      Mashed I am a big fan of Aldi's and we shop at the Aldi's Waxahachie, Texas. Here in Midlothian, they struck down the chance to get an Aldi's... Maybe one day we will get an Aldi's . But until we do we will be going out of town to Aldi's to do our shopping.

      We have had Aldi for about 2 years. I shop at about 3 stores on a regular basis, but I am trying to shop there more. But I can only shop early morning; other times it's just too crowded! I can appreciate having fewer employees, but if there are more than 3 people in line, I would like to see them open another checkout line. The cashiers are very fast, so that helps!

    I shop at Aldi in the Netherlands. All our grocery stores have the same cart system. You have to put in money to shop with a cart. And I don't think I would appreciate someone else packing my groceries for me. There is nothing wrong with me so I can do it myself.

    You can say what you want about Aldi "low staffing" but those very efficient people doing the checking can get you/me through a line faster than I can unload my cart! I have never run across an unpleasant cashier or a slow one! I can come out of there with twice as much food as I can from any other food store! It is clean, easy to find items, and last month was the first time ever they were out of an item I wanted! I didn't ask for the item, I was in a rush! I can shop at Aldi & get enough food for the month, any other store, maybe two weeks of food (if I'm lucky) and costing more money, stand in line waiting for my turn to check-out. Twenty check- out lanes and 3 open. Their store is clean & they remodel often! If you have shopped Aldi you know the truth, if you haven't you may believe trash talk. When I didn't have a quarter for a cart (no change on me) the cashier GAVE me a cart to use!!!! If you think their cashiers are stressed you have never worked at Wal*Mart. That was stress!!!! And some of the bosses at Wal*Mart make their people that work under them do their work!!! The cashiers also earn $11. plus change an hour which isn't bad considering McDonalds, Wal*Mart etc.. You/me get a lot of bang for my/your buck. A quarter a cart is a good deal....no rampant carts crashing into beautiful cars there!!! Aldi's is one of the better things going on in this world!!!! Ya, someone with money is NOT going to like it, but for us (lower middle & I have seen many above) appreciate what Aldi can do for us.

    The only 'issue' I have with Aldis is they will stock an item long enough to get you hooked on it then pull it from stores and when you ask about it they tell you it was 'seasonal' LOL!!

    • @Tiger351
      @Tiger351 Před 7 lety

      Here in Australia they do the seasonal item thing and generally change the special items every week or 2 (except for Christmas items which they have for up to 2 months).
      As mentioned they usually bring back the same seasonal stuff same time next year, although some foreign food themed stuff (Asian, Mexican etc) is on the shelf every 6 months rather than every 12 months.

    • @tubedude54

      I understand the concept of seasonal items and have no problem with those... it's items they have had for YEARS and then they stop them... like the foot long beef sticks they just recently phased out in US stores! Those things sold like hot cakes (think my wife bought at least half the supply LOL!). We were actually going to 3 different Aldi's looking for them when she found out they were discontinuing them!! Luckily she found a substitute at the local Save-a-lot!!

    • @dozog
      @dozog Před 7 lety +3

      There is a very good reason for your observation (and actually many retailers have this )
      Aldi will use it's purchasing power to get a very low price from a supplier. The next round of contracts, Aldi (read any supermarket chain) will force the supplier into an even lower price or more favorable conditions.
      Until eventually the supplier cant accept the conditions or finds a better chain to do business with, or has to sacrifice on quality... Either way, Aldi won't stock your favorite snack anymore.

    • @Tiger351
      @Tiger351 Před 7 lety

      Dozo G True, the other supermarket chains here in Australia have now dropped their contract offers so low trying to compete with Aldi that Aldi now has large global brand items like Cadbury and Nestle (as well as others) on their shelves every few months.
      Even the DK press Lego books regularly appear during the Christmas toy sales at Aldi over here..

