Oh Dan that bloody strobe effect, glad you mentioned it. It is the worst addition to a queue line ever. It's ever worse how they're on like 3-7 second intervals and some last longer than others. It really gets on my nerves lol. I agree, they should defo make Oblivion or even Rita last a bit longer, I'd say they are the best possible coasters for a re-track as they are both pretty old. Great video once again, keep it up! 🔥

Galactica can't get an RMC
Based on age, Oblivion would be next, but i still find Oblivion to be a smooth enjoyable ride. Part of me thinks Rita goes before Air purely because its not a secret weapon and they could make something incredible in that area without digging down
Oblivion would be a logistical nightmare to remove and replace because so much is underground

I can definitely see them doing a new version of Oblivion. Same drop, except actually 90 degrees this time around, and add a lot more to it. Call it something like 'Oblivion: Limbo' or something.

I think they will work on galactica in the off season. I think it has at least ten years left in it if they maintain it properly. However, the area it sits in could be reworked to be the home of a new secret weapon
I think Rita will go. Dark Forest seems like a prime area of the park for a total retheme imo. I've always thought an Aztec Jungle theme would work well. It'd be cool to have a Mack launch coaster themed to the Aztec night god "Smoking Mirror" - and th13teen rethemed to an explorer finding and trying to plunder an Aztec temple and getting ensnarled in a trap (the drop track section).
I think the most likely roller coasters to be removed are Spinball Whizzer and Rita because they've been around for almost 20 years, they're not very popular compared to others, and they aren't very special anymore. There are many rides like spinball whizzer in the UK and Rita has pretty much been destroyed by Stealth. As for Runaway Mine Train I'm not sure if they would remove that because its iconic and one of there two family coasters (also easily the best out of the two)
Well dan,I've been to towers today and all 3 trains were running on Galactica. I also noticed all the screens and any reference to EVE seem to have been removed. The trains on Galctica were the most expensive ever built at the time so I think we are going to see a re brand and an upgrade to the theme,not a removal. RITA will be the next coaster for the chop,she's knackered bless her.
I think Galactica is unlikely to be fully removed... Maybe they could do something similar to top thrill 2, changing the layout quite a bit to make it a little more exciting, while still keeping the best elements of the ride. Obviously a re-theme would come with this... It's a very popular ride for those who don't like speed or G-forces, and it's still one of the very few flying coasters in Europe, so it would be a shame to see it go. But it's definitely not one of my personal top coasters.
Honestly though... Rita would make the most sense to remove (for now)... It's good... But it's queues aren't ever worth it. There's rides with *much* better elements and I personally never feel bad for missing out on it. Lol

you're absolutely right about the smiler's strobe effect in the queue, i did the solo rider line 3 times when i visited last year with a half hour wait each time, and the strobing and carnival music drove me mad

the complaint about the strobe effect in the smiler queue is so real 😭 i tried to go on the smiler and it shut down for an hour or so and we got stuck in the place with the strobe light for about 30 minutes (before we ended up leaving the queue since we hadn’t been in it for too long thanks to ride access pass lane) and when i tell you that light could be used as a torture method i seriously mean it

I think Towers should retrack galactica and theme it around phalanx. Maybe towers could make a pre show for it. If Towers got rid of galactica, Alton Towers would never be the same.

Galactica is my favourite ride at towers, UK even.after riding everything in towers, Blackpool, Thorpe, and flamingo land I feel nothing beats it bc it’s so special to me as it was my first “thrill ride” at towers, and I love the space vibe and soundtrack. I really do hope they give it a retheme and fix up, I would clean the tracks, have a better preshow, improve the station and make it dark with stars in the sky and make it really intergalactic. Add planets and portals outside to fly around and though. Story line could be you are the hero fighting the nemesis monster. Really hope that ride gets the love it deserves though.

Hello Dan, this is a great video and it was great to hear your persprctive, personally I think Rita is most liekyl to get removed and replaced with a new Intamin Multi Launch Rollercoaster and with regards to "Galactica" I feel a retrack and a major refurbishment as well as additional theming added to it could improve the overall ride experience throughout. i was at alton towers yesterday and galactica was running 3 trains, not sure if they have another train but im pretty sure all trains are working fine
I think with Rita they should replace the restraints with the softer restraints like on Maverick & Storm Runner because with lap bars I think your next would get injured from the lateral Gs

I think Rita will go first its old and takes up a big space so I think it's more likely and galatians has been doing really well I think there going to refurbish it before nemesis opens so the area looks amazing for nemesis.

If they was to retrack oblivion, what would people's thoughts be about extending the track? The drop is great, but that's all there really is. Imagine coming out of the tunnel straight into a vertical loop and then a pretzel knot to the station.

They should give Galactica 'the nemesis treatment' before oblivion as yes oblivion is older but i feel galactica needs it more. It should be rethemed to Air and i feel that area of the park and theming around it could have the theming like it was supposed to have before... uh budget cuts.
Even though this might not happen i do hope for it.
I feel like rita would be a good fit for somewhere like drayton manor, as it would be a good fit for a family park, first launch coaster, and a big step up
I think Oblivious days are numbered. It may have been groundbreaking in the 90s to have a vertical drop, but now a vertical drop and nothing else feels underwhelming. Perhaps they could retrack it and have a longer ride after the initial drop. Otherwise the entire principle of the ride is based on the wow factor, 30 years ago.

I say when oblivions gotten too old to operate, they might put a vekoma a tilt coaster in its place and use the area occupied by the retro squad rides for an extended layout.

