This is the first film using the GH5 that I consider to look 'cinematic'. Nice! Can't wait to see daylight footage that has a more cinematic feel to it.
I agree. The terms "cinematic" and "film look" get thrown around a lot, but this footage is the real deal. Nice work.
Lovely, beautiful, and fantastic.
Shaka thank you!
Watched many GH5 footage, but this one might be one of the most cinematic Ive seen, well done :)
Thijs Goedegebuure thank you! :)
Fantastic, this was the last video I watched before placing my pre-order 👍🏻
NFoxtv glad I could help!
That 5 axis Ibis shot walking thru water was very nice !
MyLifeIn4K I was very impressed by the 5 axis!
Really nice colors! Well done :)
CAMERA CAVE thanks!
Very nice,! Care tp share how / what you graded this with?
Kiril Dobrev thanks! it's just graded in premier pro, it was after the sun set and it was a very grey almost blue day so all I had to do with pull the teal colours a bit more to be more prominent.
Well you did a fine job sir! So no LUTs were used?
Kiril Dobrev thanks! I did start out with a very basic LUT to just see how the image reacted, I then changed the image from there
Great video, great camera keep it up man !
Kieran Way thanks!
Looks good.
SenorQuill thanks!
God I want this camera so bad.
amazing
CVisuals thanks!
How did you achieve that look at 0:58 . What was the exact color grade method? Please let me know. I fell in love with that.
Aaron Toth first thank you and it's done by i started out with pulling out the blue in the image, it was very over cast and the sun had already gone down so it wasn't difficult in really getting the blue to pop, i like teals myself so i made them much more prominent and then just played with the image from there till it ended up like this!
great video! And you answer every question down below, props! I pre-ordered mine. The only thing I'm still curious about is the in-body automatic 'warp' stabilizing. Is that an additional stabilizing feature which you can turn off in the settings? I saw there was an option to turn on/off something related to stabilization but I heard that had something to do with pre-cropping additional stabilization. In short, I dont wan't the camera to distort the image. just stabilize the x and y axis, not the z-axis of the image. Is that possible?
PS: apologies for the excessive use of the word stabilizing/stabilization
Mr Kees de Koning thank you! and the camera has 5 axis, with the stabilised sensor, and a stabilised lens. you can have digital stabilisation, I wouldn't recommend it because it is cropping in! if your on an extreme telephoto and your hand held maybe you can use it, but like I said I wouldn't recommend
What would you get, this or an Ursa mini 4.6k, not sure what to do. The depth of field on the gh5 is not shallow enough for me. But it's a more versatile camera...
airjaff it's going to come down to you really and what you want to shoot. this is definitely more run and gun, you'll be able to get stuff much easier etc but the black magic will be a better over all film camera. I haven't shot with the black magic so I can't really say, I'd test out both cameras if you can and see witch one you naturally go towards
This looks fucking lit
RAV thanks!
What lens did you use?
Amazing Color! How did you do it?
Rayhanur kabir it's graded in premier pro!
my lord did you shoot this in weston super mare ? i take photos of the pier quite frequently ! the sunsets are just awesome !
Josh Maguire Creative yeah it was :) shot on the the 1st of Feb
Mirror Image Pictures Jeeze I saw the pier and thought is that Weston. Well done you made it look nice!
airjaff thanks!
V CR this is shot on the new 12-60 mm f2.8-4.0 kit lens
I'm still not sure which kit I would choose. 12-60mm f/2.8-4 or 12-35mm f/2.8? More reach and versatility or constant f/2.8? Hopefully there will be more head-to-head of these two lenses.
theSUBVERSIVE this was all filmed on the new 12-60 mm, I would like to try out the other len though!
Yeah, I read your reply, that's why I mentioned the 12-60mm. I really like the reach and I would probably get a Sigma 18-35mm for low light and shallow DOF, I would be more hesitant with the GH4 but since the GH5 has improved noise and low light performance, losing half a stop by 35mm isn't that bad, plus you get 25mm of extra reach at the cost of a stop. I could eventually get the 35-100mm f/2.8 but I wonder how practicality would weight on that as well - plus the extra cost to it.
At first I wanted the 12-35, then I changed my mind, then I thought that a 12-35mm would be enough and now I'm leaning toward the 12-60 again! hahahaha...
