BLOWN AWAY BY THE THRIFTING! | RESELLER SHOP WITH ME | VINTAGE

- FIND THRIFT SHOP DEALS | VINTAGE RESELLING | GOODWILL VS INDEPENDENTS
The December tornadoes only temporarily foiled my plans to shop and film the thrift stores of Bowling Green! After hearing that some of those shops were hit, we wanted to go shop and support them, and see whether any good deals blew in over the three month hiatus.
Our first stop is the south end, home of the town's best Goodwill to find vintage. We almost instantly find our first bargain,an auspicious start in a shop we often pass by in favor of the more fertile independent thrifts and consignment stores!
Next , we see the damage inflicted on a large strip mall, where we hope the two independent thrift shops have managed to reopen! There behind boarded windows is Gramma's Attic, a large combination thrift and consignment shop with good prices on true antique furniture, vintage clothing, lots of collectible housewares and even a fun and funky hat like you probably have never seen! Next door, we comb St. Theresa's, a 100% thrift store where a beautifully decorated Westmoreland piece and a surprisingly old Franciscan China bowl are near misses.
After my dental appointment, it's on to Consignment World, another new stop for me in what's becoming a thrift mecca to which I will return! This store has a lot of antiques, vintage and old furniture, from cheap deals on a 1970s working hi-fi stereo console and an 1890s hall tree to stately prints, fun wall pockets, Victorian English china and 1960s glass, with even a 1940s motorcycle gas tank to make it more interesting! We also talk about how to tell newer Chinese import furniture from old, meet a sleepy dog and show a "Victoria" pitcher that's far from Victorian.
We leave a long day of thrifting happy to see the revival of some hard-working thrift stores after their terrible debacles, with some bargains in the car to boot!
Here's a few of the items we gather and see along the way:
Primitive 1890s corner cupboard, oxen yokes, Minion plush, Noritake casserole, 1970s candle sconces, Hull Pottery pitcher, Pendleton coats, buttonholer, Pfaltzgraff Yorktowne deviled egg server, ceramic shoes, French parquetry dining table, English wardrobe, majolica pitcher, 1960s luggage, 1910s music cabinet, 1880s candle stand dressers, Victorian oak washstands, 1950s fumigated oak dresser set, McCoy planter and cookie jars, dome top trunk, TV Guide, vintage Scottish bagpiper shag rug, 1930s mini loom, Sessions art nouveau mantel clock, German 1890s wall clock, Snow White Disney portable record player, Schmid Hummels, Syroco black Americana thermometer, Field-Limoges plates, hen on nest, circa 1900 oak secretary desk, Adams Portia Shakespeare plate, Hull Pottery pink matte floral vase, antique cameo, vintage fishing lures, Brittains lead soldiers, Salem art deco dinnerware set, 1984 World's Fair mug, Canton Victorian English serving bowl, Haeger bird figurine, sock darner, cast iron teapots, 1970s big-eyed children prints, 1970s salon hair dryer chair, early 1900s school desks, 1960s grand opening sign, Mexican Saltillo throw, resin grapes, Pyrex mushroom bowls, Schwinn bike, King's Crown goblets, oil cans, etc.

The fumed oak furniture would do well here in So.Cal. By the way, describing those prints as run of the mill was incredibly generous of you.
In college, I made money by sewing for people in my dorm. I sewed for a girl whose mother worked at a Pendleton factory. They bought mill ends by the pound, and I sewed lots of jackets and stuff. She also let me have a lot of pieces that she didn’t want. To this day, I love Pendleton! Sadly, the factory and the outlet store have moved
That must have been interesting! I hope you kept something for yourself. American production is not like it was back then
Wow, that is an amazing story! On top of this video! Nice! 🌿🌹💕
@@TheAntiqueNomad 10:57 I HAVE THAT McCOY WISHING WELL WITH THE CHAIN
You are not only a wealth of info…you are so much fun. Thank you. This was fantastic.
Thank you so much! Please keep commenting and tell your friends
George, out of all the great reseller channels I follow you provide the most useful info for me to spot great vintage finds! Thanks for providing great content.
I'm so glad to be able to do that for you!
Hi George, hard working people are survivors and it's good to see Kentucky coming back
after all the destruction. I am glad you got the hat; also the Pendelton coat looked good on you even if it was a woman's. See you next time.
Well thank you! The 70s cuts are similar between men and women, I think that's the era on that piece.
