, he basically ripped off the entire look and gimmick from a nice lady who asked very little of the arrangement, which he ignored. Then he had the gall to sue Topps for satirizing the dolls with the Garbage Pail Kids. What a shame that ruthless greedy bastards are usually the ones who get ahead in this world.
I feel like these aren’t Karens. They were upset because they waited the longest and did not get to choose, but people after them who waited less DID get to choose. The store should have been consistent in how they distributed the toys.
Had to reserve one sight unseen at a store and had no choice boy or girl, luckily it was a girl. Absolutely crazy time and the dolls weren’t even cute !
I was a teenager when this happened and for the life of me I could not figure out why these people were fighting over the ugliest doll ever made. This was marketing at its absolute finest.
"Ugly" to you but I find the Cabbage Patch kids incredibly cute and adorable! :) 1980s had its problems but also truly seemed magical. I was born in 1996 and I do not think that these were the "ugliest dolls ever made" there are ones that are actually ugly LOL.
Boy! I was 9 in Christmas 1983. My aunt was very smart to get Cabbage Patch Kids for me and cousin, while she works at Best in Garland or Dallas, Texas. She hidden them somewhere! I got girl!
Honestly, the people complaining about getting a boy doll should have looked behind them and been grateful to have one at all! If that had been me, I would have gladly taken a boy doll.
At least their boys had hair! Although I can understand why they were upset. They were there earlier and couldn’t choose, but people after them DID get to choose. That’s sorta crappy. The store should have been consistent with their rules.
Karens were a rarer breed back then, it seemed, but not uncommon. Making a public scene was frowned upon. Now it's worse and turned into a sport or even staged and then posted on social media for clicks, likes and profit. Calgon take me away ... sigh ...
The fact that I still have mine from 1983

Oh man, a little black one in yellow! I bet she was a cutie pie! Do you remember her name?

The things people do for their kids, I swear
Don’t forget the Furby craze lol
@@crazy8skml yep that too. And here recently, the Zhu Zhu pets. I remember when I was still working in retail, those things were selling like hotcakes.
Beanie Babies was also a huge craze.
Legend has it, those people at 5:02 are still waiting in that line

He didn't just sue Topps, he sued independent doll makers sewing look-alikes who would sell them at craft fairs
I’m kinda glad he did, I didn’t really like the look of her dolls
@@Literally_Kyle I think they're all ugly. :P
Wow ! 40 years ago. I remember the craze because I am getting old. Ha ha.
Pixar’s ‘Toy story’ can’t compete with this toy story.
KAREN: I got a boy, I wanted a girl.
ME: Jeez, lady. Be glad you got anything!
That lady with the cigarette is my spirit animal.
....KARENS NEVER CHANGE ....

I still have my original CPK from 1983. I was 7 that year. This was the best Christmas!
This store was my childhood Kiddie City.

80s Karens

lol...very true!

@@Jew-Gi-Oh_419nah they were pretty goofy looking 😅
Because they were unique and hard to get which made them even more desirable.
I wanted one and ended up with a knock off. People died trying to get these dolls.
Just out of curiosity what was so special about them ?
At least they weren’t murdering each other over it. Fast forward to todays times and you’d probably get robbed of it.
From what I understand people were getting robbed and killed🤣

Wow
Yep I had one in New Zealand aged 10 (1983)

Me too! Boy Cabbies are awesome.
I wanted one so bad as a little girl.
The boy.dolls were cute too. I'm sure the little girls who got them were happy.

All these Long Island complaining Cathys.

I bet the black one got returned
I had Russian twins that had passports. Heidi and Porsha. They were really expensive. $200-$300 dollars each.
Instead of "Kiddie City", Gaggle maps sent me to "Twitty City" instead and I ended up with a boy doll named 'Conway'. 🤪😵💫🤡
That’s actually one of the funniest things I’ve read in a while! Well played! 🤣
The only time Barbie wasn't the most popular doll
I wish I could tell them stuff from the future
Online shopping was coming people