How has been your experience with it? Mainly in terms of how much light you lose as you zoom in. Can you tell by which focal length the aperture changes? Someone replied me this, can you confirm? I'm curious what's the aperture by 35mm.
12mm F2.8; 14mm F2.8; 18mm F3.2; 25mm F3.5; 40mm F3.9; 50mm F3.9; 60mm F4.0
theSUBVERSIVE from what I used of the lens it was very good in the situation I was in, it definitely won't get you those depth of field shots, but as an all round lens it is very good
For my final setup I will probably have a prime or two for a compact setup (possibly 20mm f/1.7 and 45 f/1.8), but I want the versatility when choosing a kit lens, the rest I will choose a focal reducer and either a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 and a 18-35 f/1.8, or possibly both, which should be great for shallower DOF and low light. Other than that possibly a 7-14 f/4 or the upcoming 8-18mm f/2.8-4 for wide angle.
So if I have the means to do it, that's what I would buy, for a b-cam that can also act as my only tele option, I think the FZ2500 might be a good option rather than buying another body and a tele zoom. But as I said, IF I have the means, which I don't, but over time, who knows? hahahaha...
On that part where you're moving to the right of the bridge: If feels like a dolly but I'm curious was that in camera stabilization?
Matthew Peer if your talking about the second to last shot the camera was on a tripod and I'm walking holding the tripod, I put a small bit of warp stabiliser on in post just to take the bumps out a little
okay, sweet. Looks fantastic! Can't wait to play with this camera in March.
Need a new video!!!
Did you use any type of rig?
Tyler Casey Productions I did not, most of the film was hand held, with the off tripod here and there. I wish I had a Ronin of some kind to try it out on though!
All good! I like seeing the camera pushed to its limits.
what about post production how did you grade it?
SeeWhatYouSee it's graded in premier pro, leaning heavily on the blue and teal colours
Wat lens did he use fir this video?!
Michael Castruita was shot on the new 12-60mm f2.8-4.0
Nice video! What lens did you use? Can you make some autofocus test? Thanks :-)
Danilo Del Tufo thanks! it's the 12-60mm new kit lens and I should be able to in my GH4 vs GH5 video I'm working on!
Great, I'll wait for your new video, I'd really like to see some autofocus test, because I've seen poor examples about it. I forget to ask you if you shot handled, in particular in the scene at 1:23. Have a nice day!
Defiantly want to see auto focus for running the gh5 with the ronin-m!
Great job! Very nice look! What lens did you use?
Thanks! And the lens was the 12-60mm f4 kit lens option
Was it all shot internal directly to the camera or did you use an external recorder like the atomos shogun/ninja flame?
Basil Al-Amayra this was all shot to an internal SD card
is it anamorphic or just cropped top and bottom? or stretched?
poppingZiben unfortunately not anamorphic, just cropped top and bottom
Hey, isn't this a Philip Bloom hangout?
Perry Morris Media it's Weston Super Mare, a bit more bud than Brighten!
lens?
Beso Gociridze leica 12-60mm kit lens
Hi, great footage! what lens were you using on the GH5 whilst filming this? thanks,
Tale Production - Video Production this was filmed with the more expensive Lica kit lens
Great thanks,
Is it possible that you recorded in 30 but rendered in 24 or 25p?
when panning, it jitters a lot.
Le_Andy B I shot in 24fps and used premier pro to use the first clip as the setting for the time line
Mirror Image Pictures all right. thanks for the reply :)
Great job!
What was the highest iso that u set in this video?
Did you get lots of noise? And did you denoise footages in post?
Paweł Marczuk the most I went up so was 1600 on the odd zoom clip, a lot of it was shot around 200 but non of the footage has been denoised
1600 with no noise....impresive!
Thanks
Paweł Marczuk they have definitely improved the ISO noise with the gh5
Hi, another nice video after Neumann's, from the GH5, finally. Seems like you have protected the highlights, I wonder how much detail have you had before the grading and how it looked. The hill at 1:07 has some detail despite the high contrast, but the pier underside is crushed, what is your opinion on DR on this model before you graded?