WoW, so many pretty things, especially the Secretary!! I would have gotten the large rectangular desk (I have a lot of papers!!) I love what You said, "It's not something I really do, but somebody should!" So true!! I really like Your Helper showing The Buttonholer with such finesse!!🤓 And, with the boy and girl prints, I agree, "What does she want, he's trying to be sweet to her, geewhiz."😅 I could have spent half a day in that consignment shop, WoW!! Thanks for taking us along, You are always such fun to shop with.
👋🙂
I am so glad you enjoyed so much of what I did about this day! Thank you for coming along and hope to see you in chat and comments
I have a jug similar to the $5 dollar one that was my grandmother’s As a child I remember her bringing it out specifically to signify the start of spring as she would use it for the first daffodils, something I continue to do - and back it goes in the cupboard once the daffodils have finished to preserve its magic
Awww that is such a sweet family tradition
Green green green, bring back the green! Tfs
Every video of yours is a history lesson. Thank you so much!
My pleasure! I try to make it interesting by illustrating through objects so it feels more real
14:35 Big Daddy Roth? Is there ANYTHING you don't know George?!!! 😂
Why yes, there is! I actually misidentified a McCoy plate as Pfaltzgraff in this video. We all have more to learn!
@@TheAntiqueNomad Lol yeah but I forgive it because even a genius gets in a hurry sometimes! You are so smart and have a gift of a great memory. It's so fun to watch!
WOW just love your Video!!! Looking Good in the Coat lol. Love ALL the Information. A very Informative and interesting video. Thumbs up!!! Crazy Lamp Lady turned me on to your site. Love it! Following and subscribed!!! God Bless
You too! Thanks to Jocelyn, I'm glad to be meeting new people in this cool antique and vintage community. Thanks for subscribing and I'll see you in comments and chat!
Scott, lots of cool old memories.
You sure can make me smile. Love watching you shop. When I see things I had or still have I feel I have a fortune. Most I paid hardly anything now to find a buyer! If you are ever in Northwest Pennsylvania buy me out. 😀
11:19 I LOVE your friend and he's very good at helping you 💙
He sure is!
As a knitter I love that sock blocker. It was probably a good deal for someone to buy for themselves.
Exacfly! This is a great sock blocker used to shape socks after washing. The holes allow for more air flow and quicker drying, These are used more than you'd think now that knitting has made a resurgence!
A few of you sewing buffs helped me learn more about these!
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
Playing catch up. Good to see businesses open and you found a few things.
One of the top ten hats worn by you. Hats are truly made for your head 😊
Lol I like that one
Awww. I went to Western and my daughter is going there for a summer camp. I’ll have to check these out when I’m there. PS. I’m the dork that met you at watermark Toyota. Thanks for what you do!
Always appreciate when you show the jewelry! Thanks for doing what you do!
I try to point it out if I see something interesting!
love your input
Always enjoy.
Thanks! Me too.
George - I found one of those hats in our local Value Village, and thanks to you and Jocelyn I knew what it was!
Totally agree on the blue geese
Cute wall pockets. My Grandma had some that I am trying to match to other pieces.
Ivy's grammS Attic!
Another cool hat. Love Pendleton. Great furniture at the consignment store.
thanks for the Georgia video
Welcome back, George from sunny FL. Hope sales were good! I, like another commenter mentioned, have been to the GWs in Bowling Green, but not those thrift & consignment stores. Another place i like to go while in BG is the Restore, which is run by Habitat for Humanity. It's not far from Western. The variety you showed us & told about many items, even tho you weren't interested in buying, was invaluable! Thanks, again, for the antiqucation!
I hope the others get to stay, that building really took a hit. The Consignment Shop is in a stable place though. I haven't been to Habitat, I understand they're branching into more small goods so I'm sure I will
Great video. The wall pockets were fun.
And somebody’s kids were testing the acoustics!
Thank you! Great video
You are welcome! I sure have fun doing these. Please come visit and comment again!
Good evening George and the comment section
Hello! Glad to see you
Thanks for taking us along!
You bet!
Thanks
:) just seen at the end recommened videos you playlisted everything, Thank you wish more channels would then we could like your title suggest binge watch everything.
heres some watch hours for you over the next few days. your the only one giving actual prices and not bs'ing people
Thank you so much! I want people to see what really takes place in the market, not "I can (maybe) get $xxx"!
Thank you for your time George!
My pleasure!
When you mentioned the 2000s ceramics having that felt design on the bottom, it is from pushing the ceramic slab of clay through a roller to flatten it! It has a thick cloth on it, and it would make that imprint. At least the one I used to use made that same exact imprint. Its used to create an even thin piece of ceramic, just like the funky looking mermaid piece.
Thanks for the info! It makes perfect sense.
Love the hat, what fun!
