Liberia is a beautiful West African Nation with a population of 5 million people. In this video, we share Liberia a West African nation that has a lot of rich African history. We look at the country's History, Culture, People and the Economy.
Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic (CAR), Chad, Comoros, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leon, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
HISTORY
In the beginning of the 19th century the tide started to rise in favour of the abolition of slavery, and the Grain Coast was suggested as a suitable home for freed American slaves. In 1818 two U.S. government agents and two officers of the American Colonization Society (founded 1816) visited the Grain Coast. The first American freed slaves, led by members of the society, landed in 1822 on Providence Island at the mouth of the Mesurado River. They were followed shortly by Jehudi Ashmun, a white American, who became the real founder of Liberia. In 1839 Thomas Buchanan was appointed the first governor. On his death in 1841 he was succeeded by Joseph Jenkins Roberts, the colony’s first Black governor, who was born free in Virginia in 1809; Roberts enlarged the boundaries of the territory and improved economic conditions.
CULTURE
Traditional and Western lifestyles coexist; however, traditional values, customs, and norms influence the Western type considerably. In cities both Western and African music and dancing styles are in vogue, but in rural areas traditional rhythms are favoured. Schools instruct students in the legends, traditions, songs, arts, and crafts of African culture, and the government promotes African culture through such agencies as the National Museum in Monrovia, the Tubman Center for African Culture in Robertsport, and the National Cultural Center in Kendeja, which exhibits architecture of the 16 ethnic groups of Liberia.
PEOPLE
The people of Liberia are classified into three major groups: the indigenous people, who are in the majority and who migrated from the western Sudan in the late Middle Ages; Black immigrants from the United States (known historically as Americo-Liberians) and the West Indies; and other Black immigrants from neighbouring western African states who came during the anti-slave-trade campaign and European colonial rule. The Americo-Liberians are most closely associated with founding Liberia. Most of them migrated to Liberia between 1820 and 1865. Liberia’s indigenous ethnic groups may be classified into three linguistic groups, all belonging to the Niger-Congo language family: the Mande, Kwa, and Mel.
ECONOMY
The country heavily depends on exports. Among these are Rubber, Timber, Minerals. The country's citizens depend on subsistence farming

I'm a Liberian, from Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. In as much as I love this video, what offended me the most was the title " Africa's Slave Paradise", wrong choice of words. There's a reason why we refer to our African American Brothers and sisters that settled in Liberia as Settlers, not slaves. Also, we don't have 20 tribes in Liberia, we have 16 ethnic groups which make up the indigenous population, go back and do some research on that. You may also want to add to your video that out of Liberia's 25 presidents, 20 were African Americans and 5 including current president we are indigenous. Thanks for promoting Liberia, this once Glorious Land of Liberty, the Lone Star 🌟 of Africa will rise again.
Thanks for this correction Marck.
We will definitely do better next time
@@TheAfricanScript BUT CHANGE THE TITLE THEN!! IT’S OFFENSIVE!! WE ARE NOT AMERICAN STOP TRYING TO PIN AS AS THAT!! 16 indigenous tribes. SMH
Thanks bro!
so that's where the source of Liberia's problems come from, America....
@@TheAfricanScript taking responsibility for errors is not just by acknowledging-it also means taking steps to make the correction which shows you are ethical and respectful of history!

As a native Marylander, USA I've always had a thing for Liberia, knowing about the Maryland Colonization Society, and how The Republic of Maryland in Africa held out before being annexed into Liberia. im super fascinated that there is a county in Liberia, named Maryland. I wonder if any of my ancestors emigrated there idk, but fascinating to say the least. p.s I also read a book about President Sirleaf. Kudos Liberia 🇱🇷 🤌🏾

Good to see information about Liberia. It is the homeland of my son-in-law. It would be good to have an expansion of information: what is the health, education status of the country? How is the physical infrastructure, export trade, local trade, culture etc.?

having viewed the video, I think this is the time for unity follow Liberia
You're calling freed people "slaves". Please correct your language and stop referring to Black people as "slaves" - they were HUMAN BEINGS who were ENSLAVED. There's a difference. We have to be careful of our language and how we refer to ourselves.
Thank u for sharing this watching from Ethiopia

Liberia for Life
I like how they "returned back."
They were not slaves after Emancipation. If you guys on the continent cannot understand how insulting it is to refer to emancipated Africans as slaves then you are trapped in a very ignorant time warp

Generally liberian people are beautiful like diamond 💎🥰❤️ inside and outside. While we should avoid saying or doing anything hateful, we need to go further. The cycle of hatred begins in the mind and heart. Therefore, we must root out any hint of hatred from our thoughts and feelings
would love to visit.
Excuse me mr video maker, the thumbnail of this video is not Liberia. I live in Liberia, can you please tell me where you got that photo from? There is nowhere in Liberia that look like that. STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION ON CZcams