Nemesis has brand new track but is it like the same way? Will it move in different ways or is it just new track to keep it longer lasting
For me, thouhh i would be slightly sad about it, replacing rita with an lsm launch maybe with a tophat that starts in a trench so it could be like 100 foot, maybe make the drip from the tophat the steepest drop or something, maybe the fastest launch in the uk, something so merlin's need for a record, well "record" cause you cant say that some of these arent really records

For thorpe the main thing I would say to go is Inferno, but it should be replaced with a taller invert

Hi Dan, First time commenter but I thought it was common knowledge that Oblivion was closing down at the end of the current season? Alton Towers posted about it on their twitter back in April.
Hello! I believe people have been pranked with that post, would assume it being in April means it was an April Fools joke haha - the park has not officially announced this so must be someone having a laugh 🙌🏻
I think there are some more points that could be made with galactica, for starters today it is running 3 trains so i don't think one is broke.
Bad points:
Galactcas trains are some of the most complicated and expensive trains in the rollercoaster industry (each seat has multiple motors and sensors and if one goes it can cause big problems,
The good:
It is good with capacity (when open) but also the station is quite intertwined with the terrain and the rollercoaster restaurant meaning probably a big change required to terrain and the restaurant if they closed it, also nemessis wasn't the best before the retrack (wasn't the airgates having a large number of problems)
Imo it seems as though it needs a retheme and repaint and after that it would be looking a lot less tired
Nemmys airgates we’re pretty unique though, they’re the only ones I’ve ever seen built like that meanwhile at Thorpe park literally every air gate design on park bare one or two was the same design

Nearly every time I've been on Galactica it's broken down while we were in the queue and I don't know if that's just bad luck. But I feel like if they worked on it in the off season and looked after it a bit then it could last alot longer
The restraints have also gotten stuck a few times but I feel like that could be fixed easily as they always sort that out pretty quickly

I'm sure that Galactica's got a few more years left, especially after the most VR update in 2016 (compared to the others it's rather recent). Rita's one that's more likely. With it not actually being considered a Secret Weapon, it may as well have a Secret Weapon replacing it. More evidence is that; Corkscrew ( not SW ) was replaced by Th13teen ( SW ). Rita wasn't a Weapon either, so it's probably more likely to be removed (much to the happiness of quite a few). Wbu? Edit: if any of you dare say that oblivion will be removed, prepare for your *CORRECTION*

Thirteen is good because it's a 130cm vs 140cm ride, think 'baby's first BIG coaster'. That said, the second I was tall enough I hit all of the big boys in one day and rarely made the trek back to thirteen afterwards. Never been on Wickerman, it just doesn't float my boat and feels out of place.
I rode Galactica right after the retheme when it still had headsets and wouldn't be surprised if that goes. Changing it from Air was stupid, and the theming didn't fit. Now it's just out of place, especially with Nemesis Sub-Terra open again. Right now, it feels like a mish-mash of theming across the park and I'd love to see it go back to the way it was around when Smiler had first opened. The flat rides in X-Sector made it feel less empty, but now you feel like you're surrounded by wasted space. At least the dead area between Rita and Thirteen has some small picnic tables and means us disabled guests can take a breather away from the crowds.

I think along with everyone else, cause of the nemesis retrack and sun terra, galactica will be removed and incorporated into the area
To be fair, although I wouldn't want to see it go. I personally think Runaway Mine Train is the next to go as no one really knows about it and I think the cost of maintenance outweighs the profit the coaster is earning.
Another point for galactica getting removed is it breaks down,and it takes a long time to get running again.

See for me the towers I’ve always been unsure who it’s audience is. In the south east you sort of have this progression of LEGO to Chesington to Thorpe
That’s the point of towers, it’s trying to do 3 parks jobs in the family thrills market however without hex they’re really lacking and considering Drayton manor is only down the road and they’re more family oriented they should really focus on what they do best, cough cough SW Program

Galactaca is probably the least scary 1.4m coaster at that park so what they should do is make it 1.2 and re theme it

I feel like towers should just get rid of Rita since it is actually such a big area and add an intimation blitz like taron as u said since taron isn’t even high so it shows that alton towers could build an amazing ride like that but maybe even better. Also, replace galactica with a vekoma flying coaster like Fly. At this point just build Phantasialand at alton towers so I don’t have to travel to Germany.
As a ten year plan I think this is the best idea.

Based on Nemesis being retracted now, Oblivion has 4 years left. Can't see anything else going before then.
I’m going to Alton Towers in the summer and my brother on the wants to go on is air/Galactica and might tell my mum and dad I’m a brother how worn out it looks
sadly itll be Rita, but it must be replaced by a mutli launch. If Oblivion gets retracked, it needs some extras added to bring it up to par with other Dive Machines. Smiler strobe effect agreed, it gives me a headache and had to cover my eyes. I dont like the idea of spinball going as its one of the FEW MIDDLE-off-of-the road coasters theyve got and with kids of 7 and 9 its needed, Too old for ceebeebies, too scared of the big rides = less trips in recent years! One idea for 420 ft coaster, import a californian red wood, problem solved. My wish a cross valley mack or intamin with lsms. I dont want air to go, it was my first "follow construction" coaster when I started CoasterForce in 2001.
They have recently just fixed rita, maybe a track exstention or re theme
I think they could tip up Rita and install a new next gen proper thrill coaster.
I think that they should do some cleanup on the Galatica station . They should cleanup the station because it is in a complete, tragic mess. I think that they should add more theming and (potentially) Virtual Reality to make it more immersive. I have visions of Galatica meeting the Nemesis Creature and Nemesis tries to destroy the Galactica riders.
Rita could get removed and have a Mandrill Mayhem launch and also a smoothening of the track.
Spinball Whizzer I can see getting re-themed because I mean - they spent so much money on the new computers it isn’t goimg to get removed anytime soon.

I'd like to see Rita get removed for a launch coaster that has some inversions, and lap-bar restraints.... Like icon/enso