Fantastic Information George. People really seem to be having a really growing interest in Vintage and Antiques. Every time I am in my Vendor Mall I hear them talking to someone looking for Booth Space. Glad I was able to find space to move when the other mall closed down. Lots of Love and Kindness.
Thank you! I am glad to see the interest growing with a new group of collectors
Darling Snow White record player ❤️
I always see the Mickey Mouse version, not Snow White!
Have you ever met Scott from OLD CUROSITY SHOP.
STILL PRAYING FOR THE CITIZENS OF THOSE CITIES THAT GOT HIT BY THAT TORNADO

Great shop along!
Xeno is a good sport about being a model!
Yes, when the mood is right lol
Loved it
Enjoyed your adventures! Interesting finds and narrative!
Thank you kindly!
Enjoy your info,very informative 👍
Love looking around at thrift items with you. I am no longer an Ebay seller, but I was for many years. I found my store evolved over the years and came to the conclusion that I would sell almost anything that would turn a good profit. Nice wool coat. I would have snapped that up.
I think you’re smart, I limit myself to vintage usually but there’s plenty of that too if you look
@@TheAntiqueNomad Maybe I "was" smart. lol I am retired now and just watch the waves roll in.
Very interesting thrifting trip today. 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed!
Fun video...and it's good to see "The Price Is Right," model Xeno with you too!!! Lol!
Yes lol
Oh, so that was Xeno!! This is my first spotting of him and fist time to put face to name.👋🙂
Always enjoy watching and learning and absolutely love the sheet music cabinet!🥰
I really like that form! Small is good too.
Except for the paint!!👋🙂
Good evening, George! I liked that English wardrobe and the French table. I have one of the Victorian candlestand dressers...out in the garage. No place to put it in the house. Loved the aisle with the Eastlake dresser and washstands. I liked the toy tractor next to the McCoy wishing well. I actually liked that bagpiper shag carpet. I would've bought the Session clock. I have several keys lying about, too. The German wall clock was a nice one, too. I have a thing for old, striking clocks. Never seen a hat like that! I like that oak secretary desk. My aunt has one of the Jim Beam "Penny" poodle decanters. Love the lead soldiers. I have a complete set of "The Rose" lead chess pieces, still in the original box, from England. I hate when people paint old furniture. Arrgghhh...I wish I still had my cast iron kettle! I sold it when I moved here and have regretted it ever since. That German child's dish would've tempted me...kind of liked that. The hall tree was really nice, and the slimmer profile would be easier to situate than some of the ones with the seats on them. Those places would be fun to browse...never know what you might come across in them. Thanks for the take-along!!!!!
I should have bought the Session clock! I usually don't feature so much furniture, but there were good deals on true antique pieces and I thought they deserved attention. Did you make a big move? Cast iron is a hard collector to transport. I did really like the hall tree and might go back for it. Thank you for coming along, it's fun to show some of the places like this dealers go to source!
@@TheAntiqueNomad I don't even have anywhere to put another clock, but I would've had to have got that Sessions one. The pieces of furniture were well worth showcasing! After my dad died, I moved here with mom to help take care of her. I had a 5000 sq. ft. house...packed with antiques. Her house is about half that size, and we had to combine the two. All of us have collected antiques as long as I've been alive, so there was a lot that had to be sacrificed, by mom and myself. She sold some things I wish were still here, too. That hall tree would definitely be worth getting. The size and its slimmer profile would make it appealing to anyone that has a limited space. It's really fun to take these tour with you!!! I can't leave Mother for long periods of time, so these premiers keep me "in the loop".
New subscriber to your channel. Truly enjoy all of your videos. It looks like a cat's cradle in the hands of the "Lil Pete" doll. We played the string game a lot as children.
I was terrible at that game! I'm so glad you are part of our fun antique and vintage community, please keep commenting and tell your friends!
Really liked the string game, but could just get so far - Remember "Jacob's Ladder?" I can still do that one and "The Broom." 👋🙂
Great video George!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi George - Really enjoyed watching you. Feel I will buy better on my next Goodwill visit. Thanks
Great! I hope my experience can help inform others
Loved that drop front desk - we would call it a bureau
Enjoyed this video - I always learn something from you !
I'm so glad! I like that piece as well
Hello. Hope you enjoy Bowling Green, I've lived here my whole life. I enjoy what you find and like the information you give on the makers of the items.
Thank you! I like to share what I know. I do like Bowling Green and it's nice to go somewhere in this region that has good thrift and consignment shops (and a couple of antique malls too)
@@TheAntiqueNomad I bought the MCCoy today and will give it a good home. I'm new to reselling, and look forward to more of your videos.
The Wishing Well.