  • @6Fiona6_P_6
    @6Fiona6_P_6 Před 7 lety +54

    Don't know about Aldi in America but here in Australia, you can purchase your own reusable token to put into that coin slot to use Aldi's trolleys. Which I think is a great idea. 1 it means you don't have to carry money on you & 2 ( the coin slot thing) makes you responsible for returning the trolley to where it came from. Which people should be doing, no matter where you shop at. Trolleys shouldn't be littered all over the place( think about that next time you're doing your weekly shopping and the trolley is a bit wonky. It's wonky because someone misused or mishandled that trolley some time in the past) Also returning the trolley means the next shopper who comes along doesn't have to worry about finding a trolley to use( which is a scenario that has happened to all of us at least once in our shopping experience. And it always seems to happen at the most inconvenient of times doesn't it?)☮️

    So in Belgium i grew up with aldi. Honestly I don't know what you guys are used to in the US... Items still being in boxes on te+he shelves? So what.. If it makes the price cheaper I would gladly unpack the f ing box myself. A grocery shop is there to provide you with food, wether the food is is still displayed in a half box or not really does not make a difference. Paying a deposit for a shopping cart? This is literally the case in every shop in Belgium. We don't have people packing our groceries either.
    In a country where so many people barely have money to buy food, I think priorities are seriously shifted to the wrong place.

They obviously have no idea what 'overhead' is.They don't understand the power of advertising. Hell, many don't even know how to figure out price per ounce in their head, and god forbid they use that calculator on their 'smartphones'. Big business absolutely loves ignorant people. They make bigger profit margins off them all the time.

    Here in the UK, Aldi is well respected. I'm a power tool freak. Recently I purchased a Makita battery Combi Drill and Impact drill kit for about 180 pounds with 2 year warranty and 1500Ma/h. Went into Aldi and purchased a nifty battery operated drill with removable chuck and option for hexagonal drill driver 2000Ma/h and three years warranty for around thirty-five pounds. I use this Aldi Workzone tool in preference to the Makita. In fact the Workzone brand is proving to be popular with tradesmen here in the UK. They soon walk out of the shop. Sellers on EBAY are selling Workzone products as used goods for higher prices than Aldi sold as new! Cannot say anymore than that!

A decade long illness which has turned out to be terminal has wiped me out $$$, so this is truly good news. They are good to have as once you buy one, you can't spend it, meaning it 'should' always be in your wallet/purse when you needed it, unlike a euro or pound coin, which today is easy not to have on hand.

    Ok wait no. I work for Aldi and some of this is wrong. You used info about the European Aldi and extrapolated it to the US Aldi. Aldi US just won two employer awards, one from Forbes magazine, as one of the best employers in the country. We take surveys once a year about what we like and dislike about working there, and the company responds. For example, in response to the work-life balance thing, they tweaked our vacation and request-off policy to be much more generous (vacation rolls over year to year now instead of use it or lose it, for one example). Aldi Sud and Aldi US are similar but different enough that it is quite unfair to use European info to describe the US version.

    • @londoncalling8121
      @londoncalling8121 Před 7 lety +8

      Yeah, but it's all relative luvvie. Over here everyone gets loads more statuary paid holiday and shorter hours than you do in the US, so the fact Aldi is offering you holiday carry over is nothing to them.

      London Calling you're absolutely right. Labor standards and general empowerment of the labor force is crap over here. The fact is they could be more generous, but they operate within the system and expectations of the society Around them. Here, they can be among the best employers for simply doing a minimum, where in other places, it's the standard or even lower. We can be cynical that way. But the fact is, in the 5 years I have worked here, I have seen exponential growth and an honest effort on the part of the company to balance their employees' job satisfaction, staying ahead of the curve in the market, expanding, sustainability, efficiency....
      They are not a publicly traded company,so they can afford to invest in the company's stability and workforce quality, since they are not chasing quarterly profits and other such pitfalls of big business.

      Hi Margaret. Good points honey. A company who doesn't invest in its staff and pay heed to their careers is not following a clever business model, so Aldi is on the right track. Hope working conditions improve even further for you. I'm always shocked when I see the long hours / lack of holidays and perks that you guys endure over there. People slow down and start to lack motivation when they are worked too hard and not given incentives, so productivity suffers then anyway. Regards from the lazier side of the pond!

      I love my Aldi checkout ladies and manager! The ladies at the checkout are always in a hurry to complete transactions, but make a point to speak to me and talk to my little boy. The manager walks the store and is always keeping things straight. When I couldn't find a special buy the day it was released, he called in and found it at two other local stores without me asking. The employees are always super helpful. I'm glad you're treated well!