Bizzino Rosso Films I could say off the top of my head what the DP is but I was impressed for the most part of how well it did. the scene under the pier it graded a bit darker to make it contrasty
Sorry I meant the Dynamic Range
Bizzino Rosso Films I'm unsure off the top of my head what the dynamic range is, but over all I was very impressed with the footage out of camera
Ok, thanks. First two shots with the water under the column, did you sped it up in post? Everything is very nicely shot, and the color grading is great, I was just interested in how it looked beforehand. Where is this beautiful town?
Bizzino Rosso Films nope the whole film is 24fps. and thank you, if more people ask I may post some footage strate from camera. and this is shot in Weston Super Mare
did you filmend at VLog ??
I did not, as this was pre production it was not available at the time.
Which frame rate was this shot in?
raredreamfootage this was shot in 24fps
Beautiful shots! Bravo! In 10 bit, 4:2:2 mode are you seeing any signs of banding showing up in your untouched footage?
Dan Hitchman thanks! and no I did not come across any banding in the footage!
Good to know! I think the GH5 is going in my shopping cart! :)
Lens?
SeeWhatYouSee it's the new 12-60 2.8-4.0 kit lens :)
so beautiful! like it :)
how was image stabilization?
Yuichi Enomoto thank you and very good!
good!!
What lens did you use for your wide shots?
Jay Donato it's all shot on the new 12-60mm
That was pretty fast! Thanks!
What is better the GH5 or the Sony A7S II
Matthew Hollis I haven't had the chance to use to use the a7sii unfortunately! would love too!
I can't go with Sony. The heat in Orlando shuts it down.
Looks very mushy... What lenses have you used?
andreiiasi it's on the 12-60mm
Not arguing with that but something is fishy. Not to worry,,keep trying you got to get there and to be honest you nearly there. Just make sure every time your on focus...but i mean focus. Hope is constructive criticism.
@andreiiasi you do know that he was shooting at 2.8 right? there is supposed to be depth of field and not everything is supposed to be in focus. You might want to watch the video at a high resolution and you will see his footage is not mushy its in focus in the right areas. He was not filming a wedding or conference. LOL
Well not anywhere in this description says it's been filmed only in 2.8 all the way through on one hand on the other yes for your benefit I did watched it at the highest resolution that CZcams allows and it helps looks better and beside that it wasn't a criticism... I was just wondering out loud of why all this mushy look to the video . It's not all that bad at all in the end.
Am I the only one who find 4k sharpness too distracting? It seems like we fall on colors and sharpness porn and it's really distracting from the content of the image. You don't want to make a movie with images and contrasts that sharp
Am I the only one seeing aliasing everywhere? Is it You tube compression or aliasing is so bad, after removing anti-aliasing filter?. Thanks for video
BIM Video Produkcija when editing there is not really any aliasing! and that's ok 👍
No aliasing in the video, It must be the scaling, what resolution is the monitor you are watching this at?
It is strange...monitor resolution is 1920x1080, but i thing i see a bit of aliasing in all gh5 test footage, not only 180p tests....There is lot of gh4 tests and movies on YT, but i dont see aliasing it those films ever...so, if monitor is problem, i should see it in all clips....Maybe i am to scared that GH5 will suffer because of removing AA filter...thanks for answer.
Yes, I understand, my biggest dilemma was the dynamic range since most of these first videos from the GH5 look very bad, crushed in blacks, and highlights are just plain ugly, but this one on contrary, looks very nice.
Regarding your first comment, when you, for example, watch video in 4k, and in small window on CZcams, it becomes aliasing hell, and that is because of scaling, simple and usually bad in browsers. That is why I asked if it was the monitor. I watch it on 1080, and 1440p monitors and on both the edges are very smooth.
Try to match the playback resolution and your monitor in full screen, do you still see aliasing?
too much of green in mids
too much colour grading
Nicholas Ten well a lot of the footage out at the time of this video has been graded to look natural/not graded so I graded little more harshly to push the 10 bit and to show something different
Mirror Image Pictures I mean the Colour is too over
Mirror Image Pictures like when it's suppose to soft, you make it darker
Nicholas Ten it's a subjective thing, some people won't like it, some people really like it! you can never please everyone so I just make stuff the way I want and if one person enjoys it I'm happy!
lens?
ccspecialblend it's the new 12-60mm f2.8-4.0