More than once I've bought dresses or jackets for the attached jewelry and redonated the clothing! Pendelton stuff is nice; I alas am allergic to wool.
I can't claim allergies, I know they're stuff is great and why people like it! I'm not good with wool though, too scratchy for me unless it's merino
"Look at those mushrooms on that contact paper" bet you haven't said that often. ;)
Oh, maybe a lot more 20 years ago than now!
Thank you George! Have a great evening!

They could use our support!
Darn! I missed the premiere, my phone didn’t remind me 😞 great video! I actually have a vintage Pendleton Pea Coat it is beautiful and in impeccable condition! It is a green plaid color. I wish I could go shopping with you someday and pick your brain. Hopefully you can make it to Southern New Jersey someday 😉
I really want to get there! I have family in Delaware so it's on the list.
@@TheAntiqueNomad that would be sooooo FUN!!!! I could tip you off to a few hidden gems to find treasures 😉
I like it when u thrift Put us por folks in the run
I want everyone to be able to have fun with this!
Time for revisit to Bowling Green Consignment World ??? Curious if those 20 dollar encyclopedias are still sitting there 🤦🤔 I'd inherited a set in 2003. When you have to move them from one apt to another and another it's great to be able to Let Them Go !! The bookstore I donated them to burned year or so later ! I've gone thru vhs, cassettes, photos and im Abt to dig into the books!! I have my first one here. Warman antique guide. With so much online books don't get touched at all. Had those encyclopedia 13 yr !!!
We had the sock dryers
I used to have a Pendleton pea coat (it was awesome) and I still have my Schwinn Varsity 10 speed which I used to ride to my now-husband’s house 40 years ago! I hope the dentist didn’t leave you feeling down in the mouth.
lol no
😅
Always looking for vintage records when I thrift. One day I'll find a mint Archies Sugar Sugar album.
What about the small cardboard records (78's - small hole, I believe) that had to be cut out from the box of cereal they were on? One was "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archie's!! (I had that song come up on my 60's songlist from yt yesterday.) 👋🙂
My friend told me about the cereal box record. She has one. Played it over and over back in day.
@@rachelfruhwirth3793 So did I!! I would drive my mom crazy playing records over and over to try and learn the words!! I was a strange kid (still am!!) 👋😂
I love that town!!
Yes, it has its merits and is thriving
14:50 The stuff in the boxes...whatever. If my friend Dennis saw the boxes he'd want them for the stickers. 22:43 To get that brown out, soak in beauty supply-grade hydrogen peroxide. It does work, but it's not cheap; do it on Grandma's dishes and not things for resale.
Good info! Sounds like it's something to do for things you're keeping for yourself
Thank you for the pointer on ironstone. I looked and mine is a repro, which I wondered about, but it was a mortar and pestle and I'm a sucker for those. I paid $25 so it wasn't too bad.
That's a perfectly fine price, they didn't try to charge you antique prices
That wooden “foot” is a sock blocker - not for darning. We sock knitters use them all the time for blocking the completed socks. It makes them look nice before we sell them.
I'm glad to know that! A seamstress in the chat said the same thing and that you need a pair of them. I'm glad to know the difference
I was going to say the same thing. I’m knitting socks right now. Knitters show up in the darnedest places! 😀
@@darnyarner3782 And can knit at the speed of summer lightning!! Really like Your "Handle." 👋🙂
My middle daughter lives in Bowling Green KY!
Oh cool! It's a nice town. I hope you're enjoying your new town
George I have a bout 3,000 vintage and antique fishing lures!
Wow! What a great collection. I know some of the names, but I'd love to know what you do about it
Still loving that blanket. 🌈 Did you say the rainbow / bright color ones are usually from the 60s
Usually 1960s/70s
❤️❤️❤️
I got so sick of cutsie geese with “Welcome Friends” on whatever it was in the late 80s early 90s. I was glad to see the stuff go. I really don’t think I’ll be picking up ANY of that to resell now. It is outside of my niche…but for those for whom it isn’t…go for it. I still think it’s just too “ugh.”
Love that sheet music chest.
💖
15:52 I HAVE A SCHMID MICKEY MOUSE COWBOY MUSIC BOX
Hey Antique Nomad you mentioned a cleaner when you picked up the green Franciscan bowl was it Mothers Mag Wheel? Always looking for cleaners to help remove utensil marks. Thanks for all your great content and knowledge such a huge help?
Never-Dull, Mother's Mag Wheel Polish or any similar wadding cloth is the best place to start. That bowl was very heavily marked, that one would've been a real job!
😁👍
I love love love your thrifting videos!!!
