    i like how dynamo was so broken at the start of the game that they made several changes to game mechanics themselves to nerf it (weight classes being added, white ink frames, special depletion, hitting with center of the roller oh my god)

    best part about Splat 1 Suction Rush is that the bombs didn't count as a special of its own, the actual special is the bombs' consumption being nullified, meaning you can start charging your next Suction Rush WITH THE BOMBS FROM THE PREVIOUS ONE. @@zoruasnivy TRUUUUEEEE. The biggest thing I didn't like when I got my hands on Splatoon 2 was that everything felt much less powerful, especially the specials. Personal favorites of mine like the carbon, Zink mini, dynamo, etc. all felt so much worse in splatoon 2. I know disruptor was broken, but I simply couldn't find anything that felt as evil as hitting someone with disruptor and bubbler with the Zimi. Nor could I see much success with the dynamo rollers due to the added vertical flick, nor could I have much success with the Splatoon 2 carbon when it has a worse special and much less range on the main flick. When Splatoon 2 came out, I played it for a while, then actually went back to Splatoon 1 and played that instead for years. Eventually though, it became impossible to find lobbies consistently and I switched to splatoon 2. When splat 3 comes out, that'll probably seal the deal for splatoon 1's lobbies, though it looks like the specials are going back to being wacky, fun, and broken. So I'm hyped.

    interesting takes. I recently started playing splatoon 1 again after I read that the servers are back up. it is still my favourite installment because the controls are much superior than the sequel imo. I find it interesting that you say the mine is useless. in modes like rainmaker or tower it can be nice to put a mine on the tower to avoid opponents to stay on it or put one in a spot where the opponent has to pass through to advance. I often killed 2 opponents with 1 mine.
    also I think you forgot the seeker. one of my favourite subs and I wonder how they are seen in competitive

  • @etherealswordsman3214
    @etherealswordsman3214 Před 3 lety +11

    personally, i do enjoy splatoon 1's specials quite a bit more. while the bomb rushes and bubbler were meh, and kraken was irritating to put it nicely, kraken, echo, zooka, strike, and wail were all jus so flashy and spectacular. it made the battles as fun to watch as they are to play because the bigger specials that i listed often dominated the land scape, especially zooka and wail. plus, often it only took one special and what was an orderly match instantly flipped to all out chaos, even the smaller specials could have game changing levels of power if used right.
    as for the subs, i did like seeker, but the poor turn radius made it unfortunately hard to cheese. in general, splatoon 2's subset is far more fun to play with imo.
    mains, with the vast increase in number of mains, 2 has an edge there, but the painting capability, especially on chargers, was so much more balanced. it made weapons feel more like the role that you're actually supposed to be using them for, which was good.
    over all, i think i prefer how 2 plays its mains a bit more, especially considering that if you don't bother with meta and have, say, a second account for casual play or something, you can run a lot more playstyles, so while 2's matches are slower, they're far more variable *outside* of the meta. in the meta, i think the vast amount of power specials can have on the game flow make splatoon 1's matches a bit more interesting, if less varied in playstyle.
    both are good, but i really hope nintendo learns from what *didn't* go right in both for 3. if they payed correct attention to what was going on they should have a winning formula for sure. given the splatoon team tends to listen to players more than dev teams in nintendo's other IPs, i think there's at least a chance.

    Can somebody explain the “inkstrike is just a worse Booyah Bomb” thing? You can put it literally anywhere on the map, giving it infinite range. Just go into some cover in your base and it’s free. The lack of armor doesn’t matter if you do it from safety. Sure, in a fast paced battle having to retreat to use it isn’t super ideal, but as long as no enemies can reach you you’re perfectly safe to use it on whatever spot on the map you want. You could super jump back to spawn and use it and then super jump back to an ally. Booyah can go kinda far sure, but it’s still restricted in range compared to Strike.

    Since I'm a sploosh main I might as well discuss the sploosh for anyone curious.
    Sploosh isn't a terrible choice but it's overshawdoed in this meta. It has a hard time going up aganist things like luna, carbon, CH-3, CRB, bubble, kraken and disrupter. Also the crampy stage design making it difficult to utalize the sploosh's mobility and farm speacials given the kit dependancy the sploosh suffers from.
    Also Sploosh's mobility was worse because there was no such thing as a lightweight class back then.
    If you plan on using sploosh, the neo has a unique playstyle with point sensor and kraken. Kraken especially needs to able to track it's opponenets very quickly so it good to throw out a point sensor first to tag them or let someone with echolocator track them first.
    Alternativly, you can pick a safer option with the 7. It was the best variant then and still is now in splatoon 2. Splatbombs and inkzooka cover the weaknesses of the main weapon while also having the oppotunity to deal with backliners. Vanillia sploosh on the other hand you probably don't want to use. because of beakons and killer wail.
    Overall, Sploosh o matic has a hard time keeping it up in this meta which is dominated by one shotters and invulernability speacials. I'd imagine this weapon being a running joke in the community for a long time, though in recent times sploosh o matic (thanks to the 7 variant) had gained some attention and getting traction.

    • @VGF80
      @VGF80 Před 3 lety

      Correction/Clarification(s):
      -I guess you could argue that Neo sploosh is safer because of Kraken (i.e panic button) but I just think sploosh 7's splat bomb covers the weakness of the sploosh's lackluster range which point sensor dosen't do. Also special spamming even with special charge up and light special depletion isn't as viable as simply using QR + SJ.
      -I'd classify sploosh as solid weapon that rarely gets used due to it's counters (carbon and luna) being so prominant in this game compared to the sequel.
      -By "recent times" I mean in splatoon 2.

    I remember when I played the Splatoon 1 game. My favorite weapon was the Dual Squelcher or the Splattershot. Dual Squelcher was amazing with its higher than normal damage, acceptable fire rate, and amazing range. It’s beacon sub was alright, but what I found made it broken was the special “Echolocation”. Being able to know exactly where your opponents were even if they were hiding behind walls or in their own ink was stupid, and almost always lead to a quick team from my team.
    Splattershot was stupid reliable too. It was solid all around with really good inking speed. I used the hero version since everything, even its kit, is identical to the base Scattershot. The Burst Bomb sub usually gave my opponents very little time to react since it explodes on impact, and the burst bomb rush usually lead to me absolutely decimating everything and everyone around me as soon as I unleashed it.

    * Was it played in a similar fashion as it would be in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3 (i.e., bomb spamming, special farming)?
    * Was "Battle Junior" as viable a playing style as it would be in Splatoon 2 or 3?
    * Would optimal gear abilities be similar (i.e., Sub Saver), or would the Quick Respawn/Stealth Jump meta affect Jr. as well?

    Hi Chara, I’ve been looking at koctobrush builds on sendou and noticed an awful lot of stealth jump, why is that? I feel like drop roller would be more useful since cant you still see where you’re jumping if close enough and also it makes you jump slower? How much QSJ do you need to counter that slowness? Also how much bomb ink saver for two suction bombs at full ink tank? I’ve been using 3 mains and 4 subs of it and seems to work well but not sure what minimum amount is. I think I have a little too much maybe by a couple subs. (By the way I mostly only do turf with it) Thanks :)
