I love how much it actually looks like a corvette.
I know "I wish WEC's Hypercar class was more like GT1" is tired point, so instead I'll say I wish WEC's Hypercar was more like Gen3 DP.

I mean, that's fair. Would be interesting to see the flexibility/mix and match options between chassis and engine manufacturers and how that played out. Might loose out of some of the more interesting bodywork options but hard to say

The DPG3 was when i started to follow the grand am/rolex series. I absolutely adored the Corvette DP. I do miss the older riley that chip ginassi ran. I liked the sound of the BMW dinan powered rileys

The history was Jim France knew the importance the 'Big 3' played in building Daytona and couldn't get the factory Corvettes from ALMS, so he decided to build a 'Vette' proto that could be Grand-Am's.. I remember Roger Edmondson thought that this move would kill off the other DPs, bringing the series back to factory involvement; the thing that they wanted to get away from in the first place. I remember going to the 'Roar' that year, to see the debit of this car....it was indeed, a beautiful, creation. In a couple of short years, most the DPs were Corvette; Roger was right. Edmondson's concept of the 3 chassis makers, with multiple engine/trans packages provided a very competitive and affordable series. His vision was just like his approach to the bikes. Biker week at Daytona was a Japanese 'love fest' at the exclusion of the main stay of Daytona; Harley, Triumphs, Ducatis, etc. So he invented a class for twins, trips, which allowed these brands to come into the 'Colosseum' to compete. A stroke of genius! But back to the video at hand. This was wonderful, enjoyable, a extremely well done. I'm subscribed! Thanks.

Appreciate the additional context! I only started to get into racing a few years ago, so still gathering a lot of the interstitial tribal knowledge about how we got to where we are today. The Vette definitely made its mark, I'm glad that it led to GM's continued and more consistent participation in prototypes after the false start that was the early-00s Northstar program

I've never heard of this one, but interesting to see a mid-engine Corvette before the C8 made it cool

Yeah, I mean, the mid-engined Corvette has been theorized and occasionally concept-ed since the eighties or nineties but never made it to production. But there's a fair few of these kicking around the southern US if you ever have the chance to come over for a historic race. Historic Daytona 24 Hours is always the first weekend of November, and Sebring Pistons and Props is always the first weekend of December.

Why on earth would you even compare a Coyote with a C8.
One of those two is clearly shaped like a modern GT3 car. The other one is shaped like a prototype.

Not just a mid-engined Vette, GM made a mid-engine Vette with a flat crankshaft

If you've ever had the pleasure of seeing them in person, it's even more of a feeling than it is a seeing or hearing - gotta love big V8s

I remember seeing a random race in 2014 that I can't remember if it was Road Atlanta or Road America. This was the time when I didn't really followed any other motorsport that wasn't F1 and a bit of WEC just because I've always liked LMP1 cars. But anyways, I remember seeing the Corvette DP and I instantly fell in love with it deeply, and while it didn't made me follow IMSA immediately, it was thanks to it that I got interested in starting to follow it in 2017 when DPi got introduced.

Yeah, it's a bit of a hard thing to fall in love with at first sight - I found out about it from one of the Audi Truth In 24 documentaries and was in college only about an hour and a half away from Sebring, so figured I may as well go check it out. Of course, it was the year after the ALMS dissolved, but...

@@lenslr Living in Mexico, it's pretty much impossible to go to an IMSA race unless I specifically plan the trip, but I have all my plans on going to the Rolex 24, not in 2024, but definitely 2025