    Aldi are doing a great job in undercutting the big, established supermarkets/stores here in the UK and are very popular. They were slow to catch on and many people were a bit snobby about them and then realised their products were often much better than big name brands (like Kelloggs) and less costly. Their chocolate is FAR better than such as Cadbury which, sad to say, is completely spoilt since being taken over by US giant, Kraft, who are despised for promising to keep production here then later shipping it overseas.
    Putting a £1 coin (or similar-sized token) in a trolley and returning it to it's base is the norm here, as is packing your own groceries. We don't have a big service sector here as the US. It is a problem when they whizz them through faster than you can pack but I scoop all into the basket or trolley and pack on the nearby window ledges. Variety is a little restricted but they do a great range of non-food items which constantly change, re-appearing at various intervals so you grab 'em when you can.

      Yet I might be forgiven when I read the TOP answer here to this question -
      "They are two brothers. The Brothers Albrecht
      The one brother started out with the Aldi stores, in which his brother had a part, but the two brothers fell out with each other and thus his brother decided to start a competing company LIDL and apparently up untill today there is no love lost between the two"
      Might be a common misconception as they do operate in a very similar way. :-)

      Because I am aware that most users of YT channels I visit are mostly frequented by Americans so, as a matter of consideration and to avoid misunderstanding, I try to clarify where there are terminology differences.
      Supermarket/store covers both sides of the Pond. Shopping pertains to ALL goods, here we are discussing predominantly a `grocery' store, that also being a fairly common English term. You will have seen that sign over some shop fronts and supermarket counters I'm sure.
      I have not yet resorted to American spellings. I think you are splitting hairs.

    My wife used to work at an Aldi in OH and then transferred to an Aldi in MD and I couldn't wait for her to find another job. Sure, the pay is better than competing stores, but the amount of work she used to do compared to like Wal-mart, for example, is insane. I think in an 8 hour shift (which always ended up being 9-10 hours), she would usually take about a 10 minute break. They'd only have like 3-5 people running the entire store at any given time. She would do everything... unloading trucks, stocking shelves, smashing cardboard, cleaning the bathrooms and running checkouts. She would literally jog around the store sometimes. The place is a sweat shop and not worth the extra $2 per hour.

ALDI management hires people of different ethnic groups, and does a good job of choosing them. All of the employees that work at ALDI are VERY COURTEOUS and helpful. This is rare in many businesses and stores in particular. Too many people working in other stores have negative attitudes, don't know their merchandise, and don't care about helping or being helpful to customers. I haven't seen any negativity with the employees that work in this store.

    After early skepticism I have to admit that Aldi offers very good products and a great price. Don't mind the warehouse appearance of the stocking shelves as long as the store is clean and the merchandise is of good quality. Normally generic brands are avoided when shopping but Aldi generics are better than expected and in many cases as good as the name brand items. An interesting story too, great video.

      Yes I figured if it came from the earth than it’s better for you. I’m not big into processed foods at all. Love summer fruits and veggies! I know there was a petition going around demanding the FDA ban HFCS. Bottom line if consumers refuse to buy the products with the stuff it would force the manufactures to change. It’s just like when the gas prices went up, the food prices went up and never came back down. The sizes of things shrank too. Example ice cream. I just started making my own.

    I gotta say when I went into Aldi and shopped with my mother I used to say to her I think these people are Christians because every time I come here I have a good experience and I feel relaxed and customers help each other in that store i mean almost all of them. NO other stores do this for me usually I feel sick and stressed out and feel cut throat games are going on. I never feel that taken advantage of when I am there. It feels like they actually care. Also another HUGE THING IS nobody else feels stressed out either they all are relaxed and happy. HOW DO I KNOW? THEY LOOK IN YOUR EYES AND SAY THINGS LIKE DO YOU WANT TO GO IN FRONT OF ME IN LINE? OR TAKE YOUR TIME AND THEY MEAN IT.
    ALSO HUGE THING IS I was short money and broke I couldn't afford bags one day and out of nowhere the family in front of me bought way too many bags like 5 and gave them all to me! It was exactly what I needed 5 bags! ANOTHER TIME I WAS BROKE AGAIN( AS USUAL) SOME GUY (with his little boy) IN FRONT OF ME PAID THE PART OF THE BILL I COULDN'T AFFORD AND GAVE ME MONEY FOR MY POCKET!!! I think God touched his heart he was so nice and a good example for his son, He looked like a minister all dressed up with a long black coat (London fog or something). EVERYONE THERE SEEMS FRIENDLY EVEN CUSTOMERS.
    SOMETHING IS GOING ON THERE THAT IS VERY GOOD AND GOD WILL BLESS THIS STORE AND ALREADY HAS SINCE IT HAS BEEN OPENED SO LONG. There has got to be something they are doing different. Idk what but I have not ever had a bad experience in that store. Not once. They care about disabled people and elderly. Cashiers rush out of the back to open a line for a disabled person if the line is even slightly long. I remember when they first opened it was a bit hard for them to find good employees but when they did it went great! Smooth as can be. I don't go around making compliments for nothing but when it is due I give them. I passed this video to my mother she likes Aldi a lot it is her favorite store! Mine too!

