  • Codex Leicester from Dicetree is a new version of Italian design group Acchitocca's 2006 game Leonardo da Vinci, with modifications from Dicetree's founder, Changhyun Baek. It's a bit more involved than the old one. Here's how to play!
    00:00 Intro
    00:20 Setup
    10:39 Big Picture
11:06 Assigning Projects to your Workshops
    14:14 Placing your Workers
    17:35 Examples of Evaluating Locations
    23:01 End of the Round
    23:49 Differences in Later Rounds
    25:20 Other Details
    29:59 End-Game Scoring
It seems a bit long, but only because I wanted to go into detail. The game is not that complicated, and has an easy flow once you understand it.
A free copy of the game was provided by Dicetree. Thanks!
I will cover the older version, Leonardo da Vinci, as well as my thoughts on the changes in Codex Leicester in a future "Why It's a Gem" video. A tutorial video was requested on BGG so I wanted to upload this instructional video sooner rather than later.
Board Gems highlights older board and card games that are still great games today, and deserve to not be forgotten!

Very nice editing. I am not into miniatures, but I love dual layered boards and chunky components.
Not sure if this one is for me, or if it will be released in Brazil, but I'll keep an eye on it.

    Hi Darryl
You know if there is any change with the old version? Its amazing that there is not much info on BGG.
i never paid much attention to this game because its on the "sale bin" in every shop. But seeing the video its doesn't feel bad just that its a Worker placement that does not invent anything. But it be might interesting to try

Yes, it’s quite changed over the old version, some major changes overtop the same core. I will do a video on Leonardo da Vinci at some point, just wanted to get this out there before taking a short break because it was requested on BGG. But short answer: LdV was one of the early worker placements so was breaking new ground in a way. A good game, but a bit long and had some unpleasant quirks, and of course the look would turn off a LOT of people nowadays. The new version is of course much nicer, and some of the unpleasant quirks removed, and also made a fair bit more involved. It’s a modern euro now.
