  • Should Countries Legalise Marijuana? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
The United States has proposed a historic law to reclassify marijuana as a low-risk drug. This won't make the drug legal but fewer people will be arrested for possessing it. This comes as some US states have legalised marijuana for recreational use. Which brings us the age-old debate on marijuana - should it be legalised? Is it good or bad for you? What does science say? Why are some countries legalising the drug? Are they genuinely following scientific advice or are they just riding the high of making money off it? Palki Sharma tells you.

Legal or illegal cannabis has always been around. In North America cannabis was legalized on state level but remained a crime moving it across state lines, but that did not hinder too many people just like when it was illegal. In the last 6 years cannabis went through what was the equivalent of tulipmania, prices skyrocketed, small town dealers became overnight miljonairs but when the dust was settled the bankruptcies soared. Memories of boom bust echo, now you can get cannabis at one tenth of the price as before legalization.

  • @NatureOfRealityRadio

Possessing and using cannabis was NEVER A CRIME TO BEGIN WITH. All rights are inherent at birth and every single human being on planet Earth, from the moment of birth, has the right to do ANYTHING they want with the one and only caveat being that you cannot cause harm and/or intend to cause harm to another person/property thru negligence and/or deliberate intent. And the fact that the collective authority of a group cannot exceed the authority of any individual in that group means that just cuz 51% of the people in a legislative body decide to make something illegal on the grounds that the reason they are making it illegal is "because someone doesn't like it" DOES NOT make that statute, code, or ordinance legally binding upon those who do not consent that it be binding upon them. The government doesn't have authority to regulate the private, non-commercial activity of the general public, PERIOD!

Legalizing it will make certain things better
    1. Better quality products that are actually controlled and accounted for.
    2. Taxes, will help with general development.
    3. Crime will go down, unwanted and petty arrests will reduce and help with prison and courts issues which countries like India already do.
The biggest issue is the taboo, usage of ganja was not uncommon till the western countries forced rest of us to ban it. It was pretty much left alone in India till 1980's. And the irony is, now western countries are the first ones to legalize and promote its use. The only issue with India is a good chunk of its population might end up misusing it. Given the mental state of people in this country with lack of jobs and good quality education, people will end up using it to curb their depression which will make them unfit.
Like Alcoholics, a pot head will try to search for pot in many ways. This population of pot heads includes jobless people to CEO's of companies. This is a leisurely drug that should either be consumed recreationally or under medical advise.
Hope Indian govt doea something good with this issue, because there is some real bad quality weed out here. 😂

Ideally, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products should be banned unless for medicinal purpose. Same thing should happen for hemp, should be highly regulated. Those stuffs are subject to abuse eversince so putting tight control would be reasonable.

I was also a stoner who strongly believe weed should be legal.
But now, i believe it is a drug harmful to our mind.
Yes, some people can handle it, it makes them creative and more product full, but this reasoning is limited only to some few percentage of people.
For most people, this is the welcome gate to more harmful drug journey.
But the reason why I think weed is harmful is because it makes majority of the people dumb and stupid. It causes them to be less active in their social life and also makes them more dependent on the substance.
Like every medicine and drug, it also have it's side effects.
So if weed should be legalize, coke should also be legalize.
Because cigarette, weed, alcohol and all kinds of recreational drugs have one thing in common, they are addictive and can seriously disorient our thoughts and mind if we are not careful with it.
This is just my thoughts so forgive me if I am wrong,
But I now believe that if we are facing problems in life, we should face it head on instead of depending on this substances.
Coz you only live once and i believe that if we want to live life to the fullest, we should accept our failures, struggles, situations, trauma, dis-satisfaction, unfairness to our life, injustice and so on.
Accept yourself and try to get out of bad situation with a sound mind.
    Sorry for my bad English.
    Let's win and overcome ourselves.
Let's be the master of our life.