      They have better quality products than many store that charge full prices, certainly AS good!
      Yes, I wish I could shop small locally owned shops instead of big chains like Wal-Mart too, but unfortunately small shops have to charge more & too often end up out of my price range.
      My contention, too, is that WM isn't any worse than K-Mart, Target or any of the others, people just focus more on their lesser traits....we see pics of people dressed in weird outfits, etc., supposedly at WM...what would be said about them if they they turned those "odd" people away from their doors?!?
      There's plenty more I could say on the subject, but just remember this, before you complain about which store you "have" to shop at....1 in 5 Americans go without enough food to eat, on a daily basis!!!

The workers there know me and know that I have a difficult time with heavier items, so I don't have to take them out of the basket, until I get to the car. (I ask other customers for help to get them into the basket and they too are very helpful, considerate and nice). I then bag my items into light weight proportions in my heavy-duty Aldi's bags. It's when I get home, that's when I have trouble.

    I am a trucker in the UK and i have delivered to the Aldi Distribution centre and when you back on a bay you go in the back and unload yourself, so they save a lot of money by not having unloading staff as well, i expect some of that gets passed down to the prices.

      I was an owner operator leased to a company in O'fallon missouri... I delivered to the Aldi stores from the warehouse. Couldn't wait to get the hell away from those cheap bastards..

    Paying a trolley deposit is standard practice in Europe. All stores do it. Particularly here in the UK and Ireland. Can't blame Aldi for that one 😉

      I love the quarter slot idea. It keeps people from denting your car.

      This is not correct for the UK. Aldi is the only supermarket I've ever used that requires a deposit. Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Morrisons etc do not. I use Aldi weekly, as savings on grocery are excellent with quality mostly as good as their higher priced competitors. There other product lines are pretty good too, I've found some good tool and DIY items over the years, which have a 3 year warranty! If you can handle some inconvenience in exchange for good savings then it's a no brainer.

      turboslag yip. Every supermarket except Aldi have abolished £1 deposits now in favour of electronic perimeters that lock the wheels when you try and leave the car park.

    That deposit for the cart is very common in Europe. Here in the Netherlands every single grossery store has you put in a coin to unlock the cart. It doesn't even have to be actual money. At most grossery stores you can get a key chain for FREE that has a coin on it that will fit.

    omg, the Trader Joe/Aldi truth shook me to the core, I literally looked like that guinea pig(?) meme you added. I wondered why I loved both so much, and then I remembered that my mum had mentioned that both were affiliated or something, but I didn't think much of it because she was vague. omg, shooketh.

    I have always loved Aldi. They have really good quality specialty items. The items may not always be there but when you catch them load up!

    Putting a deposit in for your cart is a normal thing in Europe. All the supermarkets do it over here it’s mainly because people who don’t have cars use them to drive their groceries from the store to their houses. I used to know some people who accumalated 4 or 5 of these carts in their garden and didn’t Bother bringing them back for a long time.
    Many stores prohibit people from taking the carts home nowadays. U have the Aldi but we have the Aldi and the Lidl wich are basicly the same thing in everything but name. I think the Lidl has more heart for it’s employers in general tho they also have more people working there so not just the bare minimum.
    Don’t think because it’s cheaper that the products are worse. The Lidl has accumalted best fruit and vegetables price of all the supermarkets 7 times in a row. And many of these price fighter products are not only cheaper but rate higher also compared to their more expensive counterparts.
    I would also rate their milk products very high and I can know cause I’m dutch.
    Happy shopping !