Thank you! I'll work on more
GenX has showed up:)
Spending my money on original art, fossils, and art glass
Yep
nice
Thanks
My grandmother had a blanket chest that PA Dutch. Black with red painting. My Mother painted in the 80 and every time I think about her doing that it makes me want to cry. Is there any way that blue oil pant could come off and the original paint survived? Or has she ruined it forever?
It's hard to say, oil paint is especially difficult to remove sometimes. I would contact a paint store, a furniture restorer and a museum with that question, compare answers and then decide what to do.
The tan and blue plates you ID'ed as Pfaltzgraff @ 20:37 & 23:12 are McCoy, not Pfaltzgraff
You are right! It goes to show that one should not assume to just know because it looks like what you've seen before. I didn't realize that McCoy did a similar buff body with a blue stamped pattern like that, I will have to remember to look at things to be certain! Thank you for the correction
Hello George, I know your a very busy man but if you have about an hour to spare some time I would like to pick your brain about Mt. St. Helens ash art of all kinds. I am working on writing a book about it and would love your input since you yourself have been published. I will gladly pay for your time if your willing. Thank you, Marcella The Purple Peacock 73 from Washington State.
Hi there! I'll be in Washington towards the end of April and would love to contribute. I knew the patent holder of Mt. St. Helens glass and if you remind me in a few weeks, I can take pictures of a few family pieces in Florida and supply them for you.
@@TheAntiqueNomad that would be amazing. I have a few pieces myself and have taken pics of pieces my friends have. I also have a pair of Helenite earrings my boyfriend gave me for valentines day. Cant wait! So looking forward to meeting again! Be well my friend!
I actually just bought a couple pieces and am wanting to learn more too!
How Cool!!
I was living in the Tri Cities, WA when Mt.St.Helens arupted. The wind blew a lot of the ash our way, covering our cars, etc. There were drifts of it that looked like snow. I was thinking at the time someone could make some money if they could figure out what to do with it. I laughed at the little bottles of ash they sold to tourists when I could scoop the stuff up by the bucket full if I had wanted...maybe I could have made some money if I was a little smarter! 😅
What a fun day! What did you say to use to clean the scratches in the in the green Franciscan bowl? Mother’s polish, but which one?
The ‘84 World’s Fair was a political & economic fiasco, but combined with the historic tax credits, the fair played an important role in the revitalization of the NOLA warehouse district. So it wasn’t all bad. Lol.
Mother's Mag Wheel Polish or Never Dull wadding cloths often work. I didn't realize the NOLA warehouse district was the location!
@@TheAntiqueNomad a lot of the fair was on the riverfront in the building that is now the Riverwalk (outlet mall). But the warehouse district housed portions of the fair. The building where the Vatican exhibit was remains. The monorail terminated in the Cotton Mill - the beer garden - now apartments. Properties were owned by a hand full of owners, of corse. Today there is scant trace of the blight that once was “skid row.”
Jocelyn has been doing really well with the lucite grapes. She sold a bunch of grapes and 2 matching candles for $495 in February.
I just missed the live by 1 minute. 😞Maybe next time. I love that you are supporting these businesses. I love the hunt, regardless of where the treasures may be found. Sometimes we just have to look a bit harder at places like these. Fun!!
Yes and it’s worth it! Thank you for coming along with me
Why do they Crack. Sorry but I don't buy and sell and obviously have no idea. Just an armchair traveler by trade. But love to journey with you.
I'm sorry, please let me know which piece you mean and I'll be glad to tell you more!
✌🏻💚
I've been saying the same thing about the "blue geese". I see them everywhere here in Texas. lol 23:00 that screaming kid is getting on my damn nerves!
Mine too, I kept moving away from them and they seemed to be following me! I agree about the blue geese
@@TheAntiqueNomad LOL. I've been in that same situation. Usually so loud it really doesn't matter how far away you are from them being under the same roof.
If I'm correct, that was a "Special Folk" (my term - I don't like others used) and he/she really can't help the sounds they are making. But, go by them in the store and give them a big Smile and Wave and they will Love It!!🙂
My god, that screaming kid. 🙉
Those kids in St. Theresa’s though.
Yes, I recall being that age and watching other kids scream at thrift stores. My parents would NEVER have allowed that
What are those paper hats called? Do you know who makes them or when they were made? They are so cool! I want to buy one.
I don't know what they're called, but check my ebay this weekend and you'll likely see one on there!
not to darn, but to stretch while drying
I learned something!~ Another viewer said you need two because of that, which makes sense
@@TheAntiqueNomad But if the material is porous it will rot in time. And someone else said it was for "blocking" knitted socks?
